Our new friend comes home on Saturday and I’ve got some questions I can’t seem to find the answers to anywhere....! Help.

Do I need to brush him? What brush would I need?

How often do you give them a bath?

Do I just feed him complete dry dog food and treats etc or does he need wet food / bran as my mum keeps banging on about (she has 3 small dogs and says bran flakes with hot water is really important for their bowels...!)

Do I need to brush his teeth?

Sorry if any of these seem daft but I’m new to all this and would like the ins and outs!

Grin

They are exceptionally well behaved house guests to start off with...... his cheeky side will come out! It's great he's leaving you to eat your dinner in peace, just don't undo that good work by feeding him titbits at the table 😈. He really is a stunning dog and in true grey style it's taken less than 24 hours to steal the sofa!

Wolfiefan · 26/05/2018 22:41

He's gorgeous. May you have many many more lovely days

Screaminginsideme · 27/05/2018 14:29

He’s gorgeous!

Fairylea · 29/05/2018 18:52

Thank you everyone for all your help. No major issues so far and he’s certainly comfortable! (He seems happy to use his own bed if sofa is full!)

I love how well he fits with the decor, a grey sofa, a grey bed and a grey greyhound 😈. He's a happy boy and clearly very relaxed in his new home.

Fairylea · 29/05/2018 20:36

Grin yes that’s true, he is blending in!

Dapplegrey · 29/05/2018 20:45

He is absolutely gorgeous.

plominoagain · 29/05/2018 22:16

Oh look how happy and relaxed he is ! Lovely .

WaverleyOwl · 31/05/2018 22:01

Where did you get his bed? Think mine would love that (after I've kicked them off the marital bed yet again 😊)

Skippii · 31/05/2018 22:12

To train a hound off your sofa, you need empty cardboard boxes. Flatten and pop behind the sofa while you sit, and pop up to save the place if you're not there.

After a while they get used to it not being their seat and you can bin the boxes

Snakie · 01/06/2018 18:48

@Fairylea yes, where did you that bed? It looks ace!

Fairylea · 01/06/2018 19:54

The bed came from a garden centre near to me, it has an individual name but I think they are owned by QD stores Grin It was only £20! Grin He loves it and has actually given up the sofa in favour of it!

Fairylea · 01/06/2018 19:56

They only have it in red online but they have it in brown and grey in store.

Great - thank you!
Hope your lovely dog is settling in well

Has anyone talked to the OP yet about collar shopping?! Biggest essential greyhound purchase - about a bajillion pretty collars.

Once they correctly install themselves in the upside down position - you're sorted.

CMOTDibbler · 02/06/2018 21:27

Collars are indeed vital Bing Grin I've just bought a lovely sunflower one for the hounds summer wardrobe, and have to find collars that complement each other and the two very different colour dogs. My blue boy looks great in orange or yellow collars (and current blue foster girl is rocking vibrant pink) - he needs the bright contrast. His tag collar is an orange rolled leather, and he has a copper and vanilla silk party tag collar

Phillpot12 · 02/06/2018 21:53

This sounds an expensive habit CMOT!!

BingTheButterflySlayer · 02/06/2018 21:55

Bunny shredded her last posh one so currently just has a leather hound shaped one till I get a new one sorted. Was a lovely orange one as well she wrecked!

Fairylea · 02/06/2018 22:07

Where does everyone get their collars from? Any particular makes / brands I should be looking at? At the moment he just has a wide brown leather dogs trust one as that’s the one he came with.

Could someone help me with collars?! Sorry to hijack post!!

As far as I understand Martingales are good for walking but no good for the house as they can get feet stuck when scratching with back legs and there's a strangle risk?

What collars would you all recommend for indoors/continuous wearing?

What a beautiful dog you have, OP. Greyhounds are just the most magnificent creatures Grin

Phillpot12 · 02/06/2018 22:18

Meggie moo is always mentioned I think. I think often people gave thin tag collars for Home then put martingale on for walk? I'm sure more knowledgeable people will comment soon....

CMOTDibbler · 02/06/2018 22:58

Meggie Moo collars are fabulous (my fave from Jo is our navy Liberty fabric with snowdrops one, and her fleece leads are gorgeous) and very well made. I also have ones from Slouching Hound (really nice ribbon based ones which wear well, and I have a sunflower one and a much loved rainbow one), Dogs on Bikes, and Hounds Haberdashery. Oh and Kitsch collars... They've built up over time - christmas, halloween, spring, summer, special events.

I confess my dogs keep their martingales (apart from a couple of posh ones, mine are all full martingales) on all day alongside their tag collars, but I take them off at night. They never wear them in the crate, just like any collar without a safety clip or that would slip off easily

KenDoddsDadsDogIsDead · 02/06/2018 23:03

Yes to a raised food bowl and being a food thief! Mine helped herself to sausages off the bbq ..and loved a roast dinner. She also refused to go out in the rain.
Enjoy your greyhound. I am sure it will all pan out just fine. They are wonderful companions.

Wolfiefan · 02/06/2018 23:20

I want new collars now! Shock

BreakfastAtLitanies · 03/06/2018 00:03

Thank you for the recommendation! Just ordered quite a few collars from MeggieMoo and I'm feeling the addiction beginning already Blush
