Poor duck, hope she survives her ordeal. My fear one day is finding BiteyDog with a pigeon in his mouth as he spends most of the day chasing them and bees in the garden

We took Wolfie pup to Birdland once. She had strict instructions NOT to P..P..Pick up a penguin! Grin

TropicPlunder · 15/05/2018 18:36

Tropic dog grabbed one of our chickens ....I thought it was a goner but she pulled through, despite lying down with shock for a bit, losing some feathers and a couple of punctures. Dog and chickens co-exist happily now. Hope your duck is going to be ok

BiteyShark · 15/05/2018 18:56

Oh god BiteyDog would be one crazy mutt in birdland. Anything that flaps is evil according to him although he does a great job of catching and eating flies

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 15/05/2018 20:17

I heard flies described as sky raisins for dogs recently! Grin
Mine would rather like to catch a pigeon! We have actual evils. The two cats who wind up the dog.

noitsnotteatimeyet · 16/05/2018 07:37

Despite teatimetoller being a duck tolling retriever, he’s actually terrified of ducks Hmm. He was having a lovely splash around in a pond when he was about 8 months old when suddenly 3 ducks landed very noisily on the water right next to him. He shot out of the pond with a look of abject terror on his face, much to the amusement of passers by and ever since then he treats ducks with the utmost respect

noitsnotteatimeyet · 16/05/2018 07:38

I hope your death wish duck pulls through and has learned her lesson..

Squirrel26 · 16/05/2018 08:20

SquirrelDog just had a terrible encounter on his morning walk when he was confronted by a toddler being carried by his mum who was waving a small paper flag

Apparently flags are dangerous and scary. Who knew? Grin

steppemum · 16/05/2018 10:25

laughing at dangerous ducks and flags Grin
Wolfie went to BIRDLAND Shock faints at the idea of trying to drag steppedog round birdland, he would just go totally and completely nuts.

death-wish-duck has survived the night. She is staying firmly inside her nest box though. Her mate is wandering round looking a bit lost. When I peeked in she strutted out looking annoyed at the interruption, so she is quite bright and perky and walking. Mind you, she has a nest full of eggs, that we were hoping she would sit on, maybe she has decided it is time to sit. (faint hope) The gash was quite deep, and she is quite small, it is under her wing feathers so I couldn't see it this morning, just hoping it doesn't get infected.

The worst thing is, I cannot work out exactly where she got out. She has been out 4 times this week - under the gate, so we blocked it, found another hole so we blocked it, she moved the blockage Hmm so dd barricaded it up with planks and bricks, and now there is no hole bigger than 1" and she still got out. I think she may have moved the gate blockage, so I have added another plank. Tricky though to block that hole and still use the gate.

Steppedog found a lovely ball on his walk this morning and then resource guarded it in a way I have never seen him do, he wouldn't come to me, just shadowed me from a distance with the ball! It was quite funny actually, especially as at the end of the walk he did come and put his lead on (with the ball) otherwise I might have been writing anther steppedog rant.

Squirrel26 · 17/05/2018 08:24

Just got a reminder email that SquirrelDog has an agility lesson this evening (just as well as I’d completely forgotten!) mainly these consist of him looking at birds/squirrels/horses/other dogs while we manoeuvre him into various positions eg on the seesaw or with his front paws on the A-frame. One day he will engage with the process...

BiteyShark · 17/05/2018 08:40

In our agility lesson BiteyDog just hunts out all the treats other dogs have dropped Hmm

I'm not sure if it was a cat or a fox that PestDog nearly caught - all I saw was a flash of ginger fur at dusk. Next thing I know he's chased it into a thin hedge with a tall fence immediately behind it. It must have escaped over the fence as there was no yowling or tufts of ginger fur in PestDog's mouth but still.

