Do you sleep with your dog?

Just that, really. Not in a pervy way, obvs.:o

Our last dog slept on the bed like the dead, and new pooch has just been accorded the privileges now that his bladder is cast-iron. He loves it, and after an adjustment period when he was so chuffed he kept waking up to tell me, he's calmed down.

I would never say a dog should/must be allowed this, but feel that my work schedule means this human to dog pay-off is a good one. And I like it. Big dog. Big bed.

What are the thoughts of The Doghouse crew?

My two medium size dogs used to creep in bed with me in the night and take all the space! But they were good feet warmers!

Now way would my Dh allow it now Grin

One sleepy (and very comfortable) beagle!

Do you sleep with your dog?
Haffdonga · 28/04/2019 22:39

Very elderly ddog has happily slept in the kitchen (in her own bed) all her life. She's not allowed upstairs and never in our bed.

Until last month ...

She told us that her dementia has made her forget that she isn't allowed upstairs. So bed time has become one long bark-fest until we 'accidentally' leave the kitchen door open and she 'accidentally' wanders upstairs to our room and we 'don't notice' her accidentally settling down with us. She then plops back downstairs before the alarm goes off so she's not there in the morning when we wake up.

I love having her with us. I wish we'd let her sleep in our room all her life.

applesarerroundandshiny · 28/04/2019 22:49

Appledog normally sleeps downstairs on sofa but half way through the night he wants to come upstairs and join us. It's hard to sleep when he gets in the bed though as there's not much room and he keeps jumping on and off. DH works shifts so when he's on earlies ddog normally comes and joins me when DH goes off to work.

Babyroobs · 28/04/2019 23:10

Yes we have two in the bed, it is a bit of a squeeze. Sometimes dh de-camps to our son's room ( he is away at Uni most of the time). They compete as to which one gets to lie right between us, there's usually a bit of jealousy going on between them.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 29/04/2019 00:04

Yep. I used to be a chronic insomniac, and having the dogs to cuddle helps so much.

GrouchyKiwi · 29/04/2019 08:09

Haffdonga That's adorable. I love dogs.

cocomelon23 · 29/04/2019 08:21

No I find it disgusting. My dog isn't even allowed upstairs let alone anywhere near the bed.

SophoclesTheFox · 29/04/2019 08:28

Yep! Two medium sized dogs here in a super king with me and husband. The older one sleeps on my feet and The younger one likes to spoon with me. I find it massively comforting and get a great nights sleep safe in my pack Grin I haven’t died of the disgusting yet.

Cath2907 · 29/04/2019 14:27

Yup - he is lovely to sleep with for a few days post groom when he smells gorgeously perfumed and lovely. The few days before his groom are less pleasant although I do try and keep him clean!

spiderlight · 29/04/2019 16:16

Yes, he curls up at the foot of the bed, although a couple of times we've woken up with him cwtched in between us on his back with his legs in the air. He snores!

cheezy · 29/04/2019 16:20

Oh yes! Spooning the spaniel under the duvet is one of lifes greatest pleasures Smile

GooodMythicalMorning · 29/04/2019 16:38

No because dh won't let me. but in all fairness I'm a pretty restless sleeper as it is so I have a feeling no one would get any sleep if he did. plus he's a 27kg bulldog and painful if he lays on you too long.

ChandelierSail · 29/04/2019 17:07

Yes 😁

ChandelierSail · 29/04/2019 17:08

And 3 cats 😁😁😁

Squickety · 29/04/2019 18:52

cheezy spooning the spaniel is a superb phrase! Grin

Dogparty · 29/04/2019 18:58

My DDog has slept on my bed for 17 years and I love it! DH isn’t as keen but he just had to accept it because I already had DDog when I met him. DH said he wouldn’t do it if we get another dog (but we’ll see at the time Grin )

TheSunIsShining19 · 29/04/2019 19:11

Yep! Wouldn't have it any other way..my Basset Hounds massive ears sends me to sleep stroking them..While I have my Jack Russell by my feet to stroke with my foot 😂

TowerRingInferno · 29/04/2019 19:20

One sleeps in a dog bed in the corner of my bedroom. The other takes himself off to the spare room at 10 pm and sleeps there.

AllGoodDogs · 29/04/2019 22:30

Yes and I hate it. He became very unsettled after our other dog died. They both slept together in the kitchen but after Big Dog died, Little Dog scratched at the stair gate so much he made his paws bleed so now he sleeps upstairs with us, and we haven't had sex since 🙄

rainbowlou · 29/04/2019 22:36

No way, he is so hairy and smelly I couldn’t imagine anything worse!
I love my dog to bits but he doesn’t go upstairs let alone in my bed...he has a bed in the front room and his bed at night in the utility room with the stair gate on and we have all been more than happy with that arrangement for the last 16 years!

ludothedog · 30/04/2019 00:06

Lovely Ludo slept with me in the bed until her arthritis meant that she couldn't get on the bed anymore. She decided that it was more comfortable beside the bed rather than in it. That was the begining of the end. God I miss her.

LondonSouth28 · 30/04/2019 02:07

Yes! I Have two retrievers. One is too old to get into the bed now - he sleeps at the end of the bed. The younger one starts the night on the bed but gets too hot so moves to the end of the bed with the older one. I love hearing their sleep noises all night - their sighs, dreams and shuffling - better than any sleep app!!

Yokohamajojo · 30/04/2019 11:16

Mine usually chooses his own bed which is on the floor beside our bed, he will usually come up for a cuddle in the morning and I know he sleeps on the bed if we leave him which is allowed

Beachbodynowayready · 30/04/2019 12:18

Does a quick dog nap count??
