The doghouse

DDog can't wait quietly outside a shop

Every time I leave my dog outside our local shop for 3-5 minutes to buy a bottle of milk etc, he barks incessantly. He can even see me while he's barking, it doesn't matter... he knows where I am, he just doesn't like being left for any period. He's fine to be left at home.
I really wish he would chill. What should I do? I was thinking of giving him a chewy treat next time...
Anyone have this issue?

My DM used to leave me in my pram outside shops when she went in with my older DSis. One time she forgot I had been born, and went home without me.
We still joke that we originally had a third sibling...
Some regulars to my local corner shop still leave their dogs tied up outside, it makes me uncomfortable for them.
One daily visitor isn't even tied up - he just sits next to the wall with a regally bored look on his face and rolls his eyes at anyone approaching until his elderly gent owner comes out then they amble off home. It's a nice throwback to days gone by and I cross my fingers nothing ever goes wrong.

I used to try leaving my dog by the side door of our local coffee shop as I'd seen other dog owners do it when they nipped in to get a drink. It's well hidden from passersby.

My dog wasn't having it, he'd be barking as soon as I went inside. Luckily the owners know me and are very nice, so now I sprint to the counter, leave the money (I always have the same drink) and go back to my dog. They hand my coffee out of the side door. Grin

I also hadn't considered dog theft as people do leave their dogs outside more here. I wouldn't leave him anyway, he really doesn't like it.
