DDog came to his senses and decided that rainy, windy walks were an excellent idea after all. Two hours later, he's snoozing and I'm drying off.

Squirrel26 · 29/07/2018 18:45

SquirrelDog proper hates rain and cold. He is from southern Spain though, to be fair!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 29/07/2018 20:04

Bitey, I don’t know really, she has only not gone for a walk after spaying. I am a bit religious about walking twice daily. My daughter and I have just been to see Mamma Mia so DH was in charge of afternoon walk, he went up the pub with son in law minus dog so I am betting that there was no ball play before her supper. However, she loves our adult children being around and is currently upside down on the sofa having her tummy tickled, so all good😁 To answer your question though, I think terribly bored would be the answer

BiteyShark · 29/07/2018 20:33

I think because we never do the same thing each day BiteyDog doesn't have any expectations regarding exercise so today other than 2 mins in the garden he has been happily entertained with DH flicking the ball about 12 inches away from him which he proceeded to 'catch'.

I think sometimes that SquirrelDog is actually calmer when he gets fewer walks. He’s only had 2 today vs 3 usually because I couldn’t face getting wet again having taken him out twice and then been riding in the pissing rain. He’s just come to lie down on the footstool, which is most unusual (although rather amusingly he is too long, so his bum is hanging over the edge. Grin)

steppemum · 29/07/2018 21:12

thegirl - we walk steppedog every day no matter what the weather. Since we have had him I think there have only been 2 walks he didn't enjoy. It was wet and cold and after an hour (yeah, not 10 minutes, but a whole hour) we trudged home, and at that point he put his head down and headed purposefully for home.
But he is impervious to weather, and high energy and LOVES his walks.

Went to visit the family he will be holidaying with when we are away.
I was sort of going - he is a food thief, and he will need a wee at lunchtime on the day the wife works, and he pull son the lead and his recall isn't great. He looked at me and said - stop worrying, he sounds like a normal dog! They have one lab at the moment and used to have 3, so they are very relaxed. And they have washable floors!
Steppedog got on fine with their dog, so we are all set.

BiteyShark · 29/07/2018 21:16

The only downside to BiteyDog not liking bad weather is I hardly ever get to watch laugh at his spaniel ears taking off in high wind. Keeps me amused for ages Grin

Sounds like steppedog will be having a great holiday.

We've been up on the trails with Eric this evening, Bella has loved it. It's a pretty long walk about three and a half miles but Bella never flagged at all. She's had a late supper and is fast asleep now. Don't expect her to move much now tonight.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 31/07/2018 12:38

Feeling overwhelmed again today with dog and kids. All of us are tired (me and boys been away for two days) boys fighting, 9 year old is being a total PITA and BastardPup is full of beans.

We are into the mouthing, nipping/play biting stage and trying to explain to the kids that jumping about makes it worse is like talking to the wall

BiteyShark · 31/07/2018 13:22

It's hard isn't it when they are young. I seriously hated the puppy months and when he went through his teenager deafness I nearly cracked. It will get better honestly but I think the first year for us was grim. Now I can't imagine life without him although I wish he wouldn't keep dropping his ball on my laptop to get my attention

It's like having another baby - although at least this one sleeps! Constantly worrying that we are doing everything wrong.

Also starting to worry about going back to work. He will be on his own from about half eight to half eleven two days a week, and then in daycare one day. DH has seen an outdoor kennel/run which I think will be best for him on those mornings but we need to order and get him used to it

BiteyShark · 31/07/2018 15:42

I am not against the large outdoor kennels as I know people who use them and they are larger than a lot of peoples kitchens and have the added benefit of an outdoor pee/poo area. My only concern would be noise. My dog can be a pain barking at cats, other people, pigeons etc so you might want to think about whether that would be an issue if you have close neighbours.

I know - the cats will take the piss massively. Hoping he will sleep most of the morning on his own. If he is left in the house he will be on his crate until he learns to stop chewing every single thing he sees-

GooodMythicalMorning · 31/07/2018 20:24

Re chewing mine is better behaved when im out then when he knows im about. Hardly ever chews anything when we are not there.

Soubriquet · 01/08/2018 08:41

The more I look at puppy the more
I think she isn't a white dog. She's albino. She's got a vet appoitment tomorrow for microchippibg so I'll get them have a look

Do you think her nose is too dark to be pink. Hard to tell on pictures sometimes.

If you really suspect that Soubriquet if you haven't done so already get your insurance sorted in case she is susceptible to more health problems.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 01/08/2018 15:42

From the photos it looks like there is a bit of pigmentation in the hair on the top of the head - sort of cream coloured?

Google tells me you need to part the fur and look at the skin - to be a true albino the skin must be pure pink.

However, due to the associated health problems I'd hope that DPup isn't a true albino.

GooodMythicalMorning · 01/08/2018 16:58

I thought the actual eyes would be pinkier for albino but I could be wrong.

BiteyShark · 01/08/2018 20:03

I have one very tired dog. He's done agility today and been at daycare where I know he's been playing with a young lab all day. I doubt I will hear from him again tonight as he's flat out on the bed.

Bella will soon have been here a fortnight and tbh it feels like she has always been here. We are making slow and steady progress I think. She has free run of downstairs and I am 90% certain that she won't go upstairs now so that's a huge improvement on her running up at every opportunity. She is on two meals a day now rather than the grazing she used to do, eats them all up and has put on a little bit of weight because she was too thin. Her and Eric is a work in progress, there is no nastiness but Eric needs to learn better when Bella has had enough. It's better when we walk them together than when they are here together as there are more distractions then. Out and about she's met a couple of dogs who she is happy to see and play with and seems to share a loathing with Eric of Jack the JR over the road Hmm Mornings are still early although 5.20am today when she got up is her personal best.Hard to believe she is coming up for nine though as she loves her walks and has lots of energy. She is a lovely little dog and feel very lucky to have her. Groomers next week and the vets to talk about getting her speyed so we will see how she gets on then.

Squirrel26 · 02/08/2018 15:18

I feel like the problem here is likely to be Jack the JR, not Eric and Bella. Grin

BiteyShark · 02/08/2018 16:43

flesh sounds like you and Bella are doing great Grin

Bless her. She really does treat her like her puppy. If puppy whimpers in her sleep, Madam has to go and comfort her. It's so cute. These two have an absolute perfect bond. Even to the point of sharing treats

Last night was the first night with our new puppy.

She's a shih tzu. There's dh, me and two teens in the house so she's well catered for!

She came from a friend of mine whose dogs had a litter so we've known her literally from she was born and have been visiting until we brought her home.

She has been used to sleeping in a crate with her parents and siblings at night and then in a bed with them through the day, so we had no bother getting her into her bed last night. In fact she put herself into bed!

Her crate only arrived today so she was in her bed in the kitchen last night and pooed once. It was between 2am and 4.30am. Dd checked and took her outside at 2am but when dh came home from night shift she had pooed. That was 4.30am.

She has been good all day weeing outside.

This is the first time I've had a crate- can anyone tell me what needs to go in there? At the minute i have a pad and a spare blanket.

We last had a puppy 12 years ago (she passed away at the start of the year) so i might have a lot of stupid questions.

So far so good, she didn't make a sound last night and is a very laid back contented little pet. Will try post a pic later.

I've read this thread all day and I look forward to learning from you guys Flowers
