Calmisthemantra that's good to know. Maybe next time!

BiteyMcBiteFace · 02/10/2019 21:44

Our cat grew up with a lab fro man hand rear kitten and new pup is also a lab and she can't understand why this one is so horrible to her. They got on ok to start with, but the older pup has got the more bolshy she has got with the cat. We have stair gates everywhere and pup on a house line, but any opportunity she will rush at the stairgate to scare the cat. Peeing me off, as the cat was here first and her life is pretty miserable now Sad X

BiteyMcBiteFace · 02/10/2019 21:45

That was supposed to say hand rear kitten Hmm

Ridusofyourstupidity · 03/10/2019 06:11

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to update you all because of how I was struggling. Hope is 9 weeks old now, still a bit growly but it’s play growling as far as I can tell. I’m going to do some 1-2-1’s with our trainer as soon as she’s had her jabs if nothing else to build my confidence. She’s come into the bitey phase now she’s warmed up, so I’m trying to remember they’re all like that and it’s not personal! She’s a bit of a tart and loves a belly rub.

I bloody fell in love with her two days ago and now the ‘wee beastie’ is definitely stuck here so I hope she does like us now!

ClownsandCowboys · 03/10/2019 06:32

Ridusofyourstupidity that is so lovely to hear.

Calmisthemantra · 03/10/2019 08:17

@ClownsandCowboys oh yes you definitely need a whippet

@Ridusofyourstupidity oh that's so lovely. Maybe it just took her a while to warm up. I think if the trainers 121 you can do it after 1st jabs but don't have to wait until they're complete. Mantra pup started puppy school just after his 1st jabs as the trainer said the hall is cleaned before hand and it only has vaccinated pups in the class

Alsohuman · 03/10/2019 11:31

@Ridusofyourstupidity, that’s such good news.

I knew we were counting chickens. After two accident free days, the little bugger pooed under the kitchen table this morning. Bound to happen and our fault for taking our eyes off her for two minutes.

Girliefriendlikescake · 03/10/2019 13:12

We're just back from a semi successful walk, he seems to take a while to get going and is much better off lead than on lead!

Am assuming at some point they will just walk without wanting to stop every 2 mins to look at in interesting leaf/bit of grass/stone/manhole cover/spider/bit of rubbish??!

Alsohuman · 03/10/2019 13:15

Afraid not. Walking our last dog made me lose the will to live. Sorry.

ClownsandCowboys · 03/10/2019 15:01

I've just given her puppy kong filled with peanut butter and banana. She's given up after the easy bit is out! 😂

Girliefriendlikescake · 03/10/2019 18:50

Rid im so pleased 😀 hopefully things will continue to improve.

Also oh no!! 😂

Alsohuman · 04/10/2019 15:16

We’ve just been to buy a harness as walking outside will be allowed next week. We had to buy a rabbit one with a carrot on the front as it was the only one small enough. Who knew rabbit harnesses even existed?

BiteyMcBiteFace · 04/10/2019 16:41

Ridusofyourstupidity That's so lovely to hear that Hope has wormed her way into your affections Smile

Alsohuman Very cute that you've had to buy a rabbit harness, but not envious of the poo under the kitchen table Grin Wasn't the OP of the thread the person with the stealth pooer pup?

Girliefriendlikescake Even after a couple of months of lead walk training Biteypup still loves to look down over drain gulley cover. Really not sure that the fascination is Confused She also loves to jump in puddles!

We have week 5 of 6 of novice training classes tomorrow morning and on the spur of the moment I enrolled in the intermediate classes which carry straight on from this course Shock That means she will have been in training from 13th July right through until 23rd November Hmm

ClownsandCowboys · 04/10/2019 17:29

I'm having puppy regret today. Doesn't help that I've been ill with a stomach bug, but feel a bit miserable and overwhelmed by it all. I feel like I've read loads, but it still isn't enough.

I don't honestly know what we were thinking, I knew it would be hard, but life was already a bit tough and we've made it loads worse.

DH has no experience with dogs or puppies, he is deferring to me. She's bitey, she cried every time we put her in her crate (except night time she seems OK with that).

God it's just like having a newborn, and I hated that too!

ClownsandCowboys · 04/10/2019 17:30

She hasn't poo or wee in the house for days though. And she goes on demand when we take her outside. So that's something.

Sorry think I'm just a bit miserable.

Alsohuman · 04/10/2019 17:54

If you’ve more or less cracked house training, that’s a massive step, @ClownsandCowboys. Ours doesn’t go in the crate at all during the day - I can’t see it being a feature in her life at all once she’s reliably clean at night.

