6:30am. I woke to silence. No yapping. Wow.

newme175 · 19/04/2018 06:57

5.17 here... but he didn't wake up in the night! So held his bladder 9pm to 5.17 am :)

Took toilet and put him back until 6am ignoring the whinging

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 19/04/2018 07:41

Mine slept 10.30 until 4 when I took her out. Then she would not settle down again and I got up at 5.30 when she wanted to play! She then had an accident on my hall rug - I went to get a bag and eurghh it had disappeared when I got back! I know this is a normal thing but how best to discourage it??

newme175 · 19/04/2018 08:30

4am ouch..... I never actually realised that puppies don't sleep through the night :( and I've had dogs growing up and looked after a few different dogs over the last year as a homeboarder! Silly me and this pup is definitely teaching me a lesson ;)

Elphame · 19/04/2018 09:08

MilkTrayLimeBarrel. The poo eating is disgusting.

I just picked up and removed the puppy as soon as I saw him produce one so I could clean it up without him doing it! It was a phase here that didn't last long.

OP posts:
MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 19/04/2018 09:29

Elphame - good to hear this phase doesn't last long. Really turns your stomach! I will be more vigilant in future!

thereinmadnesslies · 20/04/2018 05:46

Sigh up at 5.30 with madnesspup. He’s been funny about his crate the last few nights. I’m not sure if it’s the heat. He’s been barking after we put him to bed and then this morning he’s barking very early. I’m trying to tell myself it’s just a phase ....

ThisIsThe · 20/04/2018 06:34

The fluff monster started yapping at 5:30 today. Oh well.

ThisIsThe · 20/04/2018 06:53

Just realised i’ve been very remiss and there is no photo of the fluff monster on this thread.

BiteyShark · 20/04/2018 08:06

My dog went through many phases with crates and bring left in the day. For no reason at all he would be really reluctant to go in it or when being left bark when he previously hadn't.

It would have been very easy to stop using the crate at that point but we persevered and he settled back again after a few days. Same with being left alone.

I do think they go through a few phases and regress on some issues as they grow up. Mine certainly did.

ThisIsThe · 20/04/2018 12:22

The fluff monster has stopped eating. Only ate half her food yesterday, a little bit of breakfast and then absolutely no lunch. She loves her food normal inhales it.

We are off to the vet in a bit. I’m really worried.

thereinmadnesslies · 20/04/2018 23:56

What did the vet say ThisIsThe?

Madness pup is having another bad night. He doesn’t want to be in his crate, although he calms down if one of us sits by the crate :( he used to sleep through the night.

ThisIsThe · 21/04/2018 06:01

She’s got s “bug” she was much better after the medicine kicked in, but still not really eating.

She started yapping at 5:30 today and I lept out of bed in case she was sick or needed the loo. But no it was just a case of “the sky is awake so i’m awake”

She’s very hot though so I need to attempt getting medicine in her. Poor puppy.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 23/04/2018 07:14

ThisIsThe - how is your pup now? Hope she is feeling better. Mine slept in her pen from 10pm until 4.30am when DH woke her up to take her outside!! Think she might have lasted until getting up time if he hadn't woken her. No accidents in the house for 4 days!

ThisIsThe · 23/04/2018 08:12

Thanks she’s much better. She’s back to inhaling her food.

Brilliant news on your puppy housetraining. We had an atrocious night - the humans had food poisoning and the fluff monster was (understandable) disturbed.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 25/04/2018 19:08

Help please! Just tried to administer her first worming pill (she already had 2 with the breeder) but she won't swallow it. Tried ham, cheese spread and fish paste but she just spat it out. We had this with our previous dog and I really hoped the new puppy would take her meds easily. Anyone got any good tricks for making them swallow pills?

Elphame · 25/04/2018 20:05

I wrap in peanut butter ( just check it doesn't have xylitol in it. I haven't seen a brand in the UK with it yet but it's worth checking)

Just dropped Elfpup off with a friend before we go away tomorrow. Very tempted to cancel now as I'm going to miss him dreadfully.

