Bloody hell distant cat / lion or tiger? Sounds like that should be on a lead! Hope DDog is ok

distantdog · 12/07/2019 19:03

Ha I know! I had hiking poles with me that I dropped when dealing with Ddog, so texted my friend in the village and asked if he could go and grab them for me as I couldn't bring Ddog back down that way (and DH was away).. he was like, hang on who attacked whom???? but also knows the cats round here and also Ddog so knew she wasn't the aggressor. To be fair to the cat, which is a tabby, I think I have seen a much smaller tabby round that chalet recently and I think therefore it must have had a kitten recently so is extra feisty. But it really was totally vicious and unprovoked Shock

BiteyShark · 12/07/2019 20:31

I think cats are under estimated when it comes to dogs. We have several that sit on the fence and torment BiteyDog. They only retreat if I come out and go up to them and shoo them off the fence.

However, saying that I am not sure even they would go on the offensive attack mode so you must have the mob cat family living near you Grin. Hope distantdog isn't too traumatised. Winefor you as well.

Cats are vicious bastards sometimes. I have scars from one of my parents' cats who was obsessed with sneak attacking me when I was innocently walking around outside.

GrouchyPup seems to have recovered fully from her scare last week. She had a play with a German Shepherd pup who lives close by and it was very cute to watch.

drinkswineoutofamug · 13/07/2019 11:33

Top tip. Don't hang white wallpaper when you have a black dog.

distantdog · 13/07/2019 19:00

I still have a scar on my wrist from when a cat scratched me when I was 5 years old! To be fair I find it quite useful as it is exactly on the right spot to take my pulse, so never have to fiddle around trying to find it on the rare occasion that I need to.

We took on a cat when my mum's friend was ill and moved back to France when we were little - we loved him and he never scratched us but used to smack our lovely dog round the face! Glad to hear GrouchyPup is fully recovered. Ddog was apparently refusing to walk down to the village with DH today so is obviously still a bit spooked.

I'm sort of finding "don't have anything white" when you have a black dog is the way forward these days! The moulting has definitely calmed down from the spring shedding but still have to sweep our floors on a daily basis.

Squirrel26 · 14/07/2019 06:41

SquirrelDog and I were stalked by a cat yesterday morning - every time he turned round it stood still and looked nonchalant and then when he started walking again it followed us. Grin All the cats round here are REALLY confidant. SquirrelDog not so much.

BiteyShark · 14/07/2019 14:09

Just catching up with all the posts as have been away for the weekend. BiteyDog has had a good time at his boarding place but is now guilt tripping me into ball play every two minutes.

OP posts:
BiteyShark · 16/07/2019 18:50

BiteyDog really is accident prone. He's on semi rest as he was intermittently limping last night.

OP posts:
Squirrel26 · 17/07/2019 20:26

I think my dog is broken. He likes chasing tennis balls. He cannot grasp that if he gives me back the tennis ball, there will be another tennis ball to chase. Instead, he brings it to me to ask me to play, but he won't let go. He just likes to use my leg as a convenient hard surface so he can get purchase to have a really good chew on it. Hmm

drinkswineoutofamug · 17/07/2019 20:48

Mugdog is behaving herself. There's some new dogs on the park. 2 rotties, 4 boxers and a German Shepard. They are all about 2 -3 yrs and mental. They all spend 40 mins running round in circles, then rolling around mouth playing before collapsing. Mine is always last one standing and woofing and bouncing wanting more! It's better now there are more dogs her age as the older dogs don't seem to tolerate her as much.
She's also taken to lying on the sofa so she can get a better look out the back window for pigeons and squirrels

Squirrel, it took BiteyDog ages to understand the ball retrieving thing. The most annoying was when he would run to get it and then wait for me to walk to him, categorically refusing to run back.

I love those pointy ears drinkswine Grin.

Absolutely knackered at work but due to BiteyDogs intermittent limp I won't be exercising him much this weekend so hopefully we can both rest.

Squirrel26 · 19/07/2019 07:18

Aargh, he’s doing it now! Standing looking at me with a ball in his mouth. Won’t relinquish the ball. I think he just wants an audience. ‘Look at meee! I’m doing a thing!’

BiteyShark · 19/07/2019 07:22

Squirrel: Drop the ball you daft dog and I will throw it again

SquirrelDog: Daft owner hasn't got his own ball and I am definitely not giving them mine. Get your own!

