What do you put in yours that keeps your dog occupied for more than 30 seconds?

Peanut butter

flippit81 · 16/11/2017 23:33

Soak kibble til its soft, stuff it in and then freeze it. Keeps pup busy for ages .

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/11/2017 23:35

Flip I’m so doing that with gravy and kibble good shout!

All sorts of bits... from tinned cat food, to soaked kibble, peanut butter, soft cheese, or that revolting primula cheese in a tube, add lumps of leftover meat, or chunks of raw carrot, some people use baby food, then freeze it. You can poke it a chew, mine love the tripe sticks just before freezing so they stick out a bit.

PantPlot · 16/11/2017 23:42

My dogs fave is Primula with Ham.

She's so eighties.

Willowfrost · 16/11/2017 23:48

Some Winalot shapes fit inside a Kong

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/11/2017 23:58

He would love primula!! Is that dead cheap?

OP posts:
Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/11/2017 23:59

Holy cow you can get primula with prawns in it!! Boak. Ddog will be in heaven for 1.50 according to Sainsbury’s. Bet it’s cheaper in aldi Grin

OP posts:
bear28 · 17/11/2017 00:11

Home bargains does primula for 90p or something I’m sure. It’s super cheap!!

LostForNow · 17/11/2017 00:13

Peanut butter in the end, then natural yogurt with semi- mashed bananas, chopped strawberries/ blueberries, more yogurt. then freeze.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 17/11/2017 00:35

Gosh lost that’s a bit fancy for a spaniel Grin

OP posts:
heidiwine · 17/11/2017 07:04

A carrot jammed in with one end sticking out. Keeps him busy for much longer that anything else I've tried to stuff in his kong! Also can't be doing with soft stuff because something always gets left in the tip!

rightsaidfrederickII · 17/11/2017 08:40

You might want to join the Canine Enrichment group on Facebook- they have lots of ideas for Kongs and more adventurous enrichment toys

missbattenburg · 17/11/2017 08:58

Anything we have going spare:
peanut butter
apple sauce
natural yogurt
cottage cheese
cubes of raw carrot or frozen peas
cubes of hot dog
kibble
little bits of roast meat from sunday
bananas or frozen berries
primula
any leftover pate we might have
tiny cubes of cheese if the end of the block has gone a bit dry for humans
mashed potato leftovers

I am basically scrounging leftovers and using them to stuff Kongs all the time Grin They then go in freezer till we're ready for them.

user1497997754 · 17/11/2017 09:28

Why do you freeze them......

missbattenburg · 17/11/2017 09:32

I freeze them to keep them fresh (we normally have about 10 stuffed Kongs at any one time, ready to go when needed) and because my dogs are Kong experts so freezing them means they have to lick everything out slowly and they take much, much longer....

Queenofthedrivensnow · 17/11/2017 10:17

Thank you so much few things on the list today :/) think I need to buy a few more kongs to keep on the go Grin

OP posts:
babyblackbird · 17/11/2017 13:24

The key is to freeze them because it takes them much much longer to get the stuff out as they basically have to lick it to defrost it. I couldn't understand the big deal about kongs cos my dog could dispatch a filled kong in under 10 minutes and then I found out about freezing them and it can take him over an hour of it's frozen solid.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 17/11/2017 14:27

So in aldi I have just bought him cheese spread and crab and beef paste to be mixed in with random left overs and frozen overnight - god he will be extra delighted thanks everyone

jigglytuff · 17/11/2017 14:35

I give my dog a frozen Kong whenever I go out for more than an hour. Totally distracts him.

DeepfriedPizza · 17/11/2017 14:38

Pizzapup gets her wet food frozen in her kong. It means she isn't getting any extra food but is keeping occupied

missbattenburg · 17/11/2017 14:38

Queenofthedrivensnow sounds delicious!!!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 17/11/2017 14:48

Jiggly this is the idea.

OP posts:
Queenofthedrivensnow · 17/11/2017 14:49

Missbattenburg - sounds like hell but he will like it

OP posts:
steppemum · 21/11/2017 12:19

we have foster dog at the moment.
he doesn't like being left at night and the rescue owner said try a kong.

he totally ignored it and sat by the stairgate and whined.
(he then crept upstairs and slept outside our bedroom door)
I though he might come back to it this morning, but he won't even sniff it!

It had some wet food and some dried mixed up in it
