Husky 60 days pregnant could be in labour

If anybody can give me advice would appreciate it, so at 6:15 we heard crying from our female Siberian husky she was wanting to get into the utility room as she likes sitting in this corner so we let her in, in the first hour she was panting heavily crying still if I left she’d cry even more so I’ve been near her since, she keeps getting up and getting comfy then sitting back down then getting back up, scratching the floor and pulling her blankets around to sort out her space, she has been to sleep for abit but now it’s 10:25 and she has started getting up again and moving around then lays down for abit, I think today could be the day just don’t know how many hours it will go on for as she hasn’t gone into active labour yet there’s no sign of pushing just that’s she’s really uncomfortable and keeps sorting out her corner she’s in and moving around a lot. Any body got any advice on what’s next or how long it will be till she starts giving birth

No advice but how exciting!

Zinedine1 · 25/05/2018 10:32

Anxiously waiting , she’s just started to have shakes and I’ve read that they start having shakes so must be progressing, I’m actually 25 weeks pregnant with twins so it’s killing me being next to her on floor as if I move away she cries, she’s a very needy and loving dog

If you’ve got a copy of The Book of the Bitch - read it, read it again, then read it a third time.

If you haven’t got a copy send someone out to a bookshop to get one - right now.

Call your breeding mentor to tell them what’s going on - they might be able to come and sit with you and advise on when you need to intervene (if at all).

Phone the vet and double check the out of hours number for tonight - because it’s always the middle of the night when helping bitches need help (and even more typical that it’s a BH weekend!!)

Good luck, hope she goes well and there aren’t any major problems.

Just a waiting game now she’s shown every sign all that’s left is waiting for her to start pushing , will keep updates if anything else happens but it seems to be progressing from this morning

FGS why are you breeding husky puppies? Go for a wander around any rescue centre and you'll find about 5 huskies all looking for new homes - often more than there are staffies.

No one should be breeding a dog breed when there's already such an enormous oversupply of them - it's simply not ethical.

Wolfiefan · 25/05/2018 13:31

Honestly the time to find out about labour in bitches is before labour. Bit late now but I too question why you're breeding from this bitch. I hope you do have a breeding mentor and this post was a moment of panic and not indicative of how clueless you are.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/05/2018 13:34

Ooh, puppeeeeeeee photos placemarking

Zinedine1 · 25/05/2018 13:34

Hello, I already know about this I know about the breed, I know that people get them and then they don’t realise about the breed and how they play could seem agreesive to people that don’t know the breed and the amount of work they are, or people getting them for the looks , I am not a breeder, I did not intend to breed them they was kept separate when she was in heat but our Male can open doors so all we could do to keep them separate was a gate and he ended up breaking it down while I was at the doctors and when I got back they had stuck together, we haven’t breed them on purpose and yes you can question why wasn’t they done, 1 is because our Male we not long got him and two we haven’t had the reason to spade our female as we had no Male dogs we only just moved out and then ended up getting the male dog and we tried our best to keep them apart but when I had to go to the doctors it happened without my knowledge and me not being there I couldn’t have done anything so no I haven’t breed them willingly.

Oh dear.

Your bitch is in labour and you're coming on here to ask what's likely to happen next. Is your breeding mentor on MN? Because that's the person you should be contacting.

You should know this stuff. You should have clued yourself up on it before you even bred her.

Wolfiefan · 25/05/2018 13:39

You can abort. You didn't do enough to prevent the pregnancy. And no health testing? I see Avocados FGS and raise you a FFS.

Reaa · 25/05/2018 13:41

Have you called the vet yet?

SilverHairedCat · 25/05/2018 13:44

Judgemental posts aren't helping the dog or the owner. Save them for another day.

Get on the phone to the vet. If you don't have a mentor, you need someone to advise and the vet will be your port of call. What did they tell you? I assume she's had check ups?

(I also assume the father has now been castrated?)

pigsDOfly · 25/05/2018 13:50

So irresponsible.

LostMyBaubles · 25/05/2018 13:53

Brew place marking

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 25/05/2018 13:58

Have you never heard of an emergency spay?

Get your dog to the vet ASAP - it's fairly clear you have neither the knowledge or experience to recognise when something goes wrong. Dogs and puppies can and do die in such circumstances

Wolfiefan · 25/05/2018 14:00

They won't spay a dog in actual labour though!
How will you home these pups OP? Please contact a breed rescue and don't stick them on pets 4 homes or scumtree.
Get them all done ASAP.

SpanielsAreNuts · 25/05/2018 14:03

Just incase anyone else is reading who accidentally allows a male dog to mate with their female dog - you should take bitch straight to the vet and she can be given a doggy version of the 'morning after pill' to prevent conception taking place. Or you can quickly spay the bitch before puppies develop and prevent future accidents. There isn't an excuse for breeding without appropriate knowledge, health tests on parents and an experienced mentor in place.

OP I hope your bitch is ok. Have you thought what you are going to do with all the puppies? How are you going to find suitable homes?

SpanielsAreNuts · 25/05/2018 14:05

Avocados surely bitch in labour is far too late for the spay option?

pigsDOfly · 25/05/2018 14:07

Hope OP has spoken to the vet and is getting some support.

Can't imagine what it must be like to have a bitch about to give birth and not know what you're doing.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 25/05/2018 14:08

How is she OP? Definitely need to call a vet.

zenasfuck · 25/05/2018 14:10

Fgs your poor dog.
And poor puppies 😢

Your reasons for this unwanted pregnancy are weak at best and irresponsible.

There is simply no excuse for this happening. But still I expect you'll be glad of making a few quid eh ?

And to wait until your dog is in labour before seeking advice is piss poor

Fatball · 25/05/2018 14:13

Accident. Yeah right 🙄
No health tests. “Spade”. No clue about anything least of all breeding.

Great.
