Dog sleeping on bed

Do you let your dog sleep in your bed? We've gone for not allowed on sofa to a 26kg on our bed. It wasn't intentional but now don't know how to break it. He's a very nervous rescue. It's now to the extent he waits for me to turn of livingroom light, fill my water then he walks up to bed like 'ok now we're off to bed'. Any harm in it? Can I stop it?

25kg Basset here, sleeping under the duvet between DH and I. We often spoon and I love having her in our bed - she's an utter, cuddly delight. I suspect gently snoring hounds could be used as a treatment for insomnia.....

We do. I feel happier that I know he's ok and he sleeps soundly the whole night long so I reckon he's happy. Having said that, I never judge anyone who doesn't want it as I can see that it could be non ideal.

Never! I love my dog but she has her own bed downstairs and is not allowed upstairs. Not just because I don't like dogs and their hairs on the bed but because I worry about what will happen to old arthritic joints when she's old and assumes she can run up and downstairs like she used to? I'd hate for her to injure herself.

I like dogs that should read, just not dog hairs Smile

The snoring and big signs are freakin adorable and comforting

I'm laid here with mine next to me, on her back, totally relaxed and snoring. DH still downstairs, he will nudge her over when he gets in but she'll push back and he'll be left hanging over the edge. He then gets back up at crack of dawn and dog and I snuggle back in together for few hours. (And we 'nap' together on the bed in the afternoon if we get the chance!)

No. I don’t sleep in my dogs bed and my dog doesn’t sleep in mine. Everyone is happy

I think it's a hound thing as they're pack animals aren't they?

My beagle sleeps in our bed and loves being snuggled up with one of us on the sofa too. I think it's partly comfort but partly because hounds normally live all together in kennels too.

No. I adore dogs, am totally a dog person but I dont allow them on our bed.

Firstly, dogs can smell sometimes and I like fresh clean sheets. Secondly, my dog has had accidents before and I dont fancy scrubbing animal diarrhoea or vomit out of my 400 count egyptian cotton bedding.
Thirdly, dogs are animals, they arent humans. They are perfectly happy sleeping in their own washable bed in the kitchen and its ok to have boundaries. People who treat dogs like babies actually harm them in my opinion and dont do them any favours.

I love our dog sleeping on our bed but I really wish he wouldn't get up in the night, come right up to my face, flap his ears just so you know he is awake and then collapse on top of me because he wants to be close. It's a bloody good job I love him Grin

I've been lucky in that when my dog has wanted to vomit he always gets off the bed and takes himself to a quiet corner of the room.

Oh yes, nothing better than doggy bed cuddles. My old man is 18 soon and would never cope alone anyway, he's blind, deaf and has dementia.

My dog is always under a duvet or blanket wherever possible, she wears pjs in the house and in winter has a hot water bottle in her bed.

She would love to sleep under the duvet snuggled up to me, she would sleep like a log and I wouldn't Grin

Her in her crate/bed in the corner of our room is a huge compromise on my part tbh. I couldn't face the training involved in getting her to no longer be terrified of being shut in her crate downstairs at least this way in between evicting her off my bed I was in my own bed and after 3 nights she stays in her crate willingly all night. As soon as I say "morning" I get bounced on and the duvet digging starts!

I have a large fluffy monster (think 40kg) who loves to get on the bed for a wee cuddle but then seems to get too hot after about 15 mins and gets off again to go to his own cool bed by the window or the landing. So I get the best of both worlds, snuggles to get sleepy but then space in the bed overnight.

I'd never deny a dog that needed the security of being near their human. They are our companions day AND night.

So glad it's not mine who does that Grin

He also walks in between us to back under the covers, and if I don't lift the duvet for him, he taps me on the head until I wake up!

Your dog sounds so adorable!

I don’t allow dogs on the bed but once when my DD was a baby I fell asleep on the bed with her and woke up with the dog snuggled into us (she has always loved babies!)
She hasn’t come into the bed before or since that day

I don't let my dogs upstairs. I have a safety gate. I have cats so they do attempt as I have cat food upstairs. My youngest dog is 25kg and is only 7 month old. My other Mal is fully grown. They shed and I don't want them in my bed. I do sleep with the cats on the bed though.

Ours gets on the bed when we go through and read/iPads etc but doesn't actually sleep there.
He would love to but the on/off/on again when he gets too hot through the night would definitely disturb us.
I would love to give it a test run but would be worried that he would hate returning to his own bed if it didn't work out.

We have two (soon to be three). The big boy would love to sleep on the bed but when he breathe, the whole bed shakes and he snores. He has a bed on the floor next to my partner. The minute my partner opens his eyes, the dog is up.
Our other dog is much smaller and actually sleeps well but he doesn't want to sleep with us, he sleeps in the hall on his bed.
No idea where number 3 will go he can sleep on our bed if he wants but not straight away. We can't put a gate on the stairs because of the other two so he'll have access to the whole house. I hope he toilet trains quickly!

Our puppy does but he's only 3.5kg! He sleeps on our feet. We originally said he wasn't even going to be allowed upstairs but after 3 horrible nights trying to crate train we caved in. Now he sleeps through all night.

Only downside is twice in 7 weeks he has woken up in the night being sick!!
