Where does your dog sleep?

I've had my lovely chihuahua for 6 years he is usually well behaved.

We've just moved into our dream house and I don't want to ruin it with dog piss! He usually sleeps in our room in his bed but the past week he's been going in ds room and pissing in his play tent thing.

Would it be unfair to keep him downstairs from now on?

My new dog sleeps in his crate in the live room.
He chooses to use it even when not asked to.

Can you close your bedroom door and DS’s so he can’t get through?

I can but I worry that I won't hear ds if he wakes up.

My two have beds downstairs in the kitchen and in the living room and upstairs in all the bedrooms.

They spend the first bit of the night on the kids beds with them (despite my best efforts)
Then they come in with us and sleep properly on their beds in our room.

Mine is crated in the kitchen. Never allowed upstairs at all.

Can you put a baby gate across so he can't escape but you can still hear DS.

Mine used to be in the kitchen but now he is older he sleeps in his bed in our room.

He can choose, he has a bed in my room but prefers sleeping at the top of the stairs. If its really hot he sleeps downstairs where its cooler.

I think you probably need to toilet train your dog again rather than just moving the problem downstairs.

Moving house can be unsettling for them and often they can mess indoors.

A baby gate across your sons door would stop the dog entering but still enable you to have the door open.

On my bed. Actually, invariably, it's in my bed, as he considers being under the covers and somewhere near my knees to be the optimum sleeping position, unless he gets too hot in which case he may reposition his face to poke out from under the covers. This does occasionally lead to an unfortunate situation where I am suddenly woken up because the dog had decided to reposition himself by walking over my abdomen, and 7kg of dog walking over your soft bits is not conducive to a restful night's sleep. Thankfully, I have a fully functioning pelvic floor, and my dog is fully house trained, so no one has an accident as a result.

In answer to your actual question, once a dog has peed somewhere it will think that it's an acceptable pee spot unless the smell is removed. Special products are available. Then a bit of back-to-basics house training I think.

Our border collie sleeps downstairs and isn't allowed upstairs.

Our collie sleeps downstairs generally under the dining room table or in his crate with the door open. He’s never gone upstairs voluntarily even though it’s open plan downstairs so he could. Puppy sleeps in his crate with the door shut which gives the collie peace and stops any chewing.

Our dog sleeps in his basket in teen ds room. If downstairs he barks if anyone passes by.

Ours sleep in the kitchen, when we had 1 he did sleep with us but one of our later rescues has significant health issues making stairs a huge no no. Not fair to just leave one downstairs so now they all sleep together. Original dog is so chilled that he doesn't really care tbh

Mdog sleeps in the utility room/kitchen. He's not allowed upstairs.

My 8.5 stones mastiff sleeps in my bed!! Well she thinks it's her bed and we have chats about your side of the bed and mine!!!! She has her own bed as well but she just sits on that!!! She was a rescue and had a terrible life before coming to me so has full run of the house and has never had an accident.
You can get special stuff to get rid of the pee smell that should stop to dog going in the same place. You can also spray the area with vinegar... It's meant to help.

V nice dog beds on the floor in every room.

Ours sleeps on the bed - normally by someone's feet or under the covers! If it's warm he sleeps on the floor by the window.

Our dogs have a bed in our bedroom and have always slept with us.

Mine sleeps in his bed in living room or on the sofa. He sometimes slept on our bed but our 3 month old is in our room and thing the dog was getting annoyed at being woke up...he's likes a good 12 hours sleep on a night (lazy pug!)

Bella isn't allowed upstairs so sleeps in the living room. She has a basket in there but seems to have purloined a particular cushion on the sofa instead.

Crates downstairs - not allowed upstairs.

Both ours sleep in our bed. They think it's their bed
