The one thing we didn't discover in our fairly extensive research before getting BastardPup was that the breed is notorious for shedding. He is nearly 2 and I swear he sheds enough every week to knit a new dog

Took him for a full groom yesterday and they took a ton of hair off him. I have washed all of his bedding. We have a Shark hoover (which he loathes). I am still covered in sodding dog hair.

Do I just resign myself to buying new bedding every six weeks? Despite being lint rolled, shaken well and washed, his blanket is still completely covered. Or am I missing a trick?

My Goldie is just starting her spring moult. This time last year we still had big dog too, it has to be said, the one thing I don’t miss is having the two of them doing it at once. So much hair.

To answer your question, good brush every day. Hoover every day then turn around slowly, by the time you’ve gone 360° it’ll all be back & resign yourself to it happening forever more . What breed out of interest? I found lab (so short ish wirey) hair harder to get up properly compared to my Bernards or the Goldie

He is a Smooth Collie. He is beautiful. Just bloody stupidly hairy.

And because we are stupid he is a Blue Merle so has hair in at least three different colours.

Ah yes, the type that gets stuck in the weave of the fabric. MILs lab had a velour type blanket on his bed which was fairly easy to brush/beat the hair off. You can use a damp microfibre cloth on smooth hair dog to get loose hairs off them too.

So saying, the GSD gives it a good go twice a year. Even the Rotties manage to produce an inordinate amount.

We don't have the dogs upstairs, that saves our bedding.

The sittingroom is covered in rugs, which are taken out and given a good beating on a regular basis. The sofa has a big fleece on it and that's changed daily.

Carpets are hoovered frequently.

All dogs are brushed daily.

And yet it's still hair central at this time of year!

I have a cross breed smooth collie and I often wonder why he isn't bald the hair rolls over the floor like tumble weed. My best ever buy was a handheld hoover for the floors/stairs not the dog obvs

MrsMozart we have a St. Bernard cross! He's just climbed on my lap and now me and the sofa are both covered... there are f it tumbleweeds on the carpet I've already hoovered this morning and the robovac is working in the hallway as we speak. I generally hoover twice a day and the robovac has a go too.

With regards to his bed, he sleeps on a comforter in a plastic bed. The whole comforter goes outside on the line for at least an hour every day that that is possible with the weather. It gets thrown in the washer only after being outside (the wind helps blow away some of the fluff) at least once a week. Daily outdoor brushing, every walk we go on I spend at least 10 mins brushing him down whilst out and another when we're back. Full brush out and deshed every couple of months. It is extreme!

Luckily, he doesn't drool and is very gentle and well behaved so the plus points outweigh the hair 😂

My border collie moulted constantly, and like you I would come back from the groomers with high hopes of not finding dog fur in my dinner that night...and have them dashed cruelly to the (hairy) floor! I had to have him pts in September so when I opened a board game last week and found a clump of fur it brought tears to my eyes. I would do anything for a dog hair in my coffee right now 😔

Get a Roomba. Or any robot vacuum. I have two very fluffy cats and just bought a cheap Chinese Roomba copy and it’s an absolute game changer, the amount of hair it picks up in unreal!

Our Dalmatian loses hair constantly. I have just accepted cleaning washer and dryer filters constantly and the house being mostly furry now.

Get a robot vac, it will literally change your life. I have a eufy and love it. We have 5 cats, (two sisters were a very unexpected rescue, but we adore them), and I was dragging out the vac a couple of times a day, every day, to deal with the fur. Not anymore, which has made me soooo happy. I love to clean, and I keep a very tidy home, but the constant hoovering was killing me, and not from a physical perspective, but from a mental one. I just couldn't keep up, no matter how hard I tried. My eufy is a dream come true.

I have a German Shepherd and was told they only moult twice a year. They failed to mention those two times were

B&M have started selling a product to go in the washing machine that is supposed to dissolve pet hair but I haven't used it myself. I assume supermarkets may also stock it.

Ikea do really cheap fleece blankets so I buy loads of those and put them over the dog beds and change them regularly. They are two tone grey striped at the moment and are about £1.50. They wash fine.

Breed dependent, a Furminator brush should help you stay on top of the worst between grooming appointments or failing that a slicker brush. Mine will also tolerate being vacuumed which cuts out the middle man.

You have my sympathy, we have a black lab and a Springer cross, dog hair everywhere, the lose so much I'm genuinely surprised they aren't bald!
It wafts everywhere , if I get a plate down from the plate rack I can almost guarantee they'll be a dog hair on it., when they lay on our cream carpet they leave a black ring of hair , I just have to resign myself to it, I've got an animal Dyson and hoover every day but it's still hard to get it off carpet.
Regular brushing kinda helps but tbh they still shed hair.
Next dog will definitely be a variety that doesn't shed hair! Although having said that I have friends who spend more on dog grooming than they do at the hairdresser!!

Are the ikea fleeces really £1.50? I get mine from £stretchers but i pay a bit more for a 2 pack, i also do the change over i ruined a washing machine with washing dog bedding.

I've just checked, they've put the fleeces up to £1.75.

I bought 10 last year so haven't needed to get any for a while. They change the style every so often but always have one that is considerably cheaper than the others.

My hoover literally rolled over and died today!

We had two Shetland Sheepdogs who moulted constantly - one tricolour & one shadowed sable so contrasting colours of hair too.

They died five & half years ago & we still find dog hairs to this day.

My two pugs are shedding like nuts at the moment (for their spring coats) coupled with a bathroom renovation and the house feels like a cesspit to be honest.

I'm considering getting one of those hoover attachments? I have zoom groom which works to some extent but then I just end up with a mountain of hair outside which blows back in doors

I have two german shepherds and the hair is constant. I have hair on every surface and can’t eat a meal without a hair in it. I hoover every day without fail sometimes twice and have no carpet at all now!

I don’t have any ideas, just sympathy!

If I got a Roomba he would never forgive me. He has to hide in the garden when I hoover.

My mam was over today and while I was out she gave everything a bloody good hoover. I am determined to keep on top of this and hoover every day.

I have a tri smooth collie who will be 2 in April. I use a couple of de-shedding tools. Mine had the most massive moult at the end of November for about 3 weeks. I took her into the garden twice a day for a good brushing/combing & my garden ended up with carpet of hair & we were still covered, but since then I comb her once a day & a minimal amount comes out. I also washed her in the bath when the moulting reached its peak.
Her winter coat has subsequently grown in & know I will have to go through a massive moult again. Last year it was in May, along with my double coated cat at the same time. It was relentless for 3 weeks.
The last area to moult on mine is her back end, and I tend to go over that with a comb with two sets of teeth (long & short on same edge). I'm always amazed at the amount of hair that comes of this area.
With bedding do you have a tumble dryer? I put all bedding in the tumble dryer. Even the items that say don't tumble dry, on low heat for 10-20 mins at a time, until hair removed. I find it's the only way to remove the hair. I've decided that whatever pet bedding/blankets etc. can't survive the tumble dryer is no use to me, but so far everything has survived, even the nylon backed covers for her bed.

Another vote for a robotic vaccuum.

I thought I'd have to spend significant time getting our dogs used to our Roomba, especially one who has a deep mistrust of the upright hoover. They all accepted it without o much as a glance. This is a different house since we got one. You can see the carpet, for a start.

I feel your pain. Mine is a golden retriever. I don’t think a roomba could actually cope with his hair. It would run away in fear.

I have a Jack Russell he moults constantly. I hoover everyday and I have a special zipped bag for the washing machine. I wash his bed and blankets in said special bag and no hair escapes into the washing machine. I bought it on ebay.
