Apologies I just noticed the thread was running out so I am going to repost.

Does she have a cage?
Just wondering if she would benefit from having her own safe place, then dh could put her in the cage when others are there and not listening

You could also use it when she is being over protective, straight into the cage, until she has relaxed.

No idea really , just parroting what I have heard from others about things which help

Soubriquet · 19/01/2019 14:56

Yes she does.
She doesn’t really like it but I think it’s going to have to be the way. They aren’t used to be being shut out of the room so at least in the cage they can still be in the room.

Myranium · 19/01/2019 14:56

Soubriquet you could try joining this FB group and posting for advice, at the very least you should be able to get some suggestions on how to manage things in the immediate future to keep everyone as safe and happy as possible.

Really though it sounds like you need some professional intervention, first the vet (to check for any physical issues which may be causing or exacerbating her behaviour) and then a proper behaviourist.

Myranium · 19/01/2019 14:59

If she's not keen on the crate I'd re-start crate training with her from scratch so she's actually happy in there. Being shut in when she doesn't like it is only going to increase her anxiety levels. The FB group I mentioned has a really good crate training guide here.

Soubriquet · 19/01/2019 15:00

Thank you Myranium

I will join

Oh dear, came down to a big accident in the kitchen. HUge poos everywhere and huge wee.

Fortunately all on the kitchen floor. But he didn't try to wake us, and it is very unexpected and out of character.
He did spend all last evening doing really smelly farts!

I think he has had one too many finds under bushes, he has munched over the last couple of days. Dh said yesterday he definitely had something under a bush. Looks like he has paid for it.

BiteyShark · 20/01/2019 12:05

Oh no poor steppedog. Hope he sticks to dog food for a bit Grin

Squirrel26 · 20/01/2019 12:32

It’s a beautiful day. But SquirrelDog is still away on his sleepover. Sad

But I’m getting him back later this afternoon, and I’m off work tomorrow, and my carpets are clean(er)! Grin

BiteyShark · 20/01/2019 17:30

Hope SquirrelDog is back home and rolling about on your clean carpets.

Anyone have any tips other than a balaclava for stopping my face getting blotchy when out on cold walks. We were back at 11am and my face is still a blotchy red mess Sad

steppemum · 21/01/2019 17:21

I am aways pink cheeked for a couple of hours after walks!

I drape a scarf round my lower face if it is really cold, but I actually get pretty warm walking, as I try and brisk walk to be healthy and to keep up with steppedog so I have to throw the scarf off!

BiteyShark · 21/01/2019 17:30

I am still blotchy today Sad. Will be glad when the temperature improves.

steppemum · 22/01/2019 12:45

I'm seething.
I had a lovely crispy icy walk with steppedog. We walk through a nature reserve. It is in the town, so surrounded by houses, and full of loads of dog walkers. At one end is a big football pitch.
So, several square km of rough grass, woods, mud, people in boots etc.
One field which is mown, marked out for football, and used by loads of kids clubs at the weekend.
The sides of the football field are even rough edges and long grass.

One stupid woman with her dog, walks straight across the football pitch and allowed her dog to poo right by the goal, then it did 2 more poohs right next to the pitch.
She didn't pick any of them up and once he had poohed, she put his lead on and walked back to the houses.

She was too far away to confront, but I walked up to where she had been, just in case I had it wrong. No, there was a huge pile of shit, right by the goalpost.

I ranted in my head all the way home. If you refuse to pick up your pooh then walk your dog in the long grass at the field's edge, or go out onto the rough fields and woods. Not on the one bloody mown football pitch in the whole area, and not on the pitch itself.

If I see her again, I won't be so reserved.

BiteyShark · 22/01/2019 15:40

Some people just don't care do they. I always hope the owner treads in it on another day. We went for a road walk earlier and the amount of poo around was terrible. I ended up having to rinse BiteyDogs paws when we got home as he walked in some of it [boak]

It also annoys me in the forest as I always bury anything I can't pick up (excited sloppy poo) or flick into a bush but lots of people just let them poo right in the middle of walking trails and leave it.

steppemum · 22/01/2019 18:39

I agree Bitey. I confess that in the woods I am not going ot pick up in plastic what would decompose naturally, but only if it is in the undergrowth, or I flick it off the path, not on or near the path, so anti social.

BiteyShark · 22/01/2019 18:59

DH sometimes asks 'why bother when no one else seems to do anything' when I am picking up BiteyDogs poo with sticks to throw in a bush but I point out to him that just because others don't doesn't mean we should contribute to the problem.

I just don't understand why others don't move the poo because surely they risk walking in it next time they come out.

BiteyShark · 22/01/2019 19:07

@Squirrel26 it looks like we may be able to start some scentwork classes next month. Really hoping we like it as it's going to take me around 30-40 mins to drive to the location.

Squirrel26 · 22/01/2019 20:53

Ooh, exciting! I hope Biteydog enjoys it. I know a few people who have got quite addicted and travel miles to trials all over the country, so watch out in case that happens to you!

BiteyShark · 23/01/2019 07:05

It's about a 50 mile round trip so hoping we both like it otherwise it's a lot of petrol each week. Just waiting for confirmation back of class details.

Squirrel26 · 23/01/2019 09:37

Even if you only go to classes for a short time, once you’ve learnt the basics there’s loads you can do at home (I say that, I never get round to any of our ‘homework’ at home. But I’m sure you’re better organised!)

steppemum · 23/01/2019 13:28

Oh you have reminded me I need to get back to the man near me and see if he is doing another course at a time I can go.

BiteyShark · 23/01/2019 13:58

Unlike at agility at least in these classes I won't turn around and find BiteyDog running away to find rabbits Grin

Squirrel26 · 23/01/2019 14:04

Haha. Yes, one advantage is that you can keep ‘em on a lead. However, in summer we sometimes use the agility paddock, and while you can keep them physically close, you can’t force them to concentrate... Grin

BiteyShark · 23/01/2019 20:08

The problem with the agility area is that it's on a farm. Far too many lovely smells and rabbit holes in the far corners. Even worse is that his nemesis, geese, can often be heard close by. I'm actually surprised that we get any concentration Grin

Squirrel26 · 23/01/2019 21:25

Ours is also on a farm...In the field next door there are HORSES! HORSES! Did you know there are HORSES? Also there’s a farm cat and once there was a FOX! A FOX!! One day that fox will be back, and when he is, SquirrelDog will...probably run away. Grin

steppemum · 24/01/2019 11:58

dh has just found me an agility class.
it runs every wednesday - that is a good day for me
it is pay as you go, so you only pay for the sessions you attend - good
it is local - good
it is not expensive £3.50 per session- good

but I have now set my heart on scent training, and just found 2 places which might do it, and both look really good, high quality. One might be local, her address is, but then it says they use forest surroundings, so don't know where that is. The other is 20 minutes drive away.
Both are recommended.
I am waiting to hear back from both.
one is £90 for 6 sessions
The other I'm waiting for a price, but it won't be any cheaper.

I don't have £90, hence the £3.50 agility sessions that dh has found.

But I really want to do the £90 ones.
What will it take to persuade him????
