Sounds like a fab day for everyone thegirl Grin.

I would love to take BiteyDog to something like that but we haven't mastered the 'don't pull my arm off, not everyone wants to be licked' yet Blush

Bitey, if you have loose lead generally , then try a busy place regularly for short sessions. Cocodog was far from perfect today but we have been doing regular short walks through our local market town getting her used to other dogs on lead, traffic and general mayhem and most importantly walk by other dogs without having to have a meet, some to have a meet and sniff. As I said, she was far from perfect but we managed to have a good day.

BiteyShark · 01/09/2018 19:22

We are getting there with the walk past people so if I set him up close to me then he tends to be ok.

However, with other dogs he seems to be getting worse and even with a perfect fit harness with double lead it hurts when he tries to greet them.

I do need to do more training but there always seems to be something that gets in the way excuses excuses I know

Is the BBQ going yet? You have made me crave a burger or two Grin

OP posts:
thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 01/09/2018 20:02

I am quite surprised, you have said he is submissive with other dogs so I would have thought that might translate to being a bit wary of dogs and therefore quite happy to stay near whilst meeting and greeting and happy to avoid if possible. Perhaps he is like Cocodog and always is up for the possibilty😬
We had a burger at the show so DH did pork medallions with sauté potatoes and courgettes , all on bbq plus peas. Saturday night in spring, summer and autumn is bbq night in DH s book, cant persuade him otherwise so we roll with it and compensate with veggie and fish meals in the week.

BiteyShark · 01/09/2018 20:10

We haven't had the bbq out since getting BiteyDog. Really should have done it this summer.

He's a strange one as he wants to greet dogs when he is onlead but as soon as he does he throws himself into a submissive pose on his back. Off lead he doesn't seem to care about them but that's because I am more interesting as I have a ball Grin.

Same with people, he is very scared and submissive off lead but on lead he thinks he is brave and tries to greet them until they stroke him then he starts cowering submissively.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 01/09/2018 20:47

Maybe he has learnt his behaviour through ball play and is not sure what to do when he doesn’t have his prop? Or maybe it is just in his nature to be reticent.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 01/09/2018 21:21

Took the kids away for a night. Halfway through Day 1 DS1 declares that, despite being in a theme park, he is sad because he misses BastardPup. We FaceTimed him last night. And got the best ever welcome when we got back.

He has chewed a big lump out of the shoe cabinet while we were away though

Squirrel26 · 01/09/2018 22:25

SquirrelDog is being weird even for him.
Asleep on the sofa earlier. Ocado van stops outside the front window. SquirrelDog wakes up, runs to the window, barks and growls.

Thing is, cars and vans are ALWAYS stopping outside the window. We live on a corner of a main route through a village, and a narrow country lane, plus there are always people parked so the main road is only one car wide. The milkman was parked in the exact same place this morning. SquirrelDog never pays any of them any attention, only the bastard cats. Why the sudden dislike of Roy in the Cabbage Van??

BiteyShark · 02/09/2018 06:10

Omg how much snot can one dog produce. I think he is getting worse. Can't decide if the piriton has reduced the swelling so more snotty or whether he is just worse Sad

A blocked snotty nose makes me feel rubbish so he must be feeling bad.

Well I can't work out how she has done it but I came down to Bella looking pleased with herself and not wearing the vet suit! I don't know how she could have done it,poppers still fastened and it's not torn. Thankfully she has left her wound alone though. I've taken the opportunity to wash the suit as it was smelly and poor Bella is wearing an inflatable collar instead and definitely miffed with me now.

BiteyShark · 02/09/2018 11:25

Flesh mine can dismantle vet hard plastic cones Sad

With the medical vest BiteyDog could push him nose all the day down the trouser section. Could Bella have done something like that then struggled her way out of it?

OP posts:
fleshmarketclose · 02/09/2018 13:26

She must have done something like that Bitey. I think I can assume she is feeling much better to attempt it though and have to say she seems very much back to her usual self. What a little devil!
Might have a short walk down Cromford canal this evening seeing as she seems back on form, she loves it there and it's quiet if you go around six.

BiteyShark · 02/09/2018 18:45

Bella is definitely a good escape artist. I would be keeping a close eye on her Grin.

