Sick Labrador help?

So yesterday went on a lovely 4 mile walk with him, and he was fine, then last night he was humping his bed for about 30 mins after we went to bed and he was sick twice during the night, this morning very sleepy, he seemed lively at lunch time (when he normally has his food) after about half in hour, he ate it and then threw it up outside, and then just now was sick again. He is still drinking water. Am i best to get get him to vet now or can I wait till morning? I have no idea about out of hours vets? Never had him do this so don't know whether it's a bug or something he ate!

I'm not really sure what to suggest but keeping your post bumped. Could he have eaten anything on the walk?

I’d just keep him quiet overnight and give him much smaller, more frequent portions of his usual food (because his stomach is used to it). If you’re really worried give your vet a call, there will be someone on call you can talk to and decide whether you need to go in or not. I’ve always found with my labs they feel sorry for themselves for a couple of days then are back hoovering crap like normal again. It’s usually something they’ve eaten.

Thanks I didn't see him eat anything on the walk, he was whimpering before he was sick. I know labs will eat anything so probably is something he could have eaten, he's not had anything now since 1pm. You know he isn't right when we have been eating today and he isn't sitting about a metre away from the table.

I wouldn’t call an out of hours vet for a dog that has thrown up a couple of times unless it was in obvious distress in between the sickness . I’d just keep an eye on him overnight and see how things are in the morning .

Has he had a bowel movement?

Thanks @Floralnomad he was sick twice overnight, still not eating but hasn't bene sick since we got up at 7 🤞 I don't know how long to leave it before I ring vets? He isa bit lethargic. He is drinking water this morning as last night he was throwing that up.

Would be worried he had an obstruction if not had a poo.

I’d really get him to the vets. Labs are notorious for being ‘brave’ and stoic, anything involving non bouncy behaviour ( in a non elderly dog) and vomiting In my non vet qualified opinion is bad news. Hope he recovers quickly and it’s nothing serious but please get him checked over.

I'd ring the vets now. He's been sick several times and if he's vomiting after drinking too then he'll dehydrate really quickly. Better the vet can treat it now before it gets any more serious. Good luck OP.

Yeah, I would call the vet. Lethargy in any dog is not a good sign, and in labs is just wrong.

In the meantime, check his gums to see if they're pale. Also pull his skin up and see how quickly it falls back to place. Pale gums and lack of skin elasticity are symptoms of dehydration (as are lethargy, loss of appetite, panting, dry nose, sunken eyes etc)

I'd be worried about obstruction too - especially in an "eat now, ask questions later" lab .

We'd be off to the vets this morning if this were my dog.

Yes I’d give them a ring now if he’s still being sick.

Vet appointment for 5.15 booked (couldn't get in this morning) every time he had had a drink he is throwing up yellow. He is still being sick

Withold water for an hour to give his stomach a rest then offer him a very small amount of water, if he keeps that down, give him another small amount 10-15 minutes later.

If he drinks a lot he'll likely throw up.

Any bloating?
Has he passed faeces?

Hopefully it's nothing serious but the symptoms make me think obstruction or severe inflammation. Good luck

Doesn't sound serious to me!
Chicken and rice diet until he's back to normal. My dogs get sick all the time from there scavenging!

He has had diarrhoea now too and sick has turned orange. Hopefully vet can help him.

If he’s still lethargic I’d call and tell them it’s now an emergency so it can at least be started to be dealt with in office hours if they do need to do very much .

@Floralnomad I have re called them and explained about the symptoms but they said they literally only have that appointment! Nothing before

When you take him in, please push for an X-ray to make sure he doesn't have a blockage - they longer they're left, the worse they are. How is he in himself? Do you think he's in pain at all?

I don't think I'd be pushing for x rays at this stage unless the vet recommends it. An an i emetic and antibiotic is worth trying first, x rays at every upset tum will prove costly, and GA's shouldn't be done lightly.
