squirrel yes it's definitely Jack with the attitude problem Wink
Bitey I can fully recommend a rescue dog even with the early wake ups.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 02/08/2018 23:45

A JRT with an attitude problem? Totally unheard of Grin

Chapterandverse I just had his bed in the crate. We used a massive crate ( the largest I could find online ) so the bed just went one side of that. I didn't use any pads as I never wanted him to associate any part of the crate with a toilet area so I used to take him out frequently as a puppy even at night to make sure he didn't have any accidents.

I also left some 'safe' toys in the crate so he could play/chew with them.

I think this week has been a bit full on for BiteyDog as he didn't even want to get out of the car yesterday when I picked him up from daycare as he just wanted to lay down and sleep. He seems very very tired.

Think today I am going to just stay in and let him rest as we have a busy weekend with visitors and more agility training coming up.

Thanks Bitey

Crate was a disaster. I put the inside of her bed in it and a bowl of food and a teddy.

She cried as soon as I left the room and got very distressed.

When I went to check, she had pooed all over it (hadn't pooed outside before bed) and was very upset.

I opened the crate and she bolted out and went to curl up in her own bed.

D's said she was awake at 2am but when dh got home at 5am she was asleep and was also asleep (with no accidents) when I got up at 7.

Don't know about the crate now.

BiteyShark · 03/08/2018 08:24

If you want to continue with the crate then I think you might want to look at some guides on crate training to get her used to it and see it as a safe place.

I think because my crate was massive (I have a small working cocker) it helped as he could move about similar to a large play pen and we had an igloo bed inside it so he felt safe curled up and 'hidden'.

I am glad we used a crate as it was a 'safe' place until he was about 1 year old when we got rid of it.

However, some people never crate them so I guess it depends on what you feel works for you.

with the crate, I am pretty sure you start with the door open, so it becomes her bed, and only then, later close the door. I'm sure there is more on-line.

I reminded ds at 9;30 lats night that he had promised to take steppedog out for an evening walk, so they had a walk in the dark Grin
good job he is white!

Soubriquet · 03/08/2018 09:42

This is our crate. The bowl has been changed to a ramekin now as puppy kept walking through the water.

We don't close the door on it now though. Push it to during dinner time so each dog can eat in peace and that's it.

Sometimes she sleeps in it, sometimes she doesn't.

fleshmarketclose · 03/08/2018 10:40

5.29am today! I think she is getting the idea Grin

steppemum · 03/08/2018 14:49

Oh my word what have I done!!

I have a friend with a young lab. We have dog sat for her many times, for this dog and her previous old man, but not since we got steppedog. YL and steppedog have done many walks together where YL wants to play and steppedog mostly ignores her and chases birds, but they do play a bot and get along fine.

YL arrived this morning. dogs, its CHAOS. 2 biggish dogs, both high energy, I don't think they have relaxed since she arrived. They will be exhausted by the end of the day.
I was out earlier and ds said steppdog crept up to his room for a snooze! (YL doesn't go up stairs)

I am just trying to imagine walking them tomorrow. Grin

steppemum · 03/08/2018 15:12

Oh - I sat down at the computer and steppedog has come and pushed himself under my knees - he never does that!
I gave him a cuddle and he's gone off again

BiteyShark · 03/08/2018 17:01

Sounds like steppedog is going to be very very tired tonight Grin

Ooh, cocodog has a couple of young male lab pals. She accepted the rough and tumble in her early days but now we have persuaded , me ,the owners and ,her ,the dogs , that a bit more decorum is required...we all get on famously when we meet in the woods. She also has a male patterdale/border terrier cross that needs no tuition and a female younger border terrier who rules her when we meet. Generally she is polite with all strange dogs and only reacts to rude ones who rush up and bark in her face. I am working on a let’s go command for this!

steppemum · 03/08/2018 21:16

steppedog pinched YL dinner!!!

shut one in kitchen and one in dining room. YL looked at hers and wasn't very hungry. I popped upstairs and came back down to find steppedog was in dining room scoffing YL dinner. There was a LOT still left in the bowl and steppedog hoovered it up before I could get near!

dh took them for a LONG walk this evening, and now both are flaked out.

I gave YL another dinner when they got back!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 03/08/2018 22:02

Well, I suppose steppedog is dog in residence...and if YL wasn’t hungry then what’s a lad to do😬

Squirrel26 · 04/08/2018 09:10

Well, YL needs to learn, you leave your dinner unattended, you miss out. Grin

steppemum · 04/08/2018 09:49

nearly had a repeat with breakfast, no idea how they are opening the door, I think YL must open it, as steppedog never has.

went on our usual walk (which is pretty nice) and YL has had an absolute ball, woods, river, wild fields, river, woods again, river (did I mention the river?)

happy dogs, but blooming heck hard work with 2!

BiteyShark · 04/08/2018 12:42

Oooo maybe YL might be teaching steppedog new tricks with the door Grin.

I think 2 dogs for me is too much work. I don't know how others cope as I would need more Wine.

Just back from seeing family and BiteyDog never stood still. Got home and he's still tearing around. I am waiting for him to flop Hmm

BiteyShark · 04/08/2018 17:40

BiteyDog has finally flopped. Hurrah!

Shame all the sun, fusses and treats have upset his stomach a bit Sad

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 04/08/2018 17:43

We took BastardPup on a different walk today. Managed one quick run off the lead before other dogs appeared and he loved it.

Have booked puppy classes to start at the end of the month, more for the social side than anything else.

BiteyShark · 04/08/2018 17:47

Good luck with the puppy classes BunchOfBastards

How old is BastardPup now?

A Labrador who didn’t fancy her dinner??? That’s no Labrador!! 😄

I’m on holiday at the moment somewhere hot and sunny, staying at a lovely villa with a pool for two weeks, and here I am mooching about on Mumsnet reading dog-related threads because I’m missing my dog 😫 The longest I’ve been away from her previously is a week, it’s been a week now and I’m starting to feel it ☹️

She’ll be fine - she’s staying with people who love her - but .... I MISS HER 😫 I work from home 4 days a week so we’re togeher almost every waking moment. It’s hard being apart Sad

BiteyShark · 04/08/2018 18:11

Oh June I know that feeling Sad. Keep remembering that you will get one massive greeting when you return.

JuneFromBethesda · 04/08/2018 18:16

Thanks Bitey I can’t wait to see her again
