Well big leaps today! Bella has met Eric and contrary to all warnings she was calm and and relaxed with him. We walked getting closer and closer and they greeted each other nicely and we let them run together for a short while. Lots of nice playing no stress both happy. I'm pretty sure Bella will be the boss but I expected it with Eric's submissive nature. Will bring Eric here at the weekend but don't expect any problems will move toys and no treats just so there is nothing to argue over.
I've been taking Bella out regularly for a wee because I didn't know whether or how she would let me know. Anyway was sitting quietly when Bella started barking as though someone was at the door but instead of running to the door like she does she was running in circles. Opened the back door and out she went. Pretty dramatic compared to Eric's single yip at the door but at least I know I won't miss her cue anyway.
She has now got a reliable sit as well so feeling pretty chuffed with her progress it will make the 4am wake up seem not so bad hopefully.

BiteyShark · 25/07/2018 20:16

flesh that is good news all round. Glad Bella and Erics meeting went well.

BiteyDog is being annoying. He keeps running away with his ball outside as he is worried we will take it from him. I go inside as I can't play with him unless he drops it. He then comes inside and drops it by my feet. We go outside and I throw it and he is happy but then runs off again in case we take it off him. I go inside, he then comes in and drops it. This is repeated frequently. He is toooo stupid to realise that if he dropped it outside I would continue to play. Honestly it's a good job he is cute Grin or maybe this is his new game of get the human to keep going inside and then back outside and I am the stupid one

fleshmarketclose · 25/07/2018 20:21

We have two balls on the go with Eric because he doesn't always want to drop it but does if he sees the second one. Could you try two?

BiteyShark · 25/07/2018 20:29

flesh we always had two on the go at the same time for that very reason. However, the past day he has been running off with one of them and trying to hide. I dropped down to one ball because it was just frustrating to hold the other or throw it whilst he looked on Confused.

I think he is just having a 'moody' change of behaviour and really really wants us to play with the ball but equally wants to keep it himself. When I stop playing he drops the ball but only when I have come inside and he has reluctantly followed me in. Then he runs outside wanting to play again when I pick it up. wish he would make his mind up

BastardPup has started on the house wrecking stage, but in a very gentle and subtle way. He's chewed the fake leather off the box we keep shoes in and has started on the wall....meanwhile I have first week of the holidays exhaustion and am struggling with not going out as much as I would usually - just to nip to town or go somewhere for the day. Might attempt the park this morning: either ten minutes walk (twenty at pup-pace) or a car ride to the bigger one

BiteyShark · 26/07/2018 09:04

My parents old dog used to chew the wall. Very fortunate that BiteyDog never seemed that bothered about chewing other than the odd door mat which was easily replaced. A wall isn't quite as easy to sort out Sad

So Dh had a surprise for me last night.....

We get to do the whole puppy phase all over again Grin

Madam is over the moon with "her" puppy and keeps trying to get her to play.

They have had a few play sessions but puppy is a bit too little for the overexcited play madam wants.

Madam seems huge next to this little one.

He has called her Gypsy. A name I have to get use to

She has the cutest little chocolate covered nose

She's a chihuahua like madam is but I've got a feeling she's going to be a smaller one

Soubriquet you sound pleased with the surprise so I assume a second dog was always on the cards Grin

I think I would kill DH if he did that but then we both wouldnt cope with a second one as BiteyDog is enough of a handful Smile.

Could you sneakily change the name by giving her a nickname if you really hate it?

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 27/07/2018 10:01

I've been saying for ages that madam needs a friend. She always wants to play with other dogs but doesn't have the confidence sometimes but Dh was adamant we was not having another dog and one was enough.

So it was a nice surprise when he bought this one home.

And I can't really think of another nick name.

I really liked Luna but as Lexa is sometimes called looby Lou, lulu and by Dh loobylicious, he felt Luna couldn't be used as it was too similar

BiteyShark · 27/07/2018 10:06

Double trouble from now on then Grin

It's so funny isn't it with names as we call ours a variety. At the moment my favourite is 'wiggles' because he can't stop wiggling his bum when he wags his tail.

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 27/07/2018 10:09

Definitely double trouble

Madam won't leave her alone and keeps showing her bum off trying to play. Doesn't understand little one needs to sleep.

It's going to be manic when little one does get big enough to play

GooodMythicalMorning · 27/07/2018 11:27

Aw so cute! We nearly got another bully but as we want to move in the near future we thought it wasn't the right time.

BiteyShark · 27/07/2018 11:42

I know we will get another dog when hate to even think he won't be here we don't have BiteyDog as the house is really not a home without him. However, given the costs of daycare, insurance, food etc would double let alone trying to train a puppy alongside an adult is enough to put me off having two at a time. I just don't have the mental or physical energy for that but then BiteyDog wasn't an easy puppy.

Talking of which looks like he has cracked the side of a claw. Just managed to remove the bit that was dangling off but he won't stay still long enough to file it down.

OP posts:
fleshmarketclose · 27/07/2018 11:47

Oh she is so sweet but I don't envy the puppy days soubriquet
A better night last night with Bella, still woke at four but quickly gave in and I assume went back to sleep and got up again just before six. Maybe she will get the idea after all. Got back from her walk this morning just as the first drops of rain from what was a heavy thunderstorm started. Met a staffy on our walk today who Bella played with nicely so maybe she doesn't dislike dogs as much as I was told. Lots of positives and only tried going upstairs once yesterday in spite of the doors being left open.

