Greyhound coming for home check tomorrow

After years of desperately wanting a dog we are having a home check with the Greyhound Trust tomorrow and I just want to share my excitement with you all! I went along to the kennels on Monday with my toddler and was matched to a very handsome 4 year old blonde haired ex racer that has been around the volunteer's young grandchildren. We took him for a walk and I just fell in love!

He was much more sprightly on this morning's walk with his new jacket on. I've ordered a fleece online for fresh dry days and a local lady sold me this waterproof one with a lovely wool lining. I think he looks very handsome in it!

What a sweetie!

He looks very handsome. Is he settling in well?

Nowthereistwo · 17/12/2017 11:21

He looks like Rossi's brother. We've had him 5 wks now and he's also 4.

We've had greyhounds before and Rossi has fitted right into our busy house.

Good luck with your boy

If you search on FB, theres a sighthound playgroup group - people get together to hire secure venues and then the dogs do mass zoomies (you'll need a muzzle just for safety as it only takes an exposed tooth and someone will charge into it and split their skin). There is also quite a lot of secure dog fields you can hire - theres 3 near me, and one does group walk sessions divided into dog size.

He's settled in really well and has immediately bonded to me, I left him home with my husband for a couple of hours yesterday and he whined for me a did a little howl when I left. I work from home so as lovely as his affection is I'm going to have to get him used to being left for short periods to avoid him becoming a velcro dog.

I do however seem to be a bit allergic to him, I don't have weepy eyes or nose but the skin on my face where he licked me a couple of days ago is a bit tight and sore. I'm hoping it improves as I get used to him but if not I'll have to stock up on antihistamines!

Don't let him lick your face then it won't feel sore, he is gorgeous and has a wonderful smile.

Tatie3 my skin on my hands reacted very badly to my puppy licking me. Sounds very similar but it did improve after a few weeks but it was very sore initially.

So glad he has settled in well.

He's not really a dog that licks often but I think he was just excited retirednow, he hasn't done it since but my skin is still sore. I'm hopeful that the allergy symptoms will fade like in your case BiteyShark, though it's a small price to pay for his wonderful company and none of the children seem to be affected by it.

He's made me so happy, my husband thinks I'm mad for jumping out of bed at the crack of dawn to go for a walk but I love the quiet calm and the crispness of the morning when there's only me and Teddy out.
