Do you sleep with your dog?

Just that, really. Not in a pervy way, obvs.:o

Our last dog slept on the bed like the dead, and new pooch has just been accorded the privileges now that his bladder is cast-iron. He loves it, and after an adjustment period when he was so chuffed he kept waking up to tell me, he's calmed down.

I would never say a dog should/must be allowed this, but feel that my work schedule means this human to dog pay-off is a good one. And I like it. Big dog. Big bed.

What are the thoughts of The Doghouse crew?

our lurcher sleeps in our bed, under the covers! when we start turning everything off and locking up downstairs for the night he bolts up the stairs to get into his spot in the bed before anyone else 😂 some nights we have the dog, the cat, and 2 kids squashed into bed with us.

userxx · 28/04/2019 12:02

@Meandmetoo Awwwwwww, that made me smile.

lazylinguist · 28/04/2019 12:08

No way. I love my dog, happily hug and kiss him and am really not particularly house-proud or squeamish about cleanliness, but even I draw the line at my bed smelling of dog and getting covered in dog hair. Also he's big - we only have a standard double bed, so there wouldn't be room for him, me and dh anyway.

userxx · 28/04/2019 12:21

@rwalker That wouldn't bother me, both me any my boyfriend sleep naked so bare arseholes is not an issue.

KOBr · 28/04/2019 12:21

Yes. Little one makes no difference really but big one is a bed hog!

SenecaFalls · 28/04/2019 12:24

Yes, she sleeps with us. Usually with her head on DH's pillow and her butt on mine.

bluetongue · 28/04/2019 12:37

Yes he does. Whippet so no doggy smell and not much hair. He also hates getting dirty. It wouldn’t happen if I had a properly ‘doggy’. type of dog.

I do however end up sleeping on a tiny strip of bed as he manages to hog most of the queen sized bed Grin

missbattenburg · 28/04/2019 12:41

Yes. He gets on and off the bed all night long. Despite weighing 23kg he hardly ever wakes me doing it.

Only last night I was thinking about the level of trust (from both sides) that goes into a predator and a hunter sharing sleeping space and marvelling at the relationship between dogs and humans.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 28/04/2019 12:59

Mine does - under the covers in fact. Usually when I fall asleep he's nestled in the back of my knees, but by the time I wake up he's stretched out elsewhere on the mattress.

I sleep like the dead and neither PestDog nor I give two hoots if it's unhygienic!

BarkandCheese · 28/04/2019 13:08

I would but my dog is too tiny, if she fell off the bed she could seriously injure herself, and her bladder is tiny, she often needs to pee in the middle of the night. She sleeps in her own bed in my bedroom though, with a puppy pad in the corner just in case.

Still18atheart · 28/04/2019 13:10

Yep she’s allowed on my bed but on one else’s. Last night she slept in the crack between the pillows with her head squashed between pillows.

Tinysarah1985 · 28/04/2019 13:36

Yep! My crossbreed has slept on the bed since he was 3 1/2 years old. Before that he slept downstairs or under the bed. This was a few weeks ago when my daughter was ill with tonsillitis and conan slept on the bed with both of us

FVFrog · 28/04/2019 13:50

Yes! Most nights although he sometimes jumps off if he gets too hot. My STBXH banned him from the bedroom, my lovely dog and I are much happier now and it has strengthened our bond which we needed to do and had been working on with a trainer.

wendywoopywoo222 · 28/04/2019 13:57

Yes loved my Labrador's cuddled up to me. Sadly only have one now and my old boy is too frail for the stairs now and sleeps downstairs 😢
Does keep the bedroom less hairy.

December2018 · 28/04/2019 14:56

I used to before DS I love waking up with them in bed with me 😊
But until my LO is in his own room they have to sleep in the kitchen for now only 2 more months to go... my LO was breathing in dog hairs and coughing so I had to make the decision to have them sleep downstairs... my oldest one is 13 so it was a massive change for her she's slept with me since she was house trained at 8 weeks old... they are taking the change really well considering

rwalker · 28/04/2019 15:11

@Rwalker That Wouldn't Bother Me, Both Me Any My Boyfriend Sleep Naked So Bare Arseholes Is Not An Issue.

difference is I presume you and other half have mastered wiping your arse

Flurgle · 28/04/2019 15:18

Yes. Sheets changed a lot and we are morning showerers. Also not a very hairy/sheddy type of dog.
It’s a bit warm in summer sometimes though, when he still wants to snuggle Grin

confusedandemployed · 28/04/2019 15:22

Yes, I love having him next to me. House / bed feels utterly wrong if he's having a sleepover at exDH's.

Meandmetoo · 28/04/2019 15:34

"difference is I presume you and other half have mastered wiping your arse"

Still doesn't bother me. She sits on the settee with us, on the floor, my lap even though she's about 4 stone. Dogbumhole is something I can live with on my bed if it means I get to sniff her ears (mmmmm dogears........) and spoon. Best thing ever!

gettingtherequickly · 28/04/2019 15:42

Yes, usually two of the six greyhounds, but never more than two. Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 28/04/2019 15:46

Nope. She sleeps downstairs in the dining room. She's a Newfie so isn't allowed to walk up stairs till she's two and I'm not hoofing a 40+kg puppy up the stairs every night. Can't lift her anyway. Grin

bratzilla · 28/04/2019 15:52

One does, the other will only sleep on a bed if nobody else is in it Hmm. I’m not fussed about the hygiene aspect, my 6yo is much worse.

VixenAbroad · 28/04/2019 15:54

Me and the best dog in the world have shared a bed for 10 years. Never made either of us ill so don’t think it’s too unhygienic :-)

LaurieFairyCake · 28/04/2019 17:28

Yep, me and Woggles sleep back to back. She reverses her butt into the crook of my back to sleep.

She has never farted, doesn't drool or shed. Completely unlike anyone else I've shared a bed with Grin

merryMuppet · 28/04/2019 18:25

My old hound would sleep on the bed on his own blanket and slept in until I woke up whatever time that was. He’d start to tell me around 11pm it was time for bed and make his own way up if I was a bit slow. I loved his warmth and calm gentle presence and he was a perfect bed companion. MuppetPup is in a crate next to the bed right now but will progress to being on the bed when he’s learnt to not get enticed into playing with MuppetCat before 6am. MuppetCat starts clawing at his crate at daylight and would be patting him to play if he was on the bed right now.

Being sighthounds they are v clean, don’t really shed much and aren’t smelly plus I change the sheets regularly. They’re also very tolerant and not snappy or bad tempered even if you move them when sleeping.
