Puppy Has Been Bitten

Please help! puppy is on his way to emergency vet.
Our pup had his first outing today after having all his vaccinations. Met a friend who had her dog with her and he bit our pup on the back leg
It bled, and DH thought he could see bone.
I'm so upset, poor puppy.
Is this going to freak him out now? Will he be put off going out? seeing other dogs? he's such a good boy, I'm devestated😢

I would mention to your dog trainer that this has happened. Some puppy classes are too much of a free for all which is not what your pup needs right now. Mine was bitten at 16 weeks but we had already started puppy classes and it didn't affect him at all at that stage, though he is a Labrador and so naturally sociable and ( wrongly) thought all dogs were his friends.

Sadly he was attacked again at 14 months when they go through their second fear stage and that has definitely made him more wary around unknown dogs.

Bless him. We had a comfy cone for wolfiegirl. The cone of shame freaked her out. Guessing ABs could also upset tum?

Softsoftsoft · 14/04/2019 22:21

The inflatable collar seems to be a success. He shook his head a few times but then settled down. Obviously he'd rather not have it but it's much better than the horrible hard plastic cone. It will be used when he's neutured too. He's taken his medication so well. So proud of him💖

Hope he’s feeling better soon.

billybagpuss · 15/04/2019 06:39

How is he this morning op?

Nesssie · 15/04/2019 11:25

Puppies are remarkably resilient and he will bounce back no problems! Just make sure you socialise him.

How is he today?

Softsoftsoft · 15/04/2019 13:49

thankyou for all your kind words. He's full of beans this morning. I'm having to keep the inflatable collar on as he has started to notice his stitches. He makes me laugh, he rests his head on it like a little old man having a doze. The wound looks clean and dry. Got an appointment for a check up tomorrow.
He does seem abit timid outside, the wind scared him earlier. Early days I guess

Oh bless him. The wind IS scary. True fact! Lots of cuddles and treats. Hope he heals fast.

billybagpuss · 15/04/2019 15:57

I don't like the wind either. He's a little cutie.

BiteyShark · 15/04/2019 16:29

BiteyDog agreed with him that the wind is very scary Grin. He also recommends using the collar as a portable pillow.

Hope he continues to be on the mend.

Softsoftsoft · 16/04/2019 09:59

All appears to be going ok. He has started to try and nibble the stitches, I'm guessing they might itch? He is wearing the inflatable collar quite happily.
What I've found now is that he is very clingy. He will sleep quite happily if someone is with him but as soon as Ieave the room he springs up and follows me,
As much as I'd like to sit on the sofa all day I need to move and do some housework Confused

Update
we went to the vet today, not good news. The wound isn't healing properly. a part of it hasn't knitted together
The vet has now applied medi honey and bandaged it up, hoping to speed healing from inside. If this doesn't work then it's more surgery Sad
poor little thing

Brilliant. The medical grade honey is amazing. Supervet uses it!! Hope it does the trick.

Softsoftsoft · 20/04/2019 17:59

thanks wolfie I could see the difference in the wound. Makes me wonder why they didn't cover it in the first place instead of leaving the stitches exposed.
Hopefully we are on the home run now. I bought him a cows hoof as a treat, he loves it but it stinks!!Grin

Wolfiefan · 20/04/2019 18:24

Grim! At least you didn’t forget to defrost the tripe for your dog’s tea and spend ages trying to scrape off enough with your nails to feed her. Now that reeks. Grin

Softsoftsoft · 20/04/2019 18:59

wolfie that's dedication! I take my hat off to youGrin

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 20/04/2019 19:39

She didn’t. Dog got bored and left me to it. Grin

Softsoftsoft · 23/04/2019 10:54

Another update,
wound still not healing properly, so today the vet has glued it and applied more medical honey. I can't believe how long this is dragging on😟 poor pup now hates the car as he knows it means vet visit. All from another dog biting himSad
