Well done Wolfie dog and fan😁
My neighbour, although she lives about half a mile down the lane, came past with boisterous lab. We chatted for about five mins and during that time a couple of cars came past. Both times she flapped about her dog but didn’t leash him at all. Told me she was worried about cars and him getting distracted and failing to stop, return, be under control basically. I asked why she won’t use a lead and she replied that he is dreadful on lead and “plays up” . fgs basic training. She also said that she has stopped walking him in the village because some owners have been upset because he is off lead BUT he is perfectly friendly and there dog is NOT. No clue and now because they are walking more locally it seems it is falling to me to have the conversation. I am finding it difficult because it doesn’t seem that long ago that cocodog was lacking in doggy manners but we have worked really hard on them and chief has been walking calmly past other dogs on lead and recalling to be put on lead if meeting an onlead dog whilst offlead. Can’t avoid them forever.

Well done Wolfie and Wolfiedog! Star

S'funny, no one has ever suggested that SquirrelDog and I try the KCB, even though we have been doing obedience classes for a year...

I was under the impression that the dog was supposed to pee ON those rocks, not drink from water containing them Blush It's just as well there's no grass in my garden.

Wolfiefan · 31/05/2018 22:34

Oh nobody suggested we do it either! Grin
Thought we would give it a go. She loves training and I need all the practice I can get!

noitsnotteatimeyet · 31/05/2018 22:50

Well done Wolfiedog and Wolfiefan! Next stop, Silver???

Wolfiefan · 31/05/2018 22:51

Maybe. Eek! Shock

bluetongue · 01/06/2018 09:19

And here I am still struggling to get Bluepuppy to sit reliably without a great Blush

BiteyShark · 01/06/2018 09:25

blue do you treat straight away? Maybe start to get him to sit and treat, then sit and wait a few seconds then treat, then sit and wait a longer time then treat.

Once that is established then sit, move backwards and wait then go back and treat. Then introduced more actions you do whilst he sits and waits, flap arms about then treat. Then walk round him then treat etc.

Oh the joys of dog ownership that no one told you about. Just had to pull a clump of long grass out of his bottom as it wouldn't come out and he just hoovered there looking distressed Shock. It's a good job I love the furry monster Grin

Just read your post thegirl. Your neighbour sounds a pain in the arse. I guess you are going to have to risk frosty neighbourly relations as it sounds like she's latched on to you and Cocodog given that other dog owners have clearly said something.

Have had to pull the clump of grass out of ass😬with previous Lancashire Heeler but not yet thankfully with cocodog. Got to the groomers today so now short and sassy ready for another hot spell I think. We have our own SpringWatch here with bunny spotting!
Think neighbour tries really hard with her own dog and agenda but doesn’t consider how it affects other dog owners tbh. She isn’t training her dog as much as nagging him to comply which is all very well until a distraction comes along. She would do better training him to walk on loose lead for part of the walk and then off lead. DH is very good at calm confrontation and is prepared to have the conversation when it next arises.

Soubriquet · 01/06/2018 20:47

Oh this is so outing but I can't not post it!

thegirl Cocodog is going to love her new haircut as looking hot this weekend. We go next week but as we only went 6 weeks ago it's still quite short. I just wish his belly fur would grow quicker from where he had it completely shaved for his scans and operation so it can be blended in better.

Soubriquet very cute Smile. Did you go to the vets/behaviourist to help with her anxiety/biting?

Oh steppedog......

I was out working all day yesterday. dh and kids at home.
I got home at 6 and walked in and the house STANK, honestly I could hardly bear to walk in the door.

Dh hadn't noticed. ds had been complaining to him all day. dh had thought he was being fussy.

steppedog had obviously rolled in and nose dived/dragged his chest through some really smelly wee of some sort, not dirty, so not obvious, just STANK. Honestly a skunk has nothing on this.

me - how can you not notice?
dh - I can't smell anything Hmm Confused

so I removed collar, found harness and lead and chucked them in the wash, smell reduced slightly. I got a wet cloth and rubbed him all over, smell reduced slightly.

We ate dinner, half way through I realised it was going to have to be a shampoo, as I could hardly eat, so after dinner I went outside and had to shampoo and rinse him off with the hose in the cold evening, when he COULD have been shampooed in the heat of the nice sunny day...

Then this morning dd2, our early bird, over slept, and we were all asleep, so he decided to take the lids of the bins and then empty them, item by item until the floor was covered in rubbish. (and goodness only knows what he has eaten in the process)

to be fair to dh, he has now taken steppedog out for a run, so I am off walking duties today, penance for not walking him yesterday!

BiteyShark · 02/06/2018 10:26

Oh dear steppe, your DH clearly is nose blind Grin

We've done the vets and come back clear.
Just waiting for behaviourist to fit us in now

BiteyShark · 02/06/2018 10:54

That's good Soubriquet. Let's hope you don't have a long wait.

The advantages of being natural early risers is that we have been out for a ball run and been back and done all the jobs before it gets too hot to do anything. Feeling virtuous GrinHalo

I was with you yesterday Bitey, out and 2 hour walk and home before 9.

Steppedog is having a real run of it, rolled in something green and stinky this morning, 2 shampoos later and he still has a dodgy green patch on his chest and still smells.
I'll send him up to sit in dh's study later, he won't notice!

BiteyShark · 04/06/2018 19:49

Fortunately BiteyDog hasn't rolled in anything obvious for a while or we have just developed nose blindness

He's very very tired today after daycare, must have had a hard day. Really hoping he sleeps all night because for some reason he thought I needed a kiss in the early hours this morning Hmm

We had agility class today which means me getting tangled in all sorts of ways. Cocodog very patient but she watches my every move which means when I get it wrong so does she. We had a play bit at the end which was a real gallop around easy jumps and tunnels and she is so fast. She usually is on bunny watch at this time of night at the moment but two have been past plus a pheasant and no reaction. Night night Coco!

BiteyShark · 05/06/2018 20:00

thegirl I know all about getting it wrong at agility Grin. They have that look of 'what are you doing' Confused

OP posts:
thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 05/06/2018 20:34

Apparently I flap my arm around too much and confuse her. When I am put in the right position to guide her we do well and our trainer is good in that she breaks stuff down into small moves and throws in easy stuff as well. The truth is and always will be...that cocodog can shift herself and I try to keep up with her much to the amusement of fellow middle aged owners😜

BiteyShark · 05/06/2018 20:41

Oh it must be a 'thing' as I get told to stop waving my arm about as well Grin. I just wish he wouldn't stop dead when he detects a discarded treat in the grass. I turn round to find him in hunting mode. His nose is too good Smile

Squirrel26 · 05/06/2018 22:20

Took SquirrelDog to scent class this evening and he was bonkers - oscillating between absolutely refusing to work or look at me or eat his revolting squeezy cheese reward and jumping on anyone who stood still for 10 seconds in search of cuddles. It was like trying to wrangle a tiny very drunk person.

He's now walking a fine line between 'hilarious' and 'annoying the shit out of me'. I think it's time to go to bed and declare today over...

BiteyShark · 06/06/2018 07:22

We are on a grooming mission. Despite going to the groomers every 5-6 weeks he's becoming more fearful and intolerant of it Sad. Think it's our fault because we keep him short we never need to groom him in between. I tried to do his ears a few days ago and he was really not having it.

So now after I clean his teeth at bedtime I am going to have to start grooming him to get used to it. He's not going to like me very much Sad

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 06/06/2018 07:48

Mine used to chew me when I tried to groom her. We did little and often. Literally a single brushstroke or maybe two!