Also, I found someone taking their cat for a walk on a lead in a dog heavy park. As it was on a lead, it couldn't get away if a dog gave chase. I did point out to the owners that it as a good job I'd seen them before I let my terrier off the lead. Does anyone know the legal position if a dog catches a cat and kills it in such circumstances? I fear they're stupid enough to do it again.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 17/05/2018 15:21

Goodness, a cat on a lead in a London park🙄 Our sadly deceased cat used to accompany us on walks around the village with the dogs. He used to bob up a tree or wall if he saw something he didn’t like the look of. When we got to open fields he would yowl loudly for us to jolly well come back right now! The children used to worry that he wouldn’t find his way home but of course he always did, usually sat on the roof looking rather superior😀
Bitey, cocodog also spends a disproportionate amount of time treat hunting at agility.

Wolfiefan · 17/05/2018 15:46

My bloody cats follow us when we go for walks. Idiots.
We once met a goat. Walking one foggy morning. Thank goodness I had put Wolfie pup back on the lead. Woman was walking ahead of a tiny terrier and goat on the bloody mobile phone.
Could've ended badly!

BiteyShark · 17/05/2018 18:18

thegirl it would be funny if it wasn't so bloody frustrating when he is running over jumps and then suddenly veers off course as he's picked up a scent of a discarded treat leaving me stood there looking like an idiot Hmm

Squirrel26 · 17/05/2018 20:06

I’m sorry, I thought for a moment you said that someone was walking a goat... what on Earth? Don’t you just leave it in a field and it walks itself??

steppemum · 18/05/2018 12:26

morning all.
I am sitting here on mn and the dog is finding all sorts of things to take down the garden one at a time.

Good job he can't reach the clean washing (behind closed door)

BiteyShark · 18/05/2018 13:36

Morning steppemum.

Mine has finally crashed asleep after pestering me to play all morning. Clearly he thinks I don't need to work Hmm.

Just took him for a road walk which he doesn't often do so he's sleeping the excitement off Grin.

Squirrel26 · 19/05/2018 07:08

Morning.
SquirrelDog has been up for an hour. He has barked in the house at the annoying birds outside, stolen and shredded 3 empty cardboard boxes, stolen and played with a pair of my shorts, been very unkind to ‘Mr Squeaky Snakey’, barked outside at the annoying birds and finished off his rubber snake toy filled with kibble and yoghurt. He’s just come in and glared at me because obviously there is not enough going on. Hmm I am tired. Already.

BiteyShark · 19/05/2018 07:13

I am sure it's the lighter mornings Squirrel that sets them off. BiteyDog used to open his eyes, eat his breakfast and then go back to sleep. Now it's lighter he is demanding ball play at 6am when we are eating breakfast or throwing things about in the garden.

OP posts:
Squirrel26 · 19/05/2018 07:25

To be fair to him, he’s doing better than last summer when he was up at 5...that really is unnecessary.

We are doing a Scentwork Trial this morning. I’m not at all sure how this is going to go - SquirrelDog is quite capricious in his approach to finding the scent, and I’m not brilliant at remembering all of the rules (especially the one about ‘no excessive verbal encouragement to the dog’).

BiteyShark · 19/05/2018 07:36

Good luck with the scent trial. I need to get our agility stuff out in the garden to practice today.

OP posts:
Squirrel26 · 19/05/2018 07:54

Thanks! I imagine I’ll end up looking like an idiot (as per), but he doesn’t know he’s being marked (it’s at our usual training centre and all his mates from class will be there) and he’ll get his treats as usual, so he’ll have a good time!

noitsnotteatimeyet · 19/05/2018 08:22

When teatimetoller gets bored in the summer, he starts taking his toys out into the garden one by one and creating a pile in the middle of the grass. One day last year I was on a long phone call and he took his bed out too and then went hunting for stray items of laundry (he found several Hmm).

On the plus side he’s very chilled in the mornings. Today I had to get up very early to take dh to the station. I let teatimetoller out for a wee and as soon as he came back in he went straight back to bed Grin

noitsnotteatimeyet · 19/05/2018 08:24

Good luck with the trial today too! We do bits of scent work in our training class and teatimetoller loves it
