Are you having him clipped? BiteyDog always looks tidier after the groomers and I have his legs and paws cut really short which helps keep him clean as he is a real mud magnet.

Wolfiefan · 04/12/2017 17:57

Oh dear! What a mess.
Don't worry he will be scruffy again soon!! Grin

Elphame · 04/12/2017 18:10

He will be stripped so this is really just a wash and brush up as the adult coat is still coming in. He needs to get used to the process though and I don't want to make the mistake I made last time and leave it until the coat blows.

I expect he'll have his face clipped as he can't see where he's going at times! He'll lose most/all that black fluff on his muzzle and will have a brown face and a beard - far more grown up. I love the black puppy fur!

BiteyShark · 04/12/2017 18:11

How's the paw/leg Wolfie? BiteyDogs sore is almost there but we still have the buster collar on as the top bit still hasn't scabbed over as running about keeps opening it up a bit Sad

Wolfiefan · 04/12/2017 18:14

Just back from the vet. Trying steroids now. The leg has healed (issue due to vet not changing dressing). It's red and sore in between the pads now. Really bad and hurts her.
Officially at wits end!

BiteyShark · 04/12/2017 18:22

Elphame I am sure he will look handsome Grin.

Wolfie that sounds stressful Sad

Wolfiefan · 04/12/2017 18:33

Yep.
Went to a vair posh show yesterday. We didn't exactly cover ourselves in glory. Angry
Chewed me in the ring and span away from the judge too. Sad

BiteyShark · 04/12/2017 18:40

Oh no, maybe she was just having an off day Sad and the next time will be better.

BiteyDogs training has gone downhill given his illness and holidays. He's started pulling more on the lead and his sit/stay at training was non existent.

Wolfiefan · 04/12/2017 18:58

She is really nervous of pretty much most people. It's not just an off day. Working on it. But then we've been working on it for over a year. Seriously considering giving up on the showing.

BiteyShark · 04/12/2017 19:07

I thought you seemed to be doing so well with the showing in the past? Sad

I must admit I have been doing less gun dog work and more agility as he is so naughty at the gun dog sessions but absolutely loves the agility.

CornflakeHomunculus · 04/12/2017 19:23

Wolfie if it makes you feel any better DWhippet3 once refused to stand for the judge to write a critique and spent the whole time rolling around on the floor whilst the whippet in 1st place (we were second) stood like a pro. DWhippet1's dam once rolled in a cow pat just before going in the ring and she was a proper grown up who had previously been shown at Crufts and everything.

Also, if the link works, watch this Grin

Nobody is going to be bothered by less than stellar behaviour, especially from a young or inexperienced dog. Nobody reasonable at least Wink

If it's a struggle at the moment there's no reason you can't give showing a break then pick it up later, or enter her at some NFC so you just go and hang out for a bit with no pressure to perform. She's still very young (especially for a dog of her size) and they can be a bit all over the place during adolescence. DWhippet2 was a total scaredy cat as a youngster, including at ringcraft/shows, but he grew out of it and he's pretty much unflappable now.

passmethewineplease · 04/12/2017 22:02

These dogs can't half show you up! Snowy decided that in the middle of dog training she would have a poo right in the middle of the circle. Grin little sod wouldn't even sit yet the minute we got home she sat and lay down! Trainer said it could be that it was wet.. precious dog. Grin

She had her first groom a few weeks back too!

Hope all the poorly pups are feeling better very soon!

Cornflake. I have seen that video. It's less the chasing the dog in front or chewing me and more that she doesn't like people very much. Unless you're one of her people. In which case she is likely to headbutt you or sit on you to be cuddled.
Not sure. Some things I love about showing. Some things less so.

Wolfiefan · 04/12/2017 22:29

Hopefully not TOO outing!

BiteyShark · 05/12/2017 05:09

Is that both of you Wolfie? Grin She's looks like a professional there.

It's so frustrating when they don't want to do what you want [looks at BiteyDog] but if you still enjoy it more than it frustrates then I would keep going. It's very obvious that BiteyDog finds gun dog obedience boring and thus he plays up but I still go as it's quite sociable and in the long run better for his obedience. However, the agility is so much fun for him but harder for me Grin.

Wolfiefan · 05/12/2017 07:55

That's us! She has her sulking face on. I think that was after we had discussions about not chewing me as she ran!
She loves obedience (even if she often isn't!) She loves ring craft. If it's people she knows it's all good. It's just the strangers she doesn't like and at 14 months I'm not sure she's going to change.

BiteyShark · 05/12/2017 08:03

Well I hope BiteyDog at 14 months can change Grin as he's now struggling with being left alone Sad.

I do wonder at what age I can relax.... I am thinking maybe 3 years old Hmm

Greyhorses · 05/12/2017 08:13

I had a really nervous dog before his one Bitey and he never changed or improved despite spending hundreds on behaviourists and drugs Confused

Hopefully yours is much more manageable though!!

bluetongue · 05/12/2017 09:00

Wow Wolfie you both look great Smile

Amazed that some of you are brave enough to have Christmas trees in the house. Seeing as Bluepuppy is basically a giant cat it wouldn’t last long Grin

Bluepuppy is still going well. This weekend I’m visiting the lady that will be looking after him in February when I go on holidays for two weeks. It’s a home boarding setup and she mostly takes whippets. Thinking it might be a good idea to have a test run for a couple of days before I go away. I’ll be about a 13 hour flight away so it’s not like I can just pop home to visit.

I am still struggling along a bit with walking and general training. He know exactly what sit means but unless there’s food involved he can’t be guaranteed to listen to me.

Hoping he is okay weight wise. His hip bones aren’t as well covered as I’d like them to be but he looks good otherwise and certainly eats enough!

bluetongue · 05/12/2017 09:01

Oh and here’s a recent photo of him looking handsome and very christmassy Grin

BiteyShark · 05/12/2017 09:27

Oh don't tell me that Grey I am hoping window screens so he can't bark at the monsters in the garden and plug sockets I can control on my phone so I can put the radio on or off as needed will solve the issues when he is left alone Grin. It only became a problem after the vets so I am hoping if we jump on it quickly enough I can sort it out Sad

blue how handsome does he look Grin. I am amazed but BiteyDog shows no interest in the tree at all. We had a trial for a few nights leaving him at his holiday home as well.

Wolfiefan · 05/12/2017 09:41

Blue stunning photo!
Hoping Bitey pup gets used to being left. We will have to ease back in to leaving Wolfie. She's not really been alone for over a month because of her foot.

Yokohamajojo · 05/12/2017 09:45

Elphame mine did the same when he was around 6-7 months, he was just going to sniff the horrible stagnant water but fell right in Smile

Soubriquet · 05/12/2017 10:05

Madam left quarter of her breakfast this morning (I split her food into two now she's on raw). Took her out for a walk and came back to discover the cat had eaten it Grin

Greyhorses · 05/12/2017 12:56

We are also in 6-7 month teenage hell. Not listening, constantly raking in the bin, mild separation anxiety, dug the garden so much I have no grass and it looks like a bomb has fallen.

Still, how can I be mad at her Grin
