My best friend decided not to wake up

I'm devastated. My sweetest little guy. My best friend for nearly eight years decided he'd had enough and decided not to wake up. I'm so very heart broken. I can't see a way forward. Please tell me it will get better.

When my dog passes (hopefully not for a long time) I already know it will be devastating. Absolutely devastating. It is proper grief and raises all the challenges one would expect with the grief process.

That is one ADORABLE doggy.

That was taken just last month. He still looks just like he did when he was a puppy. How is all this possible?

So sorry OP, what a gorgeous boy.

RheToric · 12/06/2018 20:31

I forced myself to get another dog very shortly after my doggy soul mate passed. Nothing like Ellie. As different as I could bear.

I'm so very glad I did. It was right for me, but appreciate it might not be for everyone.Flowers

So very sorry for your loss. He was so very lucky for you to be his human.

aaarrrggghhhh · 12/06/2018 20:33

He looks absolutely precious

What a beautiful boy. I'm so sorry for your loss, your love for him is evident in your writing.

Rest in peace Doggy xxx

Chanelprincess · 12/06/2018 20:38

Sending you a big hug.The pain's unbearable but it will get better in time. He was such a gorgeous boy and very lucky to be so loved. You will feel able to get another dog, but you'll never stop missing him.

JoyceDivision · 12/06/2018 20:41

Ultra he's beautiful.

Please don't think about another dog yet, although your bestie has passed away, he will still occupy a huge part of your family, don't rush to fill a space that won't yet be created xxx

Frenchiemamax · 12/06/2018 20:41

So sorry OP. It’s absolutely on the same scale as losing a family member and I dread the day my three babies leave for rainbow bridge. Thinking of you xx

vampirethriller · 12/06/2018 20:45

So very sorry. He was absolutely gorgeous and was obviously so loved. They are not here for long enough.

Lizzy1980 · 19/06/2018 06:43

Hi Ultrababy
I'm so, so sorry for your loss. Anyone who has ever loved a dog will understand the way you are feeling now.
Take comfort in the fact that he went peacefully in his sleep, at home with the ones who loved and looked after him.
I had to have my very old dog put to sleep a few years ago and it broke my heart. Although I knew that I was doing the best and kindest thing for her it didn't stop me feeling guilty and disloyal to someone who had shown me nothing but loyalty for 14 years.
I vowed to never get another dog as I could not cope with going through it all over again but as time passed I realised that my house felt empty and no longer felt like a proper home. Take your time to grieve and maybe in time you will feel ready to welcome another friend into your home. You will always love your dog but that doesn't mean you can't love another too. It will just be different.
I've just added a comment on another thread about supporting people after the loss of a pet. Maybe you could have a look if you feel up to it.
Look after yourself, your pain will ease in time, I promise xxx

I'm so sorry, I lost my girl suddenly at just sixx years old in January, she just went out into the garden and didn't come back. Take it easy and don't be afraid to talk about him and cry, I think the shock is only just starting to wear off now and I'm beginning to grieve. We are all here to listen to you x

ThespianTendencies · 21/06/2018 07:30

ultrababy - waht a shock! It must be so hard for you. He looks like the most beautiful dog, full of character. I think it is incredible how much joy they bring and how much love they allow us to feel. I expect it was well and truly reciprocated from your boy. I hope you seek solace in the fact he died peacefully at home where he felt most loved and that you did nt have to make the most difficult of decisions. Flowers

This came up on my Facebook page yesterday. Taken four years ago. Now that's what I call a smile isn't it? I miss him so much. I was doing ok until yesterday when I took my mum up to our fields and could see his grave has been disturbed. I feel physically sick. I had to send my DP up to check it. I have no idea if the worst has happened and he's been taken. I can't even begin to think about it.
