This will either depress me or will make me feel less alone haha...
I've been getting up between 5/6am for over two months now, with zero lie in, weekends, bank holidays etc etc and it's starting to take its toll :(
I don't mind the normal weekdays as much but the weekends and bank holidays are a killer.
Have to get up as the pup needs the toilet and then wants feeding.

I would LOVE to get up at 7

At least he sleeps through the night now without any fuss, that's took some time as well but we got there in the end :)

He goes to bed when we do and gets up when we do, whatever times those are!
Normally 11-7ish I guess but will go earlier or get up later if necessary.
He’s 7 though.

Notmybuilderdotcom · 28/05/2018 15:41

One of mine gets up about 5am to go for a wee then will go back to bed for an hour. The other one will happily stay in bed until I force him to get up for breakfast so usually about 7am. They go to bed when I do between 9-10:30pm. I don’t think the bedtimes make any difference with mine, they just have different sleep patterns I think

BiteyShark · 28/05/2018 15:44

Mine sleeps from around 7pm but he is alert from 4am and waits until the alarm goes off at 5am. At the weekend I let him out for a pee/poo at 5 then he sleeps until we get up around 6:30-7am.

MadisonAvenue · 28/05/2018 15:45

I get up at 6 to walk him, so obviously that's when he gets up too but on the rare occasion that I don't get up then (if it's raining or I have to go out and plan on walking him when I get back) he still wakes and either sits and stares at me or lies on top of me - and he's not small, he's a Collie x GSD Grin

Should add though that after I get up at 6, he then stays in bed until he hears me open the hall cupboard to get my boots!

Jenny70 · 28/05/2018 15:47

My DH wakes about 5am to go cycling, and the dog barely acknowledges him - certainly won't get out of bed for him. By 6-7am she's happy to be up and about with the family.

In the evenings, she tends to curl up with us while we watch TV, but she actually goes to her bed about 11pm.

GinGeum · 28/05/2018 15:55

They go to bed whenever we do, half 9ish? I’ve no idea what time they wake up, but they stay on their beds quietly until they hear us talking upstairs, and then you can hear them get up and stand by the door to greet us. That can be any time from 5am - 8am. This is fairly recent with the second dog though, she’s 6 but a rescue, and when she first arrived she woke up with the sun and manically scratched the door until we went down. She did have separation anxiety at first though which is calming down now.

imnottoofussed · 28/05/2018 16:05

Ddog 8 likes to be in bed by 10pm or earlier, he'll just go and get in it when he is ready. He also likes a lie in. When we get up early on weekdays he takes his time to wake up and will go out in the garden and back to bed again. Weekends if we get up later he will still be sleeping and again will gradually wake up and go out.

Not sure I could cope with a dog waking me up to go out Confused

ThisMorningWentBadly · 28/05/2018 17:05

She goes to bed when I do (about 10:30) and gets up with the first person up which is usuall before 7:15. It took us several months to get to this point though.

Tinkobell · 28/05/2018 18:07

Puppy at 13 weeks old. 10pm - 6am. We're a bit knackered too!

ButFirstTea · 28/05/2018 18:12

Ours snoozes all evening but we put him to bed (in his pen/crate) whenever we go to bed, between 11 and 12 usually. He sleeps until we get up, about 6-6.30 on a work day and 8.30ish on a weekend.

resignedtoresigning · 28/05/2018 18:18

Around 5.30am most days, patrolling the bedroom flapping her ears and commando crawling across the carpet for attention! If it's in the week we get up with her as alarm goes off at 6 anyway. Weekend one of us will silently take her downstairs and let her out for a wee then attempt to go back to bed...sometimes it works and we'll get another hour, sometimes not! She goes to bed whenever we go.

Tiredofit · 28/05/2018 19:46

Ddog2 asks to go to bed about 10ish so I take them out and then settle them. They normally sleep until I go downstairs about 7:30 when I let them out and make a cup of tea which I take back to bed until 8:15 during the week or 9:00 at the weekend. They just go back to bed although, with this nice weather, I've been leaving the back door open so that they can wander in and out if they want to.

Floralnomad · 28/05/2018 19:49

Since he was about 1 mine has had his last wee between 10-11 pm and he generally gets out of bed when the alarm goes off or if he hears someone else get up but then he just comes downstairs and goes back to sleep . First wee can be anytime between 7-10 .

VioletCharlotte · 28/05/2018 19:53

Mine gets up when I do and goes to bed when I do. So normally up between 6 and 7 and bed between 10 and 11. But if I do have a lie in til a bit later he's perfectly happy.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 28/05/2018 20:46

Ours often asks to go to bed around 10.15 pm. DH goes to work four days a week at 6.30 am so cocodog is up and bringing me a cup of tea early and then snuggles back with me until I am ready to get up. The other three days we all get up together at 7 ish.

geekone · 28/05/2018 20:47

My puppy 14 weeks goes to bed at 10 I have been getting up at 6 or 6.30 to let him out for a wee then putting him back to bed and he actually can't be arsed so tomorrow I am just going to get him up at 7 when we do and at 7.30 at the weekend when we do too. Starting tonight 🙌

ScreamingValenta · 28/05/2018 20:49

He gets up when we get up and goes to sleep when we go to sleep (plus having lots of naps during the day). He's 12, so he's used to our routine.

Joan90 · 28/05/2018 21:14

Bed at 8 pm. Sleeps through til 7.00 am. Bladder like a tanker our dog.

adaline · 28/05/2018 21:30

Ours is thirteen weeks. He wakes once or twice for the toilet but goes straight back to sleep each time. He generally sleeps 11-7 or so with two toilet breaks of 5 minutes each time.

Fatjilly · 28/05/2018 21:37

I say “bedtime” and go upstairs. Dogs and cat follow me up, old dog gets in his bed, little dog and cat race me to get prime position in my bed. They all stay put until I wake up (cat does occasionally use my head as a springboard to get on the windowsill but I’ve learned to sleep through that)

missbattenburg · 28/05/2018 21:43

Goes to bed at 10pm. Gets up at 7.45am.

I set an alarm and refused to get up earlier than that. At first the alarm was set very early as it needed to go off before he woke naturally.

Alarms went off, we got up. Once he had cottoned on that the alarm was the signal we were getting up, I slowly snuck it back in time by 5 mins. I kept doing this every few days until it was going off at 7.45am. Now, if I want to get up earlier (because I am awake) I quickly change the alarm to go off in five mins time.

I just had to be consistent:

  • no matter what I do before the alarm (get up for a wee, sit up and read), I NEVER get up.
  • once the alarm goes off, I get up straight away
FluffyPinkCloud · 29/05/2018 06:10

Our puppy wakes up between five and six but I put him back to bed until we get up.

newme175 · 29/05/2018 08:08

Thank you for all replies and it's interesting to hear about different experiences.
Well this morning he woke up at 5.22 .... yawn.
I do put him back to bed after his toilet, and he whines the whole time until I'm properly up and he's fed.

I think going to the garden wakes him up even more, but can't not do it as I believe at 4 months he still needs it. I'm thinking from 6ish months not to go to him at all until 6am.

I'm hopeful that he will sleep better as he gets older!

Bed time around 11, with a last wee around 12-1 once husband comes up. Wakes around 7 for a cuddle but will go back to sleep till 10 given the choice. He takes himself off to bed in the evening if he’s too tired to stay with us. Very lazy.
He’s almost 7 so loves his sleep....

FluffyPinkCloud · 29/05/2018 08:50

Mine will whinge sometimes when he comes up after his morning wee so I give him a frozen Kong now or half an antler or something. could you try that?
