Apologies I just noticed the thread was running out so I am going to repost.

steppedog is out for the count next to me. It is a great way to exercise him, running round with friend's dog.

He is also a spaniel, and his tummy fur is pathetic, can't possibly be warm. I work on the basis that I am warm at the end of the walk because of the exercise and I am only walking, they are running full speed!

distantdog · 14/12/2018 11:37

Will Bitey wear a coat?

BiteyShark · 14/12/2018 11:43

That's true steppe he doesn't seem to mind but I just worry about him Grin.

distant we tried a coat but he refuses to walk at all. He's like a stubborn mule if you put any kind of clothing on him and he roots himself to the spot Hmm

steppemum · 14/12/2018 11:47

put steppe in a coat and he looks sad and mortified as if you have severely offended him and he might cry! Grin

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 14/12/2018 15:01

Cocodog only wears a coat when it is tipping it down to avoid the worst of the mud and she has a towelling dressing gown to dry off in if we get caught in the rain. She also rocks a christmas hat! The spaniel/collie part of her will go bombing about in any weather but I think her inner poodle secretly relishes her accessories😳

distantdog · 14/12/2018 15:40

Aw cocodog Xmas Grin The towelling dressing gown sounds good - Ddog is quite happy to lie wrapped in a towel as long as she is given treats at the same time to stop her wandering around. She will not come anywhere near the hairdryer unfortunately.

I just asked DH when the snowboots were arriving and he said he hadn't actually ordered them yet as we had to measure her paws by getting her to stand on a piece of paper and drawing round one... given what an absolute fuss she made about us merely trying to do that, it's clearly going to be an absolute nightmare trying to get the boots on her!!

BiteyShark · 14/12/2018 15:44

I had to put one boot on BiteyDog for a few weeks when he went outside after he sliced his paw pad open.

It was a nightmare, he hated it and fought with me every time. He then tried to bite it and then hopped about like his leg was broken.

Sounds like it's going to be similar fun with distantDog when her boots come Grin

distantdog · 14/12/2018 15:54

Yes Bitey... honestly, it was as if my hands had suddenly turned into hot pokers any time I tried to put her paw on the paper! We've given up on the idea of getting her toenails clipped altogether. Actually we decided she could probably do with them right now (we have studs that we stick on our hiking boots at this time of year after all so probably needs her natural crampons!) but our friend's gorgeous and very friendly dog bit her last week after the vet had accidentally cut too much and there was still a lot of bleeding when they got home. My friend tried to put a towel under the dog's paw but the poor thing was just too distressed.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 14/12/2018 21:49

We have bought a bigger crate for BastardPup. He has curled up in the tiniest possible corner of it.

BiteyShark · 15/12/2018 07:14

I bet bastardPup will spread out a bit more when he's used to the space Grin.

DarienGap · 15/12/2018 07:24

Hi all
May I join?
Our dog is a 2 year old beardie. He's gorgeous but we're having a few problems with him.
He won't let anyone come near me, if dh goes to kiss me, put his arm round me etc Gapdog goes nuts and flies at dh, barking etc to make dh back off. I thought it was funny at first but he's started doing it if the kids hug me too.
He's very protective!

Also he's very nervous of everything.

Is it worth contacting a behavioural therapist?

BiteyShark · 15/12/2018 08:30

Welcome DarienGap. If that was me yes I would contact a behaviourist (or a very good trainer). Often vets can recommend someone and hopefully someone will pop up with the creditations you should look for as I can't remember them.

I do have quite a nervous dog and find I am often doing that 'breezy' voice of 'there look at that isn't it good'. What kind of things is he nervous of? Outside I find that if I go and touch the thing he is scared of he might nervously go and investigate afterwards.

BiteyShark · 15/12/2018 08:34

I think this week has taken it out of BiteyDog. 4 daycares (one was the busier daycare), 1-1 training, agility session and we were out last night so he had a dog sitter and whilst he was ok I know he will have been a bit stressed as we don't leave him much in the evening.

He is very very sleepy this morning and isn't even that enthused about playing ball. Given the shit weather I think I might leave him be and just do some indoor training when he finally wants to play.

steppemum · 15/12/2018 08:58

I am jealous that you can have days when you don't need to walk!
Steppedog always needs a run, even if we play with him a lot.

BiteyShark · 15/12/2018 09:13

I know, sometimes I think BiteyDog is broken Grin.

I used to try and do the walking to tire him out but actually found it was just making him worse and it's the mental stimulation he needs. I think it would be different if he never went to daycare as he gets so much physical exercise there especially at the busier one as he runs about with the dogs all day.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 15/12/2018 09:21

Hi Dariengap, what Bitey said...but also may be worth posting a separate thread on the doghouse since there are vets and behaviourists on here who may give you a few tips to be getting on with whilst you find a good trainer. No substitute for 1to 1 help though. Better to sort it out before the behaviour escalates though.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 15/12/2018 09:26

Ha, I am busy with an order for a Monday morning so DH has gone out into the wind and rain with cocodog. I don’t imagine they will go far though.

BiteyShark · 15/12/2018 09:29

I can hear the rain battering against the window. I bet Cocodog and DH comes back rather wet Grin.

I am lying on the spare bed watching tv with BiteyDog curled up fast asleep next to me. Bliss!

fleshmarketclose · 15/12/2018 11:22

Well today is Bella's ninth birthday. I obviously have no idea what happened on previous birthdays but I suspect she's probably have been carrying, birthing or feeding pups on a good few of them. Today the she is getting to celebrate in style. She is very happy with her new toy, she will be getting a freshly cooked and still warm chicken leg for dinner, she did her favourite walk earlier and later older dc, Eric and exh are all coming round to sing happy birthday and have a piece of birthday cake I made for her Grin Can honestly say adopting Bella has been one of the highlights of 2018, she is a fantastic addition to our family.

Happy birthday Bella Cake🎂

steppemum · 15/12/2018 16:20

Oh Bella is SOO cute!

I was just putting on dog walking trousers this morning, when Dh offered, as I have been doing it all week.

So yet again, I got beautiful weather all week, and he got wind and rain Grin

steppedog has been curled up all day asleep since.

His birthday was a couple of weeks agao, and we forgot it Blush but I have just finished making a lovely new fleecy cover for his new bean bag in the lounge, and he already has quite a few things for his Christmas stocking, so I reckon he is getting very spolit.

he loves a rope, and he destroys ropes, so I am always looking for sturdy ropes to play with. Not spending £10 on a rope that just gets chewed up!

BiteyShark · 15/12/2018 17:47

BiteyDog has just had an afternoon nap with me for the past 2 hours and now he's sleeping again. I have one very tired dog.

We were away when BiteyDog had his birthday this year Blush

Squirrel26 · 15/12/2018 18:12

I don’t know when SquirrelDog’s birthday is. I got him around my birthday, so I vaguely count it as his too. It’s just as well he doesn’t know.

I’ve just been trying to teach him to roll over. For a clever dog, he can be extremely dim sometimes. Grin

BiteyShark · 15/12/2018 18:15

Oooo Squirrel hope you have better luck with Roll Over than I have. We were shown by our trainer the technique but he gets very upset and there is no way I can manipulate him as he freaks. I think this is one trick I may have to forget.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 15/12/2018 18:28

Our daycare has noticed that BastardPup's balls have dropped. He hasn't tried to hump anything yet but we are going to have to have him castrated in the new year. Any suggestions as to when and what to do afterwards?
