(I've got carpet in my bedroom, so biteydog can clip-clip all he wants.)

BiteyShark · 01/05/2019 20:14

Ah yes they wait until you order the bulk bag before deciding they actually don't like it after all Hmm

Wooden floors are rubbish. I have put some rugs down but he still finds the wooden sections.

So yes you can have BiteyDog with your carpets and I will have SquirelDog as I have plenty of different flavours of food having spent a fortune working out what BiteyDog likes Grin

I think PestDog likes a variety of foods, and his stomach has no difficulty in switching between brands and flavours, so I keep a few options in at any one time and switch between them. I wouldn't like to eat the same thing every day for the rest of my life either as I'd get bored!

On the couple of occasions when he's genuinely not liked a food at all (not just got bored) I've given it away on Olio as I can't stand to waste perfectly good food; people are always grateful even if it's open or a bit out of date so you can give stuff away via Olio that you can't give away via food banks.

Squirrel26 · 02/05/2019 10:42

I’ve never heard of Olio, I’ll check it out.
(Or I’ll just keep feeding it to him as he is eating it, just after 5 minutes or so of huffing.)

GrouchyKiwi · 02/05/2019 19:55

Thanks bluetongue. Am a Kiwi in the UK.

GrouchyPup is back on anti-inflammatories after hurting her leg a couple of weeks ago. Sad She keeps lifting one of her legs up when running (the first time she did it she yelped). If it doesn't sort itself out this time we'll have to get an x-ray to check her hips etc.

BiteyShark · 02/05/2019 19:59

Oh no poor GrouchyPup. Hope the tablets do the trick.

BiteyDog smells like a stagnant pond tonight. I think he might have been for a swim on one of his walks at daycare Grin

Hope GrouchyPup’s meds do the trick.

I’m off to visit a doggy crèche near me on Saturday to see what MuppetPup thinks...

Had a scary moment the other day with another pup on one of those extendable leads. Basically pup got away from owner and is in teenage delinquent stage so ignoring recall and as pup dashed past me I put my foot on the lead. Feeling slightly triumphant I’d done a good deed, it all then started to go a bit wrong! - first mistake was picking up the lead in my bare hand. Owner shouted to me that it would burn and she wasn’t wrong so I dropped lead and then second mistake, tried to hook it with my ball thrower. The pup ran round and before I knew it MuppetPup had nasty lead wrapped round his body and then neck. It was happening so fast and I was about to put my hands either side of my pup’s neck to try to stop the lead potentially strangling him when luckily owner managed to grab her pup so he couldn’t pull the lead tight on poor MuppetPup. We managed to untangle me and MuppetPup and owner apologised and I felt v relieved my trying to help didn’t end up in a nasty injury. I’d always known those leads are a bad idea but that was my first up close and personal experience of one. Not quite sure how they’re even on the market. Pups will always get away at times and it wasn’t owner’s fault as these things happen but I felt like I was watching a car crash - the lead is so thin and strong and the pressure exerted is so high and the friction is so painful. Sad

MuppetPup totally unfazed and still loving all dogs. Phew!

BiteyShark · 03/05/2019 08:12

Not quite as bad but we once got tangled in a long lead with a very bouncy lab on the end of it. Fortunately I am not wobbly on my legs because it could have easily took me off my feet.

Hope MuppetPup enjoys the doggy crèche.

Can I say how proud of PestDog I was last night? He managed to smuggle a ball out of the car yesterday and when he briefly dropped it during a 5 minute pee stop in the park an 18 week old puppy stole it and he didn't even grumble or try to get it back Shock

This is a dog that had to be banned from possessing sticks as he got rather growly when dogs got too close to him.

BiteyShark · 03/05/2019 12:10

Avocados Just shows how far you have both come from when you took ownership of him Smile

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 03/05/2019 19:00

Either that or he let it slide as it was a young puppy!

We have an unavoidable visit from relatives that don't like dogs coming up. PestDog completely disgraced himself last time (though maybe he just needed to tell me about their awful character flaws?) so hoping we won't have a repeat. Last time he ran growling at an octogenarian and kept growling at her feet. I had to call him off nobody likes her and people sniggered

I never did trust people who dislike dogs tbh. It always seems to be a sign that they're a wrong'un.

MelanieCheeks · 04/05/2019 16:01

Should I worry abouy puppy hiccuping?