OP posts:
drinkswineoutofamug · 19/07/2019 12:47

Absolutely knackered. Bloody dog. We have a nest of birds in the back garden ( can't cut the hedge) . Mugdog is fascinated with it. So much so 3am she's getting me up on the pretence of needing a wee just so she can go and peep at this nest. Took her on a 2 hour walk last night to see if that would make her sleep. No 4am , so yeah got an extra hour. I'm trying to work full time while studying and it's killing me. And yes to the ball trick. She expects me to chase her around the garden for the ball. She doesn't seem to get that if she gives it to me , I will throw it back to her 🙄

BiteyShark · 19/07/2019 12:49

drinkswine those nightly trips round the garden killed me and is why we relented and let him sleep on our bed so you have my sympathies.

OP posts:
drinkswineoutofamug · 19/07/2019 12:57

She has her bed next to our bed. About 4am she does the sas commando crawl up the bed. Husband wakes up to find he's sharing his pillow with dog!
I can be very precise with these times as I look at my phone having a ffs moment. She does sleep better on our bed. I know the pack thing has been discredited but maybe that's how they see it? Also with the anxiety she was showing when we first got her? Pass. All I want is a full nights sleep

BiteyShark · 19/07/2019 13:09

I often wake up to BiteyDogs arse very close to my face Hmm. He has to be touching one of us with some part of his body when he sleeps at night. All I can say is that it's a good job I love him Grin

I honestly never wanted him on the bed but the constant sleep deprivation with his nightly jaunts nearly broke me.

We are just delighted that Ddog is sort of starting to get the chasing the ball thing. The idea that she would ever bring it back to us for us to throw seems like an impossible dream!

When we first got Ddog we had a lovely big bed for her in the living room - which she did not move from for 72 hours except to scuttle over the corner and do a wee/poo when we weren't there to see her! Once we finally managed to get her to come out with us on the lead and she get a teeny bit more comfortable with us she then very suddenly latched onto me and would sleep on the hard floor outside our bedroom door whimpering until we opened the door but blocked it with chairs. So now she has her bed outside our bedroom door but behind a baby gate - so she can see us and feels that she's with us but can't get to us in the night. Works really well for us but I don't know if there's any turning back once they've started sleeping on the bed! Was so tempting to let her join me on our massive superking bed when DH was away but too scared to break our routine as we realise we are lucky not ever to be woken up by her in the night. nearly makes up for all the other hassle she causes

Squirrel26 · 20/07/2019 13:13

Took SquirrelDog for his vaccinations yesterday. There was a cat in the waiting room making a godawful racket, which caused him to completely lose his mind before we even went in, and then he recognised the vet as one who had previously committed the terrible offence of trying to take his temperature. Hmm

He absolutely refused to have the kennel cough vaccine squirted up his nose. She gave it to me to try at home: With the aid of large amounts of cheese, I got close enough to spray it in his face. I am not optimistic about the level of immunity he’s going to receive.

BiteyShark · 20/07/2019 16:47

You are brave Squirrel attempting the KC vaccination yourself. I think I would have ended up shoving it up my own nose by mistake in the battle that would have ensued.

How is everyone coping with the heat? Ddog ran off up into the forest chasing something again the other day and totally cooked herself. Drank my entire litre bottle of water again but could barely lift her head above the bowl which was really worrying as the river we were next to was pretty dried up. Managed to get her down to some water after a 5 minute gentle walk and she lay in it and sorted herself out, but then got her to a place that was accessible by car and got DH to come and get us.

Have just been taking her to a shaded canyon for her to potter about in the pools since then, no real walking. Expecting a big storm at the weekend - a full day of rain - and then a return to mid 20s temps... I can't wait! She even overheated herself a bit last night, running around with next door's dog in the field for 15 minutes - it was 8pm but I guess still too hot for her. Cold wet towels seem to really help.

BiteyShark · 25/07/2019 08:10

Our daycare takes them to the forest where there are still streams and puddles in the day.

When he is with me I haven't been walking him. Instead I have battered a ball about a foot away from him in the shade. He still loves it because it's his BALL even if he isn't running about.

And all I can say is thank god we bought the aircon unit earlier in the year for the bedroom Grin

I too am looking forward to the cooler temperatures. Roll on the weekend.

Squirrel26 · 25/07/2019 09:36

I scattered some ice cubes on the living room floor this morning before I left for work. Grin Luckily it doesn’t get too hot in there with the windows open and the curtains partly closed (old cottage).

drinkswineoutofamug · 25/07/2019 17:15

Mugdog is giving me death stares. She was that hot I ran a cool bath for her. She then used my new sofa to try and dry herself . Evil looks ever since.

She's now lay in the living room panting
