thegirl I was just thinking the other day I wonder when I will be back wearing my wellies for the mud Grin

distant don't feel too bad as it's sound like he gets a treat from other locals.

Now can anyone tell me why dogs anal glands couldn't have smelt of something nicer than rotten fish [boak]. Stroking BiteyDog tonight isn't a pleasurable experience.

Ewww Envy - not envy!

I am currently going for a very attractive look of wellies with shorts on my dog walks, because I bloody hate having wet feet when we go through long grass or to the beach.

distant SquirrelDog wore an Adaptil collar for a bit, I just ordered it from wherever on the internet was cheapest at the time because they cost a bloody fortune. I think they're fine because unlike the anti-bark collars they're not aversive - they just quietly exude pheromones and the dog isn't aware of it happening, like wearing a flea collar.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 04/09/2018 07:07

Wet grass in the mornings always catches me out in September too.
Sympathies, Bitey , our old lab used to suffer with both impacted anal glands and itchy ears. Cocodog has got used to me sniffing her ears regularly and cleaning ear wipes. But crossed fingers we haven’t had any problems so far with either end.
After her exciting day out on Saturday and quiet day Sunday , yesterday we met her very best pal out walking and engaged in a big game of chase which ended with terrier cross pal hurling himself into a water trough to cool down. Cocodog looked amazed and horrified, I hope we never need to use hydrotherapy😬

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 04/09/2018 08:52

@distantdog Adaptil collars are absolutely fine as they don't cause the dog any pain or discomfort - they just sit there and release a calming pheromone. Anti bark collars should be avoided like the plague because they do cause pain or discomfort - and thankfully most versions of them are about to become illegal.

distantdog · 04/09/2018 08:58

Thanks Squirrel and Avocado, that's a relief to know - did you find the collars effective?

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 04/09/2018 10:11

Haven't used the collar but the diffuser has shown some results, though it's not a miracle cure. Less luck with the transport spray but that's a more stressful situation anyway.

Squirrel26 · 04/09/2018 10:24

Good question...he’s definitely calmer. Was it the collar? Don’t know. I also had a diffuser, and Xylkene tablets, and just general time passing and us both settling down. I don’t think it was unhelpful, even if there was just a bit of placebo effect (for me). I think it’s worth a try - you can always just take it off.

BiteyShark · 04/09/2018 18:59

Hmmm now is BiteyDog not eating his breakfast, lunch and dinner because the piriton is decreasing his appetite or is he being bloody picky, holding out for something extra yummy because I hide his pills in cheese or bits of chicken

He is eating biscuits but he would pick them over his normal food any day.

I'm thinking it might be a bit of both.

Having to keep an eye on DH as he would be cooking him steak to tempt him if I let him Angry

Bloody BastardPup is going through a barking and nipping stage. He is a git. And the kids are getting wound up and DH is getting wound up and I am getting wound up...

fleshmarketclose · 04/09/2018 22:44

It seems like they are all having their moments. Bella was a pain in the backside last night, wouldn't settle, crying and scratching at the doors. She's been tired all day aren't we all? fingers crossed that tonight is better.

Squirrel26 · 05/09/2018 08:08

I hate it when they won’t settle. It’s deeply un-relaxing.

SquirrelDog was a right pain at scentwork last night, refused to work and had to be removed and kicked out into the paddock to run around. He’s also just pawed at me to get at my coffee, caught my nose with his claw and made it bleed. Angry

BiteyShark · 05/09/2018 08:28

Oh no, must be something in the water Sad

We had food refusal again today but not with his biscuits grrrrr

Back to normal last night so no idea what was wrong the night before. Maybe she heard a fox or something. Glad of some sleep though. Stitches come out on Friday so that will be the end of the spaying episode. She has bounced back pretty quickly tbh and you would never know that she still had stitches in as she is lively and agile as ever.
I'd forgotten that schools are back today so will alter times or end of route tomorrow morning as our lovely quiet stroll that we've done every day since she came finished with dodging hordes of little ones. this mornng

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 05/09/2018 10:52

I feel like the worst dog mum in the world this week. We are all back to work but BastardPup is not loving his outdoor kennel. I put him in this morning (my day off) and went out for an hour. He went in fine but was waiting for me at the grille when I got back - am hoping he hadn't been there all the time and had just heard me come back....

Tomorrow he would normally be in from 8.30 til 10.30 but DH has a sodding meeting so I will have to put him in before 8am.

BiteyShark · 05/09/2018 11:05

Maybe there are just too many things outside to distract BastardPup so he hears noises and thinks it's you coming home. Any chance you could point a camera at the front of it to see whether he is settled or not?

@thegirlsallgrowedupnow Ah we have an excitable 6 month giant puppy who annoys some other dogs to get them to play he’s a pain in the arse and we are dedicatedly working on his social queues by sending him out once a week with the dog walker in a pack walk and this is definitely working as well as putting him in the lead when he doesn’t take no for an answer. This week he has ignored most of the dogs though who don’t want to play and merrily comes with me. There is one poor wee cocker who goes and stands in long grass tho minute he sees him. Luckily for us he doesn’t jump on the other dogs unless given permission or is jumped on. He’s more of a barker but we are getting there. I don’t want to have the ASBO dog 😆.

geekone · 05/09/2018 11:31

That makes him sound terrible, he’s not he’s being trained and can be perfect. But my point is we never meet the annoying dogs because geekpup is more than happy to join in!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 05/09/2018 14:02

geekone,Cocodog was the same up until about 9 months ago, she is 2 and a bit now. It took us a long time to teach/ learn her doggy manners but now she has, she has gone on a bit of a crusade and gets very upset with large, over boisterous adult dogs.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 05/09/2018 14:05

I think SquirrelDog May just have barked so loudly (apparently there’s some kind of terrible monster in the garden...) that he’s set a car alarm off. Blush

BiteyShark · 05/09/2018 20:24

I think there must be lots of monsters about Squirrel as BiteyDog often sits up and growls at them. Especially geese that keep flying over the house. He HATES them. DH said he tried to jump up at them when they flew over whilst he was in the garden Grin

Sneezing has got better phew! Going to drop the piriton dosage tomorrow so hoping his appetite comes back.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 05/09/2018 23:01

Ooh geekone , he’s lovely and just the sort of big pup cocodog would be absolutely fine with, he still has his puppy license doesn’t he? Cocodog is good with almost all dogs but not totally without manners choc lab although has walked intermittently with huge choc lab who she knows well from pup and who still bowls her over but she copes ok . Also copes with boisterous but ok yellow lab friend and loves terrier cross friend and border terrier mate , greets all other dogs with restrained enthusiasm unless they are obviously up for a game.I’m afraid it isn’t the dogs fault if it goes pear shaped...we meet a dog who wears a yellow bandana and the owner always shouts we are on lead and I respond by putting Cocodog on lead until we are safely past. We see a pit bull cross
who is always on lead when they see us and a GSD who always is off lead but under control when around other dogs, etc, etc.And then there are always the out of control adult dogs who are according to their owners just wanting to play but are obviously unmatched in size and power and are often just untrained and under stimulated and the owners who cannot accept that there dog is, for whatever reason, unfriendly, scared of other dogs and are not attempting to deal with it.
You have all this to come, at the mo your pup is a big soppy over friendly so and so, enjoy!

geekone · 06/09/2018 09:19

Thank you I am enjoying and yes still in puppy license stage lol. He learned a bit of a lesson last night playing with a springer spaniel and getting barky with excitement and the other dog just went for him. I don’t think he would really have hurt him but he got a right telling off. I said to him because he understands me completely of course well that’s what you get for barking, he stayed very close to me after that!