BiteyShark · 04/05/2019 16:43

Melanie I used to just give mine a small biscuit which stopped the hiccups.

Evening all. Dog is now officially a mechanic apprentice. She has a clue the difference between a spanner or a wrench , but there's hope. Loves it at the garage.
Took her out for a run today and met a woman who if I had met her 2 months ago would of saved me the price of a DNA kit! She guessed what breeds dog was straight away. She said the ears were the big give away for the malinos and her build for whippet.
Dog has finally filled out nicely and has a thick coat. She goes this week for her boosters and health checks which as she's now got a fatty bum bum and chubby cheeks she put her weight on. No ribs on show anymore! In fact apart from the pull in waist she doesn't look like a whippet anymore.

drinkswineoutofamug · 04/05/2019 23:05

Oh and the little clever clogs knows when the green man flashes and she hears a beep she can cross the road ! I thought it was a fluke at first until I came to a crossing that didn't beep but the green man flashed. She sat and waited and when the man went from red to green she stood up and looked at me as if to say is it ok with out that sound?
Other slave didn't believe me until he saw her doing it

BiteyShark · 05/05/2019 06:09

Clever MugDog Smile.

We have cracked here. The clip clopping about the bedroom which has been on and off for ages has worn us down. BiteyDog has finally got his way and is now on the bed with us. We finally got lots of sleep the little shit has won Grin

OP posts:
merryMuppet · 05/05/2019 09:12

Clever PestDog, MugDog and BiteyDog! Grin.

I caved for the sake of better sleep and took MuppetPup out of the crate a few nights ago and let him just sleep on the bed. He slept through until 7.30am yesterday and 8am this morning! MuppetCat isn't happy though and mews pitifully to come in and I feel so bad for him. I take him through to my youngest daughters room where he also likes to sleep but last night she was away for the night and so he accosted my eldest half the night and she apparently got very little sleep (3 hours according to her and she has a 9 hour shift at her weekend job today) so sleeping arrangements still not fully sorted - once MuppetPup is calmer, MuppetCat can come back in and hopefully they can sleep together without wanting to have little impromptu parties throughout the night.

Did any of you go to puppy party type socialisation? There is one near me and I can't decide if it's a good idea or a bad idea. So far, I've let him mix with mostly older dogs and the odd pup as my thinking is he will learn better doggy manners from the older dogs but watching him play with MuppetCat, I'm sure he'd love a puppy party.

I agree avocados in not being entirely sure of people who don't like dogs especially people who are quite closed to the idea of dogs entirely and are horrible about them as opposed to people who are genuinely scared because of bad experiences.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 05/05/2019 11:11

PestDog behaved impeccably yesterday. He even tried to make friends with the dog hater by asking her for a game of fetch. Unfortunately the relative spent her afternoon making rude comments about PestDog as per my thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_doghouse/3577260-Rudest-things-said-about-your-dog

Everything I've heard about puppy parties is that the ones where it's a free for all and puppies are jumping all over each other are a disaster as they're allowed to be really rude to each other and some find it overwhelming and scary. Your method sounds perfectly sensible. Are you attending training classes? Usually they have an element of meet and greet in them.

BiteyShark · 05/05/2019 13:23

My vets did puppy parties but it was mostly getting them to climb over things for textures rather than a play fest.

I think introductions to sensible calm older dogs is the way to go or as Avocados mentioned classes where everything is supervised.

DH, after cleaning the dog run, moving the old wooden kennel and gasping at the crap underneath it, and tutting at the woodwormy crumbling state of it, is currently bulidng a new kennel!

BiteyShark · 05/05/2019 17:31

We have spent the day trying to work out how to get the bed lower so BiteyDog can jump up and down from it more easily. Ummm that has ended up with an order for dog steps and a new but much thinner mattress Blush

Melanie I hope your DH is good at diy or CheekyPup will be tutting Grin

Why did my puppy wake up at 5.45 today? I hate BST.

BiteyShark · 06/05/2019 07:03

Ah the joys of early waking.

I can report BiteyDog has turned into a lazy dog now he is on the bed Hmm. He didn't even lift his head when DH went to make a tea. Maybe we should have cracked earlier Grin

OP posts:
AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 06/05/2019 07:20

Because puppies are arses, without exception Wink

No idea what he was like as a puppy, but PestDog believes waking before about 9.30 to be cruel and unusual punishment, so I can only assume it will get better for you too!
