Oh, and lovely photo Good morning. That expression is priceless Grin

GooodMythicalMorning · 29/12/2017 11:55

I think so. His face is echoing my mood haha

Goood what a grumpy face indeed Grin

blue because we can't leave BiteyDog now for a few weeks I am expecting whining and barking again when we leave him. I am just fortunate that we are in a detached house so can't pee off the neighbours too much. Your pup is also at the age which I remember BiteyDog also had periods of barking when we left him. I equate it to a stampy foot door slamming teenager Grin

Fannyfanakerpants · 29/12/2017 14:20

My pup has spent all day in her crate now! She's come out for the odd 10 mins to play or eat and then straight back in! That can only be good can't it? Why do you worry about everything. It's worse than having a baby!

BiteyShark · 29/12/2017 14:28

Fanny you don't stop worrying even when they get older Sad

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 29/12/2017 16:07

Feeling very overwhelmed and I'm only on day 2! Keep wondering what the heck I've done. I don't think it helps that he's very much mine and all my responsibility. I'm hoping it's just lack of sleep. He's a funny little guy and lovely, it's just been full on with little down-time. The opposite to Fanny as I can't get him in the crate! I'm wondering whether a puppy pen might help.

BiteyShark · 29/12/2017 16:13

Dorito puppy blues is very real and can last a while. BiteyDog was my responsibility but at the beginning if someone had whisked him away I would have been relieved. It took months for me to 'love him to bits' so hang in there Wine

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 29/12/2017 16:21

Thanks Bitey. It's a massive change. I've wanted a dog for ages. I think it's the fear of doing it wrong and hurting him in some way. I'm also rapidly running out of ideas for playing. He's incredibly reliant on me for play, so I need to try and find some things he might do independently. I do want to play and we have got very good at sit and lie down, but I need to start leaving him for spells otherwise it's going to cause problems for him when I need to pop out. I need to get some ideas for stuffing the kong for a raw fed dog.

Elphame · 29/12/2017 17:50

I felt very similar kinky DP said pup was all mine and I felt very alone and responsible ( DP and pup are at the moment having a play wrestling match behind me at the moment - he now adores him and we fight over who will walk him!).

It does get easier. It really does

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 29/12/2017 18:04

Elphame thank you [flowers@💐

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 29/12/2017 18:05

I messed that up! Flowers

Wolfiefan · 29/12/2017 18:29

I had major puppy blues! Despite wanting a wolfhound for many many years I found it overwhelming and bewildering and scary too!
It is not unusual and it passes.
A good way to start leaving them is just having a stairgate and wandering in and out. They can see you but not be with you!
I couldn't leave mine for a minute when she first came home. We went out to lunch today. Gone a good couple of hours. She couldn't have cared less!

Paperdove87 · 29/12/2017 18:33

Dorito I've felt exactly the same at times-it's so much responsibility! There's a little creature totally reliant on you to bring them up to be the best dog they can be! I even felt a bit panicked in the car home and wondered if we should turn around and say we'd made a mistake, even though she is gorgeous and seems to already have a nice personality. I think it's just natural to feel a bit like this at such a big change. And you will probably be a better pet owner for your thoughtfulness over it.

Also amazed that you've got yours sitting and lying down already! That's some good going!

We had a check over at the vets today along with a few visitors and pups is now zonked out in her basket. We have a basket in a playpen and it seems to be working fairly well so far.

BiteyShark · 29/12/2017 18:45

Totally outing to anyone at my vets (waves) but we now have staples in his paw pad to try and get it to stay closed. He was ever so good and only winced once.

Wolfiefan · 29/12/2017 19:41

Oh no. Ouch!

Paperdove87 · 29/12/2017 20:01

Ouch! Poor thing. Hope this is the thing which sets him on the final road to recovery. Brave dog!

BiteyShark · 29/12/2017 20:20

I really hope so as it's almost a week and it hadn't started to heal with just the glue and dressing. He has had so much done to him recently and he still lets us and the vets treat him even though it hurts.

bluetongue · 29/12/2017 20:37

Brave Biteydog. Hope the staples do the trick Smile

Wolfiefan · 29/12/2017 21:22

They're not daft. I think they understand we are trying to help. The staples were great for my cat. She ate her stitches when she was spayed. Had to be stapled as an emergency. It seemed to heal fast. Hoping for better news soon.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 29/12/2017 22:18

Thanks for all of your support. I now completely understand why this is the survival thread. Praying for more sleep tonight. I think I'll wake him about 2am then hope he goes until 6am. He managed 4 hours last night.

I hope the staples work Bitey and please don't leave the thread!! I hope two exclamation marks reflect the panic in my words Grin.

Wolfiefan · 29/12/2017 22:25

The early days and weeks were really hard for me. I sat up last night until about 11. But Wolfie slept in until 8 this morning. Bliss.
All the hard work now will pay off.

GooodMythicalMorning · 29/12/2017 22:52

What a brave boy! Hope he gets well soon Bitey.
Dont leave, we love all your wisdom!

Thanks all, just felt we were so old this morning with all the lovely new pups and a bit of an interloper. I like this thread as it's chatty and friendly and given BiteyDogs antics I need somewhere to moan Grin

He's sleeping next to me every night so I can watch for him biting his dressing and it's so nice getting a cuddle but not so nice having a wet nose shoved in my ear at 2am just to check I am still there Grin

KinkyDorito mine just did not sleep through and needed nocturnal pees so with the alarms at night and the worry and the relentlessness of it all I remember the sleep deprivation. Same as Wolfie though it gets better and now he settles around 7pm every night. I always wake him at 11pm for a quick pee/poo and this morning he let me sleep in till 7am.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 30/12/2017 06:34

I live in hope Smile. 3 times last night - he woke me. Bed and last wee at 10.30, then 12.30, 2, 4 and now up at 6. Had a wee or poo every time and then a good cry when I put him back. Neighbours are going to hate me! He is asleep right next to me and I'm on his level (in low bed) but that is not good enough 😃. I plan to have a nice, undisturbed nap today.

BiteyShark · 30/12/2017 06:47

KinkyDorito what do they say about babies, sleep when they sleep Grin.

The sleep deprivation is a killer and I used to want to poke people in the eye when they told me their pup slept soundly all night Envy
