Do you sleep with your dog?

Just that, really. Not in a pervy way, obvs.:o

Our last dog slept on the bed like the dead, and new pooch has just been accorded the privileges now that his bladder is cast-iron. He loves it, and after an adjustment period when he was so chuffed he kept waking up to tell me, he's calmed down.

I would never say a dog should/must be allowed this, but feel that my work schedule means this human to dog pay-off is a good one. And I like it. Big dog. Big bed.

What are the thoughts of The Doghouse crew?

Yes my dog sleeps beside us every night and had done from the night we first got her. I love hearing her wee sighs of contentment as she settles down to sleep. She sleeps all night and doesn't want to get up in the morning.

dudsville · 28/04/2019 19:01

Our dogs are all small to middle sized. We night a super king size bed to accommodate all of us! As others have said, their presence helps me sleep.

ilovepixie · 28/04/2019 19:18

Loves her sleep!

Do you sleep with your dog?
whiteroseredrose · 28/04/2019 19:19

Yes. Keeps us cosy

Artykitty666 · 28/04/2019 19:31

My girl pokes me with her nose so I lift the covers and she comes in. We spoon or else she stretches out like a human. Apparently I do this without waking up as dp has witnessed. Unfortunately ddog predates do who is a hulk of a man and these days I'm usually sandwiched between the pair of them...

longearedbat · 28/04/2019 20:32

I have had a dog on/in my bed since 1983. Current dog (toy poodle) shares my superking with me, my husband now sleeps in another room. We usually sleep back to back. She's a very quiet sleeper. I used to have lots of dreams about distressed dogs barking and howling, and only realised it was my late jrt making said noises in his sleep which was invading mine.
Anyway, at least my dog doesn't snore, unlike my h.

MattMagnolia · 28/04/2019 21:34

Mine does but dog trainer was very disapproving and says dog problems are often due to dog not respecting owners who let them get level or above them.
I can’t shut him downstairs when he’s been in my bed since a new puppy. Anyone else been told this?

Usuallyinthemiddle · 28/04/2019 21:38

Under the duvet in the crook of my knees.

MsMustDoBetter · 28/04/2019 21:42

Cats have the bed privileges here. They were here first and has their noses out out of joint by DDog arriving.

I also find it reassuring to know that if something was prowling, ddog would bark and alert us.

MsMustDoBetter · 28/04/2019 21:42

If ddog is downstairs that is.

pallisers · 28/04/2019 21:44

Yes - as soon as properly house trained etc.. Dh never had dogs growing up so I can't believe he allowed it but he loves having the dog at the end of the bed.

at some point (I'm hoping at our joint funeral, death from tandem parachute jump for charity gone tragically wrong at age 95) our kids are going to reminise and realise we must have had sex with the dog in the room (under the bed actually). That will be an interesting conversation . ..

MsMustDoBetter · 28/04/2019 21:50

KOBr what kind of dog is that? Looks very much like my poodle/beagle cross.

TheoriginalLEM · 28/04/2019 21:50

One of our JRTs sleeps on the bed - usually under the covers by my feet but sometimes in the middle. I love him being there. The other one sleeps on the floor in his basket and occasionally gets on the bed however will get off if we move.

isntthatalwaystheway · 28/04/2019 21:52

My Girl only sleeps in the bed with Me when DH is working away, I would have her every night but she's a quilt-hogger so there isn't enough space for the 3 of Us! I love it when it's just her and I in the Bed, she's a big dog and makes me feel safe 🐾

babysharkah · 28/04/2019 21:53

Ddog was very sick at Christmas, he's ok now but has somehow pressured us into being in bed with us every night. He used to come up weekends only. I can't turn him down now.

Cryalot2 · 28/04/2019 21:59

No, she has slept in a crate in the living room. There was one exception when she was unsettled and crying and I caved and brought her to bed . She lay on the top of it with a banket over her. But she was unwell.

SpringIsSprung1 · 28/04/2019 22:03

Yep! Love that he is as comfy as I amSmile

MondeoFan · 28/04/2019 22:06

Yes dog sleeps on the end of my double bed every night

GinisLife · 28/04/2019 22:06

Yep. Takes over the bed !!

longearedbat · 28/04/2019 22:11

@MattMagnolia - your dog trainer is using outdated and disproved thinking on dog training. This thinking includes not sleeping on your bed or sofa, not going through doorways before you do, and being fed after the humans in the family have been fed (and a few other strange ideas). Change your trainer.

ifoundthebread · 28/04/2019 22:12

When we are not in it dog naps on our bed but at night time he's not allowed in the room. He was bought as a guard dog and he can't be that sleeping on our bed as he goes into such a deep sleep not a lot wakes him. He superman's out on the sofa, plenty of cushions and throws for him to get comfy on.

duckling84 · 28/04/2019 22:13

Yep JRT sleeps in the middle by our feet. Ds(3) comes in about midnight and sleeps in the middle at the top. Gets a bit squished when ds(7) also decides to come in (usually a couple of nights each month so not too much).
Wouldn't change it for the world

FuzzyPixel · 28/04/2019 22:19

No. As much as I love my dogs, my bedroom is off limits. It's for me and my husband. Couldn't imagine getting intimate with the dogs watching!

Our dogs sleep in our den, when is our upstairs snug and where we watch a film during the evening. They're really cosy there. The den has a sofa bed so every few weeks, I might sleep in the den with the dogs.

Bigsighall · 28/04/2019 22:22

He is allowed. He might stay for 10 mins and gets down into his own bed. I’m a fidget so I think he gets annoyed with me waking him up!

adaline · 28/04/2019 22:26

Mine sleeps on or in the bed with us.

We tried crate training but he just wouldn't settle and was clearly really distressed. We bring him upstairs because I don't want to leave him unattended with the cats as he can be very boisterous with them.

So, the cats have free rein of downstairs at night and the dog sleeps in with us!