BiteyDog is liking the fact that I have to keep hiding his piriton in yummy things for him Smile.

fleshmarketclose · 02/09/2018 18:58

Lucky Bitey dog, it has to be done though if it's the only way to get medication into him
I made steak pie today and should confess that it was a little light on steak as I cut off a couple of slices and griddled them for Bella Grin I can confirm she likes steak a lot.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 02/09/2018 19:10

Yum, yum says Coco...not particularly interested in runner beans, but DH did kick the football for her a lot whilst picking them

General Dog Chat Part III
BiteyShark · 02/09/2018 19:23

Oooo I love runner beans Grin You sure have a lot of them thegirl. Maybe Cocodog is more a green bean kind of dog Wink

flesh BiteyDog always gets a bit of steak when we have it and I love that he parks his bum really fast on the floor for his prize unlike his normal food when he slowly and reluctantly sits for it

Just reading backwards

BunchOfBastards the greetings when you get back are always the best. Oops about the shoe cupboard Sad

Squirrel maybe squirreldog knew Roy didn't have his favourite treats Grin

OP posts:
thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 02/09/2018 20:18

No, she is definetly a steak kind of dog but is very tolerant of mine and DH s growing green stuff habits😬
Earlier I was boiling some turkey chunks to freeze down for her training treats, put just two raw pieces inside an old sock, tied up in an old tea towel and taped inside a box, much fun and got to treats in about 10 mins.

distantdog · 03/09/2018 10:36

Sorry to pop in with a question just about our Ddog and interrupting the thread...

We were thinking of getting an adaptil diffuser to help Ddog when she is left alone (she's still very clingy). DH is away for 4 days next week and I don't want to be stuck in the house with her 24/7 but don't want to distress her either.

We were also wondering about the possibility of getting her a collar, as she is still very anxious when we have to walk past people on a path (even very gentle, slow people).

Does anyone have any thoughts on these - I think I saw another thread where people were saying that "anti-barking collars" were cruel (we don't have a problem with barking, just wondering if the adaptil anti-stress things fall into the same category)?

BiteyShark · 03/09/2018 10:46

Haven't used them but I think the adaptil diffusers are generally promoted and used.

OP posts:
distantdog · 03/09/2018 11:58

Thanks Bitey - we're going to give the diffuser a go for month and see if it helps.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 03/09/2018 13:54

I may be wrong but I think the adaptil collar you buy via your vet, the diffuser from pet stores. Did you try the thundershirt distant?
Could you set up a couple of friends to meet you out on a couple of walks, stop and chat but not fuss dog but drop her some treats on the ground. She may start to associate people with good things, I would also give treats to visitors to drop for her.

distantdog · 03/09/2018 14:29

We started looking at the thunder shirt when the adaptil things popped up (looking at amazon). DH suggested the collar for walks but having seen something about "anti-barking collars" on a thread here (think it was AIBU rather than the doghouse) I was a bit worried but I guess if vets sell them they're ok? She is getting better bit by bit (just bumped into a couple we know when she was on her own with DH and he said she hid behind his legs but didn't lie flat on the floor trembling as she's done in the past)! We're treating her with a tick pill for the next month and then tick season finishes here until at least May and then the vet suggested a tick collar that lasts 8 months so am wary of getting her yet another collar... plus - on top of the thunder coat - we might get her a winter coat though the vet said probably only necessary when the temperature gets to -15 (that does happen here as we are in the mountains) though I can't see me resisting if I had to take her out at -5 to -10 whilst I'm all bundled up!!

Blooming expensive dogs aren't they?!

Blooming expensive dogs aren't they?!

Oh yes, I have spent a fortune on BiteyDog Grin. It's a good job he's cute.

OP posts:
thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 03/09/2018 18:07

Cocodog hides behind my legs whenever the menace of the woods appears...this is a very boisterous, totally untrained choc lab, even on lead bounces towards us towing her owner along🙄 She is so friendly but Cocodog very much dislikes her and gives warning growls that lab completely ignores. I feel like I am playing avoid the troublemakers at the moment. Roll on the mud and cold, amazing how many disappear then!

distantdog · 03/09/2018 19:35

We feel a bit bad as there's a local dog here who just roams free (quite a few of them do) and in the past he's come to visit us a lot and we've given him a treat (his owners had a restaurant until last year so are fine with him being fed by their clients and locals - we checked). I don't know how old he is but he is looking relatively old now and we've been here 9 years and I noticed last year that he snarled at my 8 year-old DN (who was being clumsy, was fine with everyone else). He came up to Ddog in the first week we had her in the field and was all over her and she was absolutely petrified and when DH tried to shoo him off he was very snarly with DH (and he really likes DH normally). We've shooed him off anytime he came near after that and now he hasn't been up here for a couple of weeks. Feel a bit bad as it's not his fault but Ddog is just about getting used to the local little pups and just can't handle an old grisly mountain dog and I'm wary that he's getting a bit aggressive in his old age.
