Roll up roll up... I'm a day late but here we are.

Latest update: Juiceypup is obsessed with DS's feet, who is now starting to get upset by it. He doesn't do it to anyone else, only him, and we don't know why. DS goes stock still as instructed but we have to prise his mouth open to get him off his toe. Has brought him to tears a few times.

We are booking for mid August but he's started pooping in the house - I think we've been slack at putting him outside and encouraging him!
Loving the teenage puppy love

We have a holiday cottage booked as well, all of the floors are tiled so if Link does have an accident it won’t leave stains/smells. Its in the forest of dean so lots of nice walks even on hot days.

He has his first day of doggy day care on Monday, he is just doing a half day to see how he gets on, hopefully he’ll be okay as ideally I’ll use doggy day care fairly regularly when hes a bit older.

muckandnettles · 17/07/2020 11:40

Oh hell, didn't think to check the flooring at the place we are going. Knowing my luck I'll spend all my time in the kitchen with Mucky while the rest of the family put their feet up with views of the river in a room with carpet.

OwlInAnOakTree · 17/07/2020 11:46

@Makemedoit, I didn't have a harness or anything on pup when we brought him home. It was just a 30 minute local drive. Although I think legally they're supposed to be restrained in some way, so don't follow my advice!

Gosh you're all so brave taking pups on holidays! I can feel my stress levels rising just thinking about it! Grin

PuppyBonBon · 17/07/2020 17:14

@SimonJT good choice, I LOVE that part of the country (and might be where BonBonPup is from!) Enjoy your holiday. The forest is amazing for dogs, there are also some lovely lakes and the River Wye. Try the Moody Cow near Ross for some good food if they're open too. Ross has some great shops to look at too.

PuppyBonBon · 17/07/2020 17:19

@muckandnettles BonBonPup got her free samples from fish4dogs (No purchase needed, just joined the puppy club) and is going nuts for the bits we've tried. She also loved the salmon mousse! I think I might stock up on tinned fish in spring water for her now.

muckandnettles · 17/07/2020 18:19

@PuppyBonBon so pleased she likes it. I've been very impressed by them and have ordered some more mousse for the Kongs. 50% off for your first order! I suppose it's very competitive in the dog food world, but that did seems good offer.

PuppyBonBon · 17/07/2020 18:32

I might stock up on fish skins then! 50% off those would make them a steal!!!

Coffeewithmyoxyg3n · 17/07/2020 19:56

We're home with dpup finally, was a very long drive and he was sick three times poor thing. Thankfully took a basket with a blanket and puppy pad to go by my feet as being on my lap made him more sick so he slept in there brilliantly with his lamb toy which is bigger than him almost the whole way.

He's now asleep on me and so lovely and cuddly, know it's going to get very hard soon so just enjoying the sleepy cuddles for the moment!

@Coffeewithmyoxyg3n well done and what a gorgeous pup!! Enjoy the first weekend with him!

OwlInAnOakTree · 17/07/2020 20:13

Gorgeous pup @Coffeewithmyoxyg3n. Here's a pic of OwlPup, looks a bit like yours. 😊

I'm not enjoying OwlPup's behaviour today. Probably not enough sleep, so I've put him to bed already and not a peep out of him after he finished his bedtime biscuit.

Coffeewithmyoxyg3n · 17/07/2020 20:37

@OwlInAnOakTree he is a border collie which I think is the same as yours?

Managed to find a spot in the garden he seems happy to go straight to the loo in which is great. My dd is staying with my mum tonight to give him the night to settle so chaos will descend from tomorrow when she gets to meet him I'm sure !

Borris · 17/07/2020 21:59

I'm also joining the holiday club - off to Devon with pup int the first week of August. Planning on taking the crate which I cover with a blanket anyway so hoping in the dark she won't notice anything different. Probably wishful thinking.

Also hoping that being out most of the day will mean she just sleeps in the house and doesn't wee on the carpet.

Toilet training still our worst bit. She's ok as long as I'm taking her out real regularly. I don't think she's ever asked to go out for one. What age should we expect to crack it or is it really variable.

Also have arranged a dog walker to meet in a few weeks. Pup can come to work with me which is lovely but on my 2 long days, when she's old enough I'd like a dog walker to collect her to break the day for her.

polkadotpjs · 17/07/2020 22:31

We've regressed on toilet training and although he'll go outside and I praise him he doesn't ask to go out.
He's been admired a lot on his walk today which he lapped up like some little prince. 🙄
We had our first grim incident today. I was cleaning up poo - with a poo bag- and he launched at the bag , puncturing it and getting poo on his teeth 🤢🤢🤢
I had a brainwave to run a cloth in cold water and got him to "steal " it and then got him to chew on it and I wiped his lips. Foul but he smells fresh again now

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 17/07/2020 23:28

Had a completely chilled out day at home. Plenty of sleep. Food. Time in the garden. Lickimat, kong, snuffle mat, some training. She is still bouncing off the walls. I’ve messaged the rescue, we can’t keep this up :(

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 18/07/2020 02:00

Oh @GingerAndTheBiscuits, I'm sorry. It seems a never ending battle. I hope you're all getting a bit of rest overnight.

muckandnettles · 18/07/2020 04:35

@GingerAndTheBiscuits I'm so sorry to hear that things are no better and I know you've tried everything and put so much into the pup.

I'm awake in the small hours because pup barked, woke me up and then as I was out of bed struggling into my dressing gown, I realised it was only one single bark and it would be stupid to go immediately. Sure enough, I waited and there were no more barks so presumably he's weed all over the kitchen and gone to sleep or he's gone to sleep anyway. Either way, I'm wide awake but not going to him. I'll see what the morning brings...

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 18/07/2020 07:02

Hope you’ve not woken up to a puddle @muckandnettles!

Imadreamer44 · 18/07/2020 07:48

First night update from our weekend away: DPup is struggling to know where to go to the toilet. We've had one inside wee (easily cleaned with enzyme cleaner) and one outside wee and poo but only once she was desperate.
She was a bit manic when we got here, took a couple of hours to calm down. Then she slept fine in her pen in our bedroom - a bit of a squeeze in a small cottage!!

LBee2020 · 18/07/2020 07:51

Well done @imadreamer! Sounds like pup is settled now and the worst is over. One wee inside isn't too bad! Good luck for today.

Emrysmcdogface · 18/07/2020 08:22

One wee inside is a good day for us! Also wondering when it goes from me having to watch him like a hawk into defaulting to weeing outside!

The two collie pups are gorgeous!

muckandnettles · 18/07/2020 08:35

@GingerAndTheBiscuits very strangely, pup isn't desperate for a wee and there are no indoor puddles. I can only think that maybe another member of the family got up and let him out but that would be an actual miracle, so I'm not counting on it. Could just be that Muckypup is developing a stronger bladder!

@Imadreamer44 sounds okay so far then! I'm starting to plan a bit more about how we are going to manage when we are away as it's a very different house to ours but we need to keep the routine as much as possible about where Mucky sleeps. Hoping he will be so tired it will be no problem. Have a lovely weekend!

Juiceey · 18/07/2020 16:00

Are the fish4dogs stuff smelly? I hate the smell of fish but I'm tempted from your reviews...

Super cute @Juiceey!

I think GingerPup is secretly reading this thread as she’s been angelic so far today 🙄
