Our new friend comes home on Saturday and I’ve got some questions I can’t seem to find the answers to anywhere....! Help.

Do I need to brush him? What brush would I need?

How often do you give them a bath?

Do I just feed him complete dry dog food and treats etc or does he need wet food / bran as my mum keeps banging on about (she has 3 small dogs and says bran flakes with hot water is really important for their bowels...!)

Do I need to brush his teeth?

Sorry if any of these seem daft but I’m new to all this and would like the ins and outs!

BreakfastatLitanies - but which ones did you choose? And did you get matching leads?

WaverleyOwl · 03/06/2018 17:55

I have house collars on mine 24/7 (wide collars, like the martingales, that have their tags on but are not for walking outside) and I use harnesses when we go for walks. Most greyhound coats have holes so you can get access to the harness for securing the leads. Remember, no extending leads! For your safety and theirs.

WaverleyOwl · 03/06/2018 17:59

I also have lightweight waterproof jackets for both for when it is wet in Spring and Autumn, and Winter jackets for when it is cold. Need to match collars, harnesses, leads and coats too! Pick a colour and then go with it 😊

BreakfastAtLitanies · 05/06/2018 00:10

@CMOTDibbler I chose a green one with little sheep on it in a full martingale for my hound Bobby! Got a matching flat collar and matching velvet lead Blush he deserves to be treated, he's had a tough time what with all the sleeping and accepting cuddles he's had to put up with, it's hard being a retired hound you know Grin

CMOTDibbler · 05/06/2018 07:49

I love that sheep one! And matching tag collar and lead is just vital - I love the fleece leads, and tell Jo to just choose colours that work with my collars which is a far better tactic than me choosing.

We have lots of coats... Obv waterproof, warm and waterproof, pyjamas for camping, and fleeces. I've then made a Halloween glo in the dark one, matching christmas ones, and I have the fabric for valentines and easter coats when I have time

Fairylea · 05/06/2018 07:53

Can I ask if there’s a harness brand that has similar colours / designs to choose from like the collars linked to? We seem to get on better with a harness than a collar but all the harnesses I’ve found look pretty boring compared to those lovely collars!

(We are currently going through a thing of stopping mid walk and refusing to walk - even the shortest of short walks- and then suddenly he will decide to go again. I think he’s just very stubborn). Hmm

@CMOTDibbler wow - you make your own coats? That's impressive!

The collars and lead came and I am in love! They're so perfectly fitting and our hound Bobby usually gets agitated when we change collars but they're so gentle on him and soft and he loves them too! I've been browsing for my next choice Blush excited for Christmas to come - I'm getting some of those Christmas ones for sure!

CMOTDibbler · 12/06/2018 20:20

I started making them for my foster puppies as we didn't have coats to fit them and the littlies need a couple of coats each as they get disgusting in the winter. Then I relined a couple of my dogs coats, and then made his halloween one. Christmas was a bit nuts as it was my two dogs and the foster - but we then won best fancy dress at the dog parade!

So glad you love your collars, I really would recommend them to anyone

BreakfastAtLitanies · 13/06/2018 22:20

@CMOTDibbler That's brilliant! A dog parade sounds fantastic!! I wish we had something like that around here. Really impressed with your ability to make coats - might have to try something like that myself and see if I can get the hang of it.

Here's the man himself rocking his sheep collar Grin

That face 😍😍. I think green looks fab on black hounds.

BreakfastAtLitanies · 19/06/2018 20:23

He does have such a handsome face. Such sad eyes though! I think they do it to ensure they are given cuddles frequently and more treats 🙄

Flippetydip · 20/06/2018 09:43

I'm seriously thinking of a new collar. We've had fliphound over a year now and she's still in the collar she came in. That's almost cruelty really, isn't it?

Phillpot12 · 20/06/2018 10:02

I thought buying multiple collars was a prerequisite for sight hound owners!? Your poor dog sounds very neglected Grin

Flippetydip · 20/06/2018 10:35

I know, she is. I'm feeling very contrite.
