My best friend decided not to wake up

I'm devastated. My sweetest little guy. My best friend for nearly eight years decided he'd had enough and decided not to wake up. I'm so very heart broken. I can't see a way forward. Please tell me it will get better.

What an awful shock for you. I’m so sorry. Flowers

ultrababy · 12/06/2018 16:33

I just can't believe it. I knew something wasn't right since around March as he had become incontinent at night. I could see him slowing down but I didn't think we were at that stage yet.

So sorry for you, can imagine how heartbreaking this must be for you as I love my dogs so much. Take care of yourself x

InMemoryOfSleep · 12/06/2018 16:36

Oh I’m so sorry @ultrababy, what an awful shock for you. But for your dear little friend, he probably couldn’t have asked for a better way to go - falling asleep knowing he is safe and warm and loved. I hope that thought gives you a bit of comfort Flowers

ultrababy · 12/06/2018 16:36

He was such a sweet dog. Never growled in his life. Loved being part of a family. So loved by everyone. He's now buried in the field next to the chicken run as he loved to run up to the fence and sniff them. Even they tolerated him.

I'm so sorry ultra, that sounds awful. Flowers

ultrababy · 12/06/2018 16:37

That's exactly what I'm trying to take comfort in. He was so selfless he even took the decision out of my hand and made it as easy as possible for me.
Sleep tight my sweet sweet boy

SleepIsForTheWeek · 12/06/2018 16:39

I'm so sorry Ultra, these sweet creatures don't spend nearly as long with us as they should. Treasure your memories [flower]

twinnywinny14 · 12/06/2018 16:39

Oh do tell us more about him if you want to, it’s is always sad and the more special they were the more it hurts when they go. As a pp said he sounds like he had a wonderful life with you and went in the best place where he was happy and calm and very much loved, I wish that for any animal x

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 12/06/2018 16:40

I promise it will get better, but it hurts so bad. I know.

Sometimes I think we just have to be grateful for the little things - that it didn't get that bad and you didn't have to make any difficult decisions.

He's at peace now - playing on the rainbow bridge.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

Scoopofchaff · 12/06/2018 16:42

I'm so sorry for your lost Ultrababy. It sounds like he was such a lovely dog!

I'm sorry you had such a shock but as a pp said, you gave him a loving home and he died safe and sound in his own bed and peacefully in his sleep. I know it won't seem like it now, and you must still feel devastated,, but that's not a bad way to go Flowers

It will be very hard; but it will get better Flowers

ultrababy · 12/06/2018 16:44

I had him from eight weeks old. From the start it was him and me. Always together. Then I met my DP and his children and they fell in love with him. He paved the way for the children wanting me to move in on the proviso I brought him 😀.
He loved being part of a family and went from only being allowed in the kitchen to sleeping on their beds in about a month.
I have to get used to people not remembering me now as everyone knew me as his mum 😀

So sorry for your loss Flowers

From the way you write about it him, it's so very obvious how much he was loved and what a wonderful life you gave him. That's what every dog wants. He was a lucky boy.

Take care.

KinkyAfro · 12/06/2018 18:51

ultrababy · 12/06/2018 20:17

Thank you so much everyone. It really helps to know that other people love their dogs as much as I did. He leaves such a huge gap in our lives.
