Dog is 14. Has been in good health but has seemed a bit senile during the last year.

About an hour ago he seemed a bit wobbly when we let him out and then just stood still in garden for about 10 minutes until I led him back in. He nearly collapsed on way in then just stood shaking and breathing fast.
We manoeuvred him onto his bed where he’s stayed. Breathing has calmed down but he’s still shivering.
Should I call emergency vet? Is there anything they could do for him that won’t distress him?
I’m sleeping (well not sleeping) downstairs with him.

That's good to hear.

So pleased for him, and you.

champagneandfromage50 · 02/03/2020 22:24

That is really good news

Bunchofkeys · 03/03/2020 17:57

He’s still moving a lot better and doesn’t seem to be in pain but his back legs are giving out every so often. Will see how he goes over the next few days.

Poor old chap, wish him well.

Bunchofkeys · 05/03/2020 04:16

I’ve just let him out in the garden, gone to the loo myself and come back to find him lying under the trampoline. Don’t know if he’s collapsed again or just being weird-this is a dog who would never willingly lie down on a cold, wet surface!
I’ve carried him back to his bed. Sad I’m still hopeful that he will get better but I don’t think it’s looking good.

Just watched him stagger under the trampoline and lie down again. Really really out of character. I don’t know what to do.

Get him back into the house - can he stand? And look into his eyes, are they flickering?

devildeepbluesea · 05/03/2020 07:36

Get him in and take him to the vets. I'll be honest, I think he's trying to tell you he's had enough. 💐

devildeepbluesea · 05/03/2020 07:38

Sorry posted to soon - of course, the vet.may be able to suggest some meds which will help him, like before. Fingers crossed for you and him.

BiteyShark · 05/03/2020 08:01

Take him to the vets Thanks

My dog when seriously ill would lie on the shower floor as he clearly got pain relief from the cold damp surface. Sounds very similar tbh.

Bunchofkeys · 05/03/2020 08:13

Yes I’ve got him back in and on his bed. He can stand and eyes seem ok. Vet seeing him today