Have you tried the bottle of stones when she bites? It’s working well here. I hope it gets better. 💐

Snoopdogowner · 04/10/2019 20:34

Pup is now 21 weeks old (9 weeks with us) and I'm definitely not "in love" with being a puppy mama. But things have generally got easier compared to week 1 by far. I dont have kids but it is a constant tie to being at home. I long for pup to be a bit older. The plus sides are that he is cute, loves affection and does sleep a lot. He is still bitey and will try the stones in bottle trick this weekend. He has also started barking at us too but think it's his way of wanting to play. Just got to try and remain positive

yodl · 05/10/2019 07:14

Our pup is almost 14 weeks and although it is a bit better than it was in those first weeks (we got him when he was almost 9 weeks) I still regret it.
Our life was so simple and easy. I had all the time in the world to concentrate on my kids who just started school this year. It helps a little that our kids love him. But still what was I thinking?

@Snoopdogowner I was hoping that some time around week 20 our regrets would be all gone but as I see this is not the case :D

Our pup was sleeping with our older dog in the hallway since we brought him home. This morning when we discovered that he had pood twice my DH said this is it, this stops here. So in the crate he goes tonight and I´m already feeling anxious.
He has been in his crate for a short periods of time during the day, say for about 30 minutes tops. But this is something else.

Keepsmiling1 · 05/10/2019 08:05

@yodl I know I have said this before but we could be the same person! Our pup is 14 weeks and although I don't feel as down as those first few weeks I do still regret it. My youngest started school this year so I finally had some time back (I work PT) but now it's like having a toddler again.

My DDs stayed at grandparents on Thursday and normally I would have done a bit of work then gone to bed to read/watch tv and have an early night. But I couldn't because I had to take him out for a final wee and pup would then have been up ridiculously early.

As you said my DDs love him but I really thought that by now I may have started to feel the same too.

ClownsandCowboys · 05/10/2019 12:12

As I was up with pup at 6am again I was thinking "what the hell was I thinking". My DC aren't brilliant sleepers, but they are happy watching TV for a few hours on a Saturday morning.

I'm just in general thinking I'm an idiot and regretting it.

Snoopdogowner · 05/10/2019 12:43

I just scrubbed some mud off the carpet and pup then proceeded to take a piss in the same spot. FML. However pup is now fast asleep. Phew.

@yodl it is easier but still hard work. And frustrating.

Happy Saturday peeps. Thank you for keeping me sane!

yodl · 05/10/2019 17:27

As I was up with pup at 6am again I was thinking "what the hell was I thinking". My DC aren't brilliant sleepers, but they are happy watching TV for a few hours on a Saturday morning.

Exactly! I had the exact same thought this morning when I had to drag myself out of bed, still half asleep, to go outside.

@Keepsmiling1 we really do have similar lives atm!
My DH takes our pup out at midnight and I usually try to stay awake with him. But the reality is we´re both so tired we fall asleep on the couch every night and have to set our alarms to wake us up at midnight. It´s ridiculous.

We decided that we´re not going to let our pup dictate our lives so we took a trip to the city today. Visited a museum with our DC and the pup - found out that there are museums where dogs are allowed, didn´t know that before. Then we had a nice lunch, visited some shops and drove back home. A day well spent and the pup is exhausted, just as I had hoped Grin

But I´d like to thank everybody in this thread as well! I know there is light at the end of the tunnel and we all just have to push through!

Alsohuman · 05/10/2019 17:39

@yodl, ours wouldn’t settle in her crate at night at all until we hit on the idea of giving her a hot water bottle. She goes in without a whimper now.

ClownsandCowboys · 05/10/2019 20:38

Clownpup has a hot water bottle. I said to DH, I wonder how long this will go on, I. An imagine bedding her down with it when she's 5!

Ive been in bed ill all day, so DH has been in charge. DC tell me that Clownpup poo'd in the house. DH isn't as good as remembering to take her out/doing routine/time. Once when the dc were tiny I came home from a rare day out to screaming baby and toddler turned out none of them had had lunch! He just forgot. He's good at other stuff luckily.

We need to work on building up time away. She's done just over an hour. We were going to do it today, but then I've been ill.

TokyoSushi · 05/10/2019 21:59

So beautiful chilled out Tokyopup has this weekend turned into a bitey hell hound! Mainly with me, and mainly at my clothes, he is driving me mad!

I've just put him in bed in his crate as he was getting totally hyper with the biting, fortunately he still goes in there 10pm - 7am without fuss!

He has his final vaccinations on Wednesday so not long now until we can get out. He's also a stealth pooer, not in the wipe clean kitchen, but any opportunity he can get on my lovely grey lounge carpet.

Why did we do this again? 🔫
