So yesterday went on a lovely 4 mile walk with him, and he was fine, then last night he was humping his bed for about 30 mins after we went to bed and he was sick twice during the night, this morning very sleepy, he seemed lively at lunch time (when he normally has his food) after about half in hour, he ate it and then threw it up outside, and then just now was sick again. He is still drinking water. Am i best to get get him to vet now or can I wait till morning? I have no idea about out of hours vets? Never had him do this so don't know whether it's a bug or something he ate!

The problem is, the longer you leave a blockage, the more likely it is to end up killing the dog. Blockages cause necrotic tissue and once it gets beyond a certain place, there's nothing to be done but put the dog to sleep.

You also often don't see signs of a blockage until they're getting bad and causing a problem.

I’d be quite cross at that response actually , what would they do if someone took in a cat that had been run over - tell it to wait until 5:15 ! Do they do their own overnight care or is it outsourced ?

Hi Vanillahoney, I do appreciate that, but the amount of dogs that get upset stomachs rather than blockages will be far greater. Best be guided by the vet, certainly voice concerns about a blockage (the vet will already be aware of the possibility) but I wouldn't push for x rays at this point.

I don’t think it sounds like an emergency. It sounds like it needs seeing, yes, and it is going to be in a couple of hours.

Adwaiting vet to reappear- she thought originally when she took him in, it could be worms.

Was there worms in the diarrhoea or vomit then ?

lil854 · 30/06/2020 18:03

Gastritis is what they think now, so got some medicine for that.

@lil854 how is he this morning has he stopped vomiting

lil854 · 01/07/2020 08:45

@Floralnomad so he had anti sickness injection at vets yesterday, it was meant to take effect by 8pm so he could have tablet and some food but he was still being sick and refusing to even come in the house, we got him settle for the night eventually and then since he has woken up has had some food and water and not been sick again so far.

Fingers crossed he's on the mend.

Hopefully he will feel better soon , it’s so difficult when they can’t tell you what’s going on .