Soubriquet · 27/07/2018 11:52

I am already hating the puppy stage Grin

This one is stubborn. I keep taking her outside but she hasn't been yet. She has weed on the laminate so I can't get too cross about that. Going to buy some spray today to put on the floor to stop the smell though.

BiteyShark · 27/07/2018 15:26

I need danger money. BiteyDog clearly doesn't think anything of launching himself at the flies in the room even though my head is between him and them Shock

OP posts:
BiteyShark · 27/07/2018 16:03

flesh maybe Bella was more reactive as she was in a highly stressed environment or some other external factors was at play so you are seeing a different side of her.

Soubriquet you are bringing back all those puppy day memories shudders Grin

Soubriquet · 27/07/2018 21:20

Yeah....rose tinted glasses and all that..

She sleeps a lot. I forget how much they sleep. Poor madam keeps wondering why her game stops after a couple of minutes.

Little sod though managed to fly out the front door and leg it across the road to have a go at someone's jack Russell.

She's been dying to have a go, this is the first time she saw ever had the opportunity and it's like she was even more protective than normal.

Luckily the couple with the dog were ok about it. I couldn't stop apologising.

There was me running across the road barefoot in my nightgown, with a tiny puppy in one hand, shouting bloody murder at the other dog. Had to grab her by the scruff of her neck and pick her up that way.

I'm surprised no one called the police I looked like a loony

bluetongue · 27/07/2018 23:19

Puppy!!! So cute Soubriquet Smile I’d love another pup but sadly constraints on time and money mean it won’t be happening any time soon. Plus I live by myself so it’s a big task.

Bluepuppy will survive despite dripping blood all over the house the other day. Eat said he could try putting a stitch in his ear or bandaging his ear to his head but that it wasn’t really warranted when it was only a small rip. He also said that dogs usually only get proper rips / wounds on their ears from proper scuffles / fights with other dogs. Not sure if this True for whippets as their skin is pretty fragile and they run so fast that they get injured easily.

I texted his current daycare to ask if he’s ever been in a fight and they said no. Surely they wouldn’t want to keep on a dog that was getting into fights?

Anyway, however it’s happening his ears are getting damaged with the current setup so he’s booked into another daycare that he goes to sometimes for next week. I’m strangely a bit upset about his slightly ragged ears but I’m sure I’ll get over it.

On top of that, his dog sitter is not getting back to me about holiday plans. Why does everything have to be so hard Sad

Wolfiefan · 27/07/2018 23:22

Oh no Blue. That all sounds really stressful.
I'm puppy broody. Blush I actually hated the puppy stage but I may have a friend in the breed who might have a litter of pups in the not too distant future. And wolfhounds don't live long. And it'll break me when she goes.
Give me a shake. Blush

BiteyShark · 28/07/2018 06:02

blue I am sure his raggedy ears will soon be a cute trademark for bluepuppy. It's awful though when you worry about them at daycare. My usual setup is great but trialing a backup soon when she goes on holiday and it sounds similar to yours in that it's a large facility and I know I will be worried all day.

Wolfie here is your shake. Whilst you may survive the second puppy stage and everything turns out well just think of the logistics if it isn't plain sailing. What if they don't get along and need separating for ages, seperate sleeping or eating. Training will have to be seperate for the puppy. What if one or both develop some issue (resource guarding/reactive etc) and they need constant close training. I feel exhausted just thinking about it. To be honest I am someone who always thinks about the possible cons and whether I would cope with them. Sometimes I wish I could be like others who just think about the first scenario and go ahead anyway but knowing my luck there would definitely be 'issues' plus I am not sure I could afford the wine to get me through it Grin

fleshmarketclose · 28/07/2018 07:06

Aww poor blue puppy hope his ear heals quickly. Wolfie you are far braver than me, I still feel traumatised thinking about Eric as a puppy. Bitey yes I suppose it could have been the stress that made her different at her previous home. She will be put to the test today as Eric is visiting her here. Had another meet up on the walk yesterday that went brilliantly so fingers crossed it should be ok anyway.
In other news today's wake up call was 5.30 which is just about respectable although I still waited until 6am. Hard to believe she has only been here a week really as she has fit in so well.

BiteyShark · 28/07/2018 07:15

Hope the visit goes well flesh

steppemum · 28/07/2018 07:27

Grin at soubriquet with a dog under each arm.

She is CUTE though - you'll forgive her anything you know you will!

dd tells me it rained hard last night, but at 6 am, when I went out it was just very slightly damp, don't know where all the water went!

flesh - steppedog had some behaviours in foster that melted away within days. he was fostered with a lot of other dogs, and, now that I know him, I can see he is supersubmissive and unsure of himself round lots of dogs, especially groups of dogs. Now he is 1:2:1 with us, his confidence has grown loads and he behaviour with other dogs has changed (not always for the better in our case Grin).
So I am not surprised that Bella isn't the same as she was in foster care.

Soubriquet · 28/07/2018 08:51

Good lord what have I done!!

They are not just double trouble but times that by 100.

They are constantly playing. Whilst that sounds sweet, it's pita because puppy is not resting enough and we have to watch where we step!

Bless em Hmm