I will have to resist the temptation to facetime him!

Buddy takes his in a little bit of bread and a LOT of butter.

OldEnglishSheepDog · 28/04/2018 02:35

Right. Pup is nearly 16wks old. That surely means that I should NOT BE UP FOR AN HOUR at this time every night and then up again at 4.30am for cuddles. I am starting to think he hates me. I have been following the advice on the fb page (Dog Behaviour and Training Support) and I'm starting to think that they are having a laugh. I am so fucking tired.

Other people (who have had dogs far longer than me) think it's ridiculous that I'm getting up with him but even if I did want to "cry it out", neither the neighbours nor my family would thank me. The one small break through I've had is the fact that I can now at least put him to bed in the crate of an evening without having to sleep on the couch next to him.

I'm not going to give him up or anything like that but I am starting to think that this was a stupid idea.

Oh and his housetraining.... He is essentially housetrained unless I am on the other side of a gate in which case he will piss all over the floor as a dirty protest. Bizarrely he is completely fine if I go out for a couple of hours.

Sorry, badly needed to rant. I do love him but half the point of getting a dog was to reduce stress and anxiety levels and that definitely hasn't worked.

OldEnglishSheepDog · 28/04/2018 04:25

I am on the sofa again and this is my view.

OldEnglishSheepdog I feel for you! Is your pup actually an OES? If so, snap! I too am finding the waking up/getting up early very tiring. Mine is 11 weeks old and actually does sleep in her pen from about 11pm until 5am but I still seem to wake up all the time in case she is awake, if you see what I mean!

They do say it all gets better very quickly (I am hoping so anyway!) and they are such good fun and cuddly during the day. It is just the constant watching what they are doing which I find difficult. Like you, she is fine in her pen if I go out for a couple of hours during the day and is asleep when I get back. Hope you sleep better tonight!

geekone · 29/04/2018 16:08

I'm so tired 😴 mine is 9.5 weeks old and has been great through the night (till the explosive diarrhoea which is in another thread) but it's the following, wee wees poops outside following so none inside don't chew this, leave the football net alone (now turning into a bloody game). He is adorable an adorable pain in my ass and I love him dearly but training is hard 😱

ThisMorningWentBadly · 29/04/2018 16:14

Hi,

Our puppy is 20 weeks old. She is doing really well over night but still starts yapping hideously early. We don’t get her up until 6:30, her crate is dry and she’s in no rush for the loo when we let her out.

This week’s plan is to get her to used to spending time alone in the day. Currently she will spend 15 Mins in her crate without yapping. I’m trying to work it up to an hour (minute by minute).

newme175 · 29/04/2018 16:32

Just checking in for progress. Totally sympathy to the non sleepers and early risers .... yawn
My pup is now 14 weeks old, the past 2/3 nights he has been getting up closer to 6... but a couple of days before it's been between 4/5am. I'm hoping we are coming out of the night wakings and hope to get up closer to 6 and maybe eventually at 6.30 weekdays and 7 am weekends would be ideal!
He has been enjoying his walks and we have been letting him of the lead from the word go, I'm constantly working on recall with treats but if he misbehaves I put him on long training lead.

House training... hmmm he is ok when I'm constantly watching, but can just go when I'm momentarily distracted. So still working on that.

My main issue now is that I cannot leave him alone as he really cries when I go out (he is left with family but still cries for me).

He is now ok alone if I'm upstairs or in another room, so there has been some progress... but the problem is that in 2 weeks time I will have to leave him home alone for about 2 hours! Arghhh... I have started to leave each day for few minutes to build it up and he cries lots :(

Also here is a picture of him now, he has changed a lot :)

@geekone Re runny tum, mine had a bout about 9/10 weeks and I've used pro kolin paste which sorted it out (or you can try other probiotics).
