BastardPup is not liking this heat. Nor am I. I can feel myself channelling Peter Kay - ooh, it's sticky, this heat. There's no air.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 23/07/2018 14:19

I would have thought that you could see something too. I had the opposite confusion. My neutered rescue dog suddenly had a couple of lumps in the same location. Having started to Google about retained testicles in dogs, I posted a picture of my unfortunate dog's genitals to a facebook group and swiftly learned about bulbus glands Blush

BiteyShark · 23/07/2018 14:32

Avocados yes I had to google bulbous glands as I was concerned at one point Grin

I'd say he'd been neutered.

It is so hot! Quite enjoying that Bella just wants to chill for the rest of the day after her first walk tbh. We are working on basic commands because she doesn't ever reliably sit, wait or lie down.
Question at her previous home she grazed on dry food all day without a regular mealtime. I'm not keen on having food hanging around all day, added to which she is underweight so I want to know how much she is eating, so I'm currently dividing up her food into three and putting it down three times a day for twenty minutes. She eats better morning and evening (barely looks at lunchtime so I've been adding it to evening meal) so do you think it would be too soon to swap to two meals a day?

BiteyShark · 23/07/2018 18:47

flesh if you want her to put weight on keeping to three meals for the moment might be best. BiteyDog isn't a morning eater so we do less in the morning and bigger meals at lunch and dinner.

BunchOfBastards yes I am fed up of the heat now. Fortunately BiteyDog gets taken to rivers to swim around in at daycare so he's happy Grin

Flesh, if she isn’t a particularly good eater would it help to mix a little wet food on top of her dry food to make it more enticing. Cocodog always wolfs down her evening dry food but likes to have a bit of tinned fish or cooked white fish mixed in to her morning meal. Perhaps she feels it sets her up for the day😁

fleshmarketclose · 23/07/2018 20:13

She doesn't like wet dog food according to previous owner so I have been adding beef from the roast. Tbf she has been eating all her breakfast and dinner (even with the lunch portion added to it) so she is eating the recommended amount then the beef on top and treats for teaching her commands so hopefully she will put on a bit of weight at that. Not quite sure why she is thin really as she is pretty enthusiastic when the food goes down. Have booked a health check at the vets just in case there is an underlying reason.
She is such a poppet, she's been no trouble at all just slotted in here. Not noticed her bothered by dogs out and about either, yes she's not shown any desire to go to them but she doesn't react when they cross her path even really close Will engineer a meet/walk with Eric midweek but feeling optimistic so far anyway.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 23/07/2018 20:20

WRT to taking her to the vets, have you sorted out insurance yet? If so is there the usual two week exclusion period where anything that crops up in the first two weeks of cover is excluded?

If so, and if there's nothing pressing she needs to see the vet for, I'd be waiting a fortnight, truth be told. Didn't she have a vet check when she was in rescue?

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 23/07/2018 20:51

Far from being more chilled out during this hot weather, Coco is quite fidgety in the evenings when its cooler and not settling down as usual. I wonder if it is because overall she is moving around less during the day or is it just the longer daylight hours. Anyone else finding this?

fleshmarketclose · 23/07/2018 21:00

Yes she was seen when she was first given up so about four weeks ago, she was vaccinated, flea treated and wormed then as well. I will wait a fortnight, never thought about the insurance thing. I'm probably worrying for no reason, she seems pretty delicate when I'm used to Eric who although small is pretty strong and hardy.

BiteyShark · 23/07/2018 21:15

thegirl I think they do adapt to the heat so move less in the day and perk up at night. We have certainly had our moments when it was first hot but BiteyDog seems to have adapted and now runs around like an idiot in the sun which means he crashes out at night.

Poor UK dogs in the heat. Hope it cools down soon for everyone.

Well I didn’t get a chance to ask daycare about Bluepuppy’s ear as he has come inside after a wee this morning with blood all over his head Sad He’s dripping blood on the floor so it’s off to the vet this morning before work. Sigh. Pretty sure he’ll be fine but daycare is out of the question.

BiteyShark · 23/07/2018 23:09

Oh blue hope it isn't anything serious with bluepuppy Sad

OP posts:
bluetongue · 23/07/2018 23:33

To be honest I think this vet visit is more to make me feel better than him. Not even sure there is much they can do, it’s just that ear tips bleed so much. If it wasn’t a work day it wouldn’t be so bad. Thank god for Flexi time!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 24/07/2018 06:46

Thanks blue for your concern. I think you are probably better set up to cope with the heat of your summer than us Brits with our rickety fans which we drag out of the loft on the rare occasions we get a super hot summer😁

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 24/07/2018 06:46

Posted too soon. Hope bluepup is ok.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 24/07/2018 07:37

Well BastardPup is in the doghouse. He didn't fancy going out in the rain and dropped a turd on the doormat while DH was feeding the cats.

I was still in bed so can't really complain though

steppemum · 24/07/2018 08:01

rain????
rain???

where was the rain???

(completely misses point of YoureAll's post!)

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 24/07/2018 08:05

Definitely rain here in the North. It has stopped but the air is cooler.

Shame some twat is off to London in the frigging heatwave this afternoon....

BiteyShark · 24/07/2018 08:06

No rain here [cries].

I think it's affecting me more than the dog.

blue I am so glad my work is flexible as well but I am going to have to look for back up for daycare when my daycare person goes on holiday. Going to ring around a few places today and see if I can book him in when she is next off so I don't have to panic about working at home for long periods.

BunchOfBastards BiteyDog as a youngster once looked straight at me whilst peeing on the rug as he didn't fancy going out in the rain Angry

BiteyShark · 24/07/2018 11:01

Phew I have backup daycare sorted for later in the year which is a relief. I just hope he copes with the backup one as I suspect it may be a bit stressful for him thinking I am leaving him with strangers Sad

steppemum · 25/07/2018 08:25

I feel your pain Bitey.
We have found a dog sitter for Steppedog, for when we are on holiday - just over 2 weeks overseas, but Steppedog has never met them, and I think he is going to feel abandoned Sad

We are going over to meet them this weekend, and I'll try and arrange another meet and walk with them as well, but I am away for work the week before we go away, and I have the car, so dh can't get over there.

BiteyShark · 25/07/2018 08:37

It's horrible isn't it when you can't actually say we will be back to get them Sad
