Dog name - that either isn’t a person name, or is a very unusual person name?

Picking up our dog soon and can’t think of a name!

I prefer dog names that either aren’t people names - or are very unlikely people names.

So far I like:
Digby
Peanut
Pippi
Rocco

But not feel quite perfect.

Anyone want to give me some suggestions?

My kids like all names from kids’ movies they’ve seen or books they’ve read! So any unusual names that come from kids’ books (hence Pippi) or just any suggestions really! Would be so helpful!

Oh, Diggory is nice - a friend used to have a cat called that. Unusual and from a book Smile

toptomatoes · 04/10/2019 12:52

Ours is Lolly (named by kids after lollipops and LOLing)

ScreamingValenta · 04/10/2019 12:54

Names of composers are often good for dogs, e.g. Mozart, Prokofiev, or 'Bach' if you want a double-entendre!

aweedropofsancerre · 04/10/2019 12:56

We had a Dr Who which was my fave.

Bullet
Balloo
Hamish
Rory
Piper

Basingstoke. I like place names for dogs
Jilly Cooper recommends place names for pets - I believe she had a dog called Sevenoaks.
It's a method we've used successfully for several pets, normally where they came from. We had a dog called Marston from Marston Geen in Birmingham, and a cat called Yardley

Lllot5 · 04/10/2019 13:06

I had Oberon and Titania once for cats.

zelbazinnamon · 04/10/2019 13:08

I've met a Nigel, Boris and Dave (dogs). Apparently Dave doesn't work brilliantly as it's too common amongst humans & embarassing shouting it in the park.

I've met a Baskerville too, thought that was great.

My golden retriever is called Hugh, he is wonderful I didn’t name him though.
He gets nicknamed Hugo and the hughver
Used to get funny looks when I called him but human names seem to be in just now.
Friend has a dog called Nigel

AnnaNimmity · 04/10/2019 13:19

Fido is a great name. I wish I'd gone for that.

Frouby · 04/10/2019 13:24

I had 2 pet rats called Rimmer and Lister from Red Dwarf.

And Guinea pigs called Rodney and Delboy.

I like Stanley for a dogs name. And Toby. And Buster. We had a Buster growing up, named after the dog in Famous 5.

Depends what name it can carry off. Do we have a picture or breed?

PrestonNotHeston · 04/10/2019 13:26

I think it's time for 'grandparent' dog names to make a comeback - Fido, Rex, Rover, Patch, Lucky.

StrongTea · 04/10/2019 13:28

Woody

Raahh · 04/10/2019 13:29

My dog is called Ike.

I had a house rabbit called Brian and a fish called Desmond.

I am a big fan of people names for pets Grin.

AnnaNimmity · 04/10/2019 13:36

Brian is a great name for a dog.

Mine's called Dave. He's gorgeous. I wanted to call his sister Elaine.

But actually I think traditional beano type names are the way forward. I'd like a cat called Tiddles I think. a

MrsCharlesBrandon · 04/10/2019 13:36

Shadow (DDog's name)
Simba
Stitch
Deeogee (D-O-G)

There's a dog near us called Moose!

RustyBear · 04/10/2019 13:38

AliasGrape · 04/10/2019 13:40

Oh I love people names for dogs! All mine have been rehomed so come with names already, but I’d love a dog called either Steve or Colin!

Digby
Cooper
Ace
Biff
Mycroft
Clovis
Jinx
