Bed for new rescue lurcher?

Recently adopted a lurcher and struggling to work out what bed to get. Currently on folded duvet, of course she likes the sofa/armchair more but I think it's partly because she likes to rest her head!? She also stretches out so not sure she would like a snug bed with sides!? Any brainwaves from experienced pointy owners?!

We got some fleece covers that go over a folded duvet for our lurcher. And she liked this - although the sofa was often prefered. However, some years ago I picked up rather a small fabric basket with the firmer sides and padded based - and she seemed to love to fold up small in that, particularly in the winter (although she's currently 'in' that - in that her bottom is in it and her side is over the top and her head is on the padded mat in the window... ). So I bought her a slightly larger fabric bed which is now her main 'basket' - and she definitely loves that, and I've had to buy a 2nd insert for it as she'd flattened the stuffing in the original one!

She has a PetFace one - and the smaller one is a Petface waterproof one.

I was wondering if she will curl up more in the winter. Will have a look at pet face, thank you!

I'm sure there are many other options - they're just the ones that my lurcher seems to choose.

She does curl up more in the winter - but that doesn't mean she doesn't curl up in the summer, and it doesn't stop her roaching on the sofa, taking the whole 3 seats up upside down in the winter either.

Mind you, if there's saluki or whippet in the mix, you might also need to look at getting pyjammas for them in the winter - I have several friends whose dogs wake them up unsettled in colder weather, but sleep through if they're wrapped up in fleecy pjs!

Ours liked a firm sided basket till his arthritis meant he couldn’t get comfy. He now just sprawls in the vague direction of his pile of blankets

I don't know big your lurcher is, but we have a whippet (our second), and we use extra large size padded beds which we sit on the corner of our sofa suite. The bed when seperated just about squeezes into the washing machine in its two parts. Chase liked to, and Bracken now, likes to curl up in them. The one in the pic has a replacement memory foam bed insert that came with Bracken's puppy pack. The original seat was faux fur; this was treated as a substitute lady companion by Chase, and humped and then chewed to oblivion. The other bed we have, which is red jumbo corduroy, has stayed safe. I wonder why...

Mine have giant flat memory foam beds as they like to spread out unless either a) fitting in alongside people on the sofa or b) indicating that they are cold and need their pyjamas

She is quite leggy....saluki/whippet/possible greyhound too! I think pjs in the winter are on the cards. Think she maybe a princess in dog form! Sounds like a big padded bed might be worth a try, we can also put blankets in it. She does roach on the sofa and almost take up the whole thing!

Oh CMot not only do you have awesome collars but fab pjs too! Are your dogs better dressed than you!?

Our greyhound never ever curled up- I don’t think she was able to. Our lurcher didn’t if he had any choice.

Best bed solution we had was cot bed mattress with waterproof mattress protector (or two) and fitted fleecy sheets. It’s cost effective as when it gets stinky you only have to change the sheets.

I've just added a pillow and an extra thick blanket (think princess and the pea!!!!) and she has now decided it's suitable! Whatever I get needs to be super thick and soft....someone has high standards!

Orvis do some lovely dog beds, they are quite expensive but my dog loves his!

I think mine likes the edges of the basket helping with the curling up - and she's a lot bigger than the whippet but has a smaller bed as a result of this! There are plenty of flat out options scattered around the house but she does like the sides (or sofa) for curling up.

Too right my dogs are better dressed than me! I buy my coats from ebay, they get custom made ones - I made this glow in the dark halloween one, and matching christmas coats for my two and our then foster

I don't even have a lurcher and I think that is a brilliant idea. I'm going to try when I move house next month (and have space for it) for my spaniels (who usually sleep on the same bed anyway) - especially since DDaughter has just outgrown her cotbed, so I have mattress, waterproof sheets and fitted sheets all going spare.

I agree it's a great idea, but having had both a dog and baby together, (Chase was 22 months old when DD3 was born), I needed both cot and dog bedding at the same time. Otherwise it sounds ideal.

If we had more space reusing our cotbed mattress would be perfect. I am thinking of something a bit smaller...

You wait until you find yourself moving said mattress (if it’s big enough, our princess would have liked a full single really) round the house so it’s in a patch of sun/ close enough to smell the cooking properly/ in the best spot to gaze at the hoomins...

I am beginning to realise we are now owned by our dog.....

Here are my Lurchers in a rare sleep in the cats beds!
They can curl very small when necessary.

Philpot - the cot mattress is a lot smaller than getting a 2nd sofa...

The groans and looks we get after getting her off the sofa! Big brown eyes make you feel so guilty!!

Rained on her walk tonight and she got wet! Think she may be packing her bags soon!!

She's definitely got greyhound in her, sofa it is then 👍. Awww she's lovely.

Looks like a lot of saluki in that mix!
