Our pointy hound is 7 months today!!
Her nose currently reaches over the top of our tables.
But she doesn't know that her legs are soooo long.
She tries to get into spaces she could previously fit..
Many moons and inches ago..
Do your big /tall ddogs know their own size?
I remember our huge rotty still thinking she could (and did if you didn't try to move /breath..)sit on our knees like a dpuppy!
Current dpuppy jumps up on the couch, no space so walks across the back, jumps off back on, walks across, no space and repeat!!
Is she daft or just no self awareness??

Our beagle is two and still thinks he's a puppy

I also have a cat that's about 10kg (he's part Maine Coon) and he likes to be carried around like a baby too!

My ddog1 (saluki x grey ish) is a bit thick tbh, and has no idea of his size and tries to sit on your lap. Both of mine just try and make there be space where there isn't by just sinking into where there is a bit and expanding it. Except if the boy cat is on the sofa, when he gets allll the space and the dogs will be curled up tight at the other end

Her df is a saluki. Dm is grey /deerhound.

I walk a rottie that insists on cramming herself into the crate she had as a puppy - her owners tried to get rid of it as it's clearly far too small for her but she cried and cried until it was put back

She was miffed dpuppy had new accommodation...

Ddog2 who is whippety doberman ish and 5, insists on sleeping in a crate with the door shut. If you don't lock the door when he's ready to go to bed he keeps coming and staring at you until you do so. He is a bit anxious and I think once shut in he knows that he can't do anything about what is happening outside, and so it is now the humans problem

Can you put a pic? I bet shes gorgeous! But yeah all the salukis I know of are a bit bonkers aren't they? In a nice way. I would try to train her not to get up on couch and stay on a bed on the floor. We had to do this with our greyhound. He still tries to sneak up but not when we are all sitting there.

CMOTdibbler I also have a boy cat who takes up all the space on the dog bed with greyhound often sqeezed up gingerly at the end.

Ddogs have own sofa downstairs !
Gave up long ago fighting for a space. We have a ddog - free upstairs living room now!!

Waiting for dc to he a bit older and have more time for classes and training. Current dpuppy is very much copying the good habits she left behind and are in our other ddogs right now. I doubt a rotty dpuppy would be so complient!
Dream will be to get one yes definitely!
10 years I had her.

Our 7 year old Lurcher still thinks he can run through people’s legs (a favourite trick of his when he was a pup).

Unfortunately he has absolutely no idea that he’s far too tall, so often headbutts men in areas they would definitely rather not be headbutted in. It’s ok with family, as they all know, but when my son’s Maths tutor first started coming round it was really embarrassing. Thankfully he’s a dog lover and laughed it off.

It took him a very long time to grow into his legs. His fosterers had never had a Lurcher in foster before and were worried there was something wrong with him because of the amount of times he fell over his own feet. He’s had countless emergency vet trips for stitches and staples when his brakes have failed as well. Not to mention ‘Lurchering’ every single member of the family at one time or another. Thankfully that seemed to settle once he finished growing.

Sadly he’s a very, very poorly pup these days. I’d give anything for him to be wandering around headbutting unmentionables and flying headlong into fences, but all he can do these days is sleep and plod up and down the garden.

Dpuppy has absolutely no control over her feet..
I am hopeful that the lazy greyhound apparent trait will take hold quite soon..
Or am I deluded?

Ddog1 turned one and went from puppy madness to a grumpy old man overnight. But they do calm down between 12 and 18 months.
People are always shocked when they meet greyhound/whippet/lurcher puppies and find how bonkers they are. I particularly enjoy the 7pm zoomies, which in some cases turns our sitting room into a pointy wall of death attraction. Bouncing off the walls is totally accurate.
I love them learning to control their legs. The amount of work their tail does to balance them is incredible.
My next foster arrives this week, so here we go again! A few weeks off and its been strangely peaceful

I’d agree, between 12 and 18 months was roughly when my two settled down a bit.

Every time I thought ddog2 had stopped growing he’d shoot up again. He eventually stopped at 28 and a half inches to the shoulders. He was 29.5kg, but is sadly only 20 at the moment - although thankfully slowly regaining now. I have no idea of his mix though, as he was found dumped in a ditch at just a couple of hours old. There’s definitely Saluki in there somewhere though, too many traits for there not to be. We were told he was believed to be Whippetty in type and wouldn’t be too tall when we first looked into taking him on!

Our other boy is 4” shorter. He’s deerhound/saluki x grehound/bearded collie and I think the bearded collie bit must be where he gets his shorter legs from.

They have totally different temperaments as well.

We have 2 Lurchers that she walks right over the top of!!

I'd guess she would be in the female greyhound weight bracket, so 30kg ish, maybe 30" TTS. A beautiful big girl, though its always hard to tell.
