Not sure why I'm posting here but I guess I just need a handhold
I adopted a gorgeous border collie from a rescue when he was a pup 3 years ago and he is honestly the most amazing dog but unfortunately I need to find him a new home
Due to relationship break downs I now live on my own and have started a new job doing 4 night shifts a week. I don't have family or friends able to help me and this has resulted in him being on his own around 50 hours a week which is making him so unhappy😔
I've come to the heart breaking decision and contacted the rescue I originally got him from to find a new home and they have arranged to come and collect him at 1pm tomorrow.
I can't put into words how heartbroken I am but I know deep down this is 100% this is what's best for him. He's been there for me through a lot and he's my best friend and my rock. Before I started work we did everything together, he slept in my bed, we ate together and he came everywhere with me.
I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to cope with him not being here with me 💔

Well after a very emotional and heart breaking goodbye badger is now off to his foster home💔 it was one of the worst experiences I've had he wouldn't get in the car without me so I got in with him and when I got out he cried and barked as if he was in pain😔
At least I know I have made the right decision and he can now be truly happy like he deserves as he's perfect❤️

Bless you. Wish I could give you a hug. I had to leave my dog, twenty years ago now, as we moved abroad and I couldn't bring him. The pain - I still can't bear to think about it.

I hope you’re doing ok this evening, you’ve really done the best for him in the long term so just remind yourself of that. The home on the farm sounds lovely and will be good that you’ll be able to know he’s doing ok. My own fury friend died suddenly just a couple of months ago and I’m still finding his loss difficult so I know a little of how you feel, but I am trying to remember all the good times we shared as much as possible and in time you’ll be the same xx

Oh OP, how heartbreaking for you Thanks

Of all the situations I have read on here yours is one of those where I think your reasons for rehoming is correct having tried and failed to find a solution that is in the best interest for badger.

You have done the right thing going back to the rescue and it sounds like the foster home is ideal for him.

That’s lovely that they’ve sent a video already. They sound really nice & running around on the farm will be great fun for him. I hope you can get some sleep after a long night shift x

It's lovely that they've sent you a video so soon and you've been able to see him having so much fun.

It would be weird if you hadn't spent all night thinking about him. All I can say is that this will be harder on you than it is on Badger Flowers I hope you manage to get some sleep after your shift.

I wish my dog's previous owners had kept in touch. Very very different circumstances around the adoption, but they emigrated, split up, and I eventually realised that they'd quietly unfollowed the Instagram where I often post pictures of him Sad Do make an effort to keep in touch with them; it's always nice to think that there's someone else out there in the universe who cares about your dog too.

Oh twinkle - I am so sorry that you've had to do this. if it's any consolation to you at all, the cocker boy currently trundling a treat toy around my living room had to be given up under similar circumstances by owners who adored him, and his rescue went to great lengths to find just the right home for him. We love him dearly and have sent updates and lots of photos to his original family. Hopefully your Badger's new home will do the same. I'm thinking of you at this hard, hard time. You've done a very brave and selfless thing.

@BiteyShark - thank you I know he's in a good place and having a lot of fun already ❤️
@IncrediblySadToo - I've slept the day away as I'm back in tonight it was so strange waking up to videos of him rather than him diving on me but he does seem very happy which has made me relax a lot more x
@ohbigdaddio - I'm doing okay thank you I know I have made the right decision for him thank you 💕
@AvocadosBeforeMortgages - I'm so sorry you have been through something similar and I hope you too are doing okay! It must of been awful to not know how your fury friend is doing x

@spiderlight - thank you so much for the words of reassurance and It makes me so happy to know that they are people out there willing to give dogs a home who have been in such a unfortunate decision xx

Sorry I think you misunderstood! I'm the adopter. I just wish my dog's previous owners (who I knew personally) had kept in touch; I hope you're able to keep in touch with his new carers Flowers
