I am devastated.

He was 15 years old, so had a great innings. His legs and joints finally gave out very suddenly this afternoon and he became unable to support himself or get up.

Just back from the out of hours vet. He is at peace now.

Maybe I will post a picture tomorrow when I can possibly face it.

What a handsome boy. It really is the hardest part of loving a pet.

koshkat · 05/11/2019 18:26

Oh OP I feel for you. It is the hardest thing in the world. Take comfort in the fact that you loved him dearly and that you gave him a long and happy life.

Charlie was very beautiful. Such a soulful face. Lovely stories about him. Very sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Charlie.

Thank you. I am still struggling with it at the moment. I know it was the right and the only kind thing to do, but it is so hard.

He was my first dog, and perhaps therefore my dog of a lifetime. I learned so much from him, and also spoilt him rotten and probably let him get away with far too much.

He has just very suddenly declined dramatically that afternoon, having been reducing his appetite over the last week. Suddenly, he simply couldn't get up anymore. DH and two of my three DDs were able to come to the vets, and DH and DD3 (who is 17) had to carry him in between them as he could no longer do it himself. That was such a sad sight and we all knew what we had to do.

The tears still keep coming, but I think I will feel better when we have his ashes back.

So sorry for your loss op Flowers Charlie was very handsome & obviously loved very much.

I lost my beloved boy in july & I know grief is a very personal thing but once I got his ashes back I had a small bit put into a charm bracelet.

Not to everyone's taste but it's a huge comfort to me knowing hes near.

ThrilledToTiddlyBits · 07/11/2019 18:56

I'm so sorry OP Flowers

Our beloved Lab was PTS this year, he sounds very similar to your boy. I felt better once his ashes came home. He is in a labrador urn that has a collar and his tags on. How is your other dog coping? Our other dog had separation anxiety for months, he really did seem to be grieving along with the rest of us x

He has a very kind face! What a lovely boy. We have a Charlie too who is now nearly 12 and we would all be as devastated as you when we lose him.

Topseyt · 07/11/2019 21:04

Thanks again. Our spaniel is coping, but looks a little lonely without him. She is 14 herself, so an elderly lady. Still fairly crazy and comparatively exuberant although she is slowing down somewhat now.
