So how do i rehome a dog when we have children?

Just been kept hanging on by a rescue for a week who had said to call them back tonight about a dog, only to find out that they have let another family without children visit and reserve the dog. No other dog on their site has been suitable to live with kids for weeks and weeks. Feeling really disheartened as this will happen every time as they only have one foster family with visiting children to assess the dogs.

Are there any other rescues that rehome to families with kids? Dogs trust and RSPCA seem to be a no.

Starting to see why people end up buying dogs from the internet tbh. Not that it's something I'd ever do.

I adopted my dog from Celia Cross in the summer. I had to do a bit of chasing but it was worth it...I love my boy and the ongoing support is great.

@Jeh45 what chasing did you do? I was thinking of calling them again today.

We're due to drive 2.5hrs tomorrow to meet some dogs that are v calm and great with kids. Fingers crossed!

I emailed and got no response. So kept phoning. I pushed for a date for a home visit rather than them contacting me. I definitely felt I was keener than them but I think in hindsight that's because they want to make sure you are really the right person for one of their dogs. Now I have him, and I am on their member Facebook page I can see how much love, care and attention goes into rehoming the dogs and monitoring them once they have been rehomed. Persevere if there was a dog there you liked.

@Jeh45 just seen that the dog we were interested in last weekend had been rehomed Sad

But we met more dogs today at another rescue!! SmileSmile and I got 'leaned on' by a Lurcher for more cuddles think that's a good thing!! Kids getting into the swing of meeting dogs which is great. This rescue is definitely right for us, long conversations about the dogs who they know very well, and about what we're after.

Oh, that's a shame. But good luck with your new search. Adopting my sweet, gentle sight hound has been the best thing. Let us know the outcome for you.

That sounds great. Looking forward to hearing about your new addition. Sometimes you have to wait (I did) but then the perfect dog that you adore more than you can say lands in your life. Good luck.

@Wolfiefan and @Jeh45 yes I think each Sighthound I meet confirms that they are just gentle loving souls. Who could want anything more than that!!

He's coming home on Sunday, settled with a very calm Greyhound. Literally counting the sleeps and that's me not the kids!

Kennels were getting him from have all fallen for him too, think we've found a good one here. As you all said, it took time, patience, research and lots of phone calls to rescues to work out if they were right for us!

Standby for photos on Sunday! Grin

Our new greyhound, he's already bringing so much joy to our house and he's been here 3.5hrs. Wants to be in the thick of it with the kids, calm, affectionate, walks brilliantly on the lead. My 4yr old DD who was scared of dogs is the most in love with him!

Thank you whoever recommended Celia Cross Greyhound trust they have been fantastic, thorough and pleasant with us all the way through the process. Really excellent.

Thanks to all of you who told us to be patient, you were right, the right best dog came along eventually.

Hope the photo attaches.
