What is it with pugs?

Didn't want to derail the "name the pug" thread by being unfriendly but I don't get the attraction. They are overbred to the point of being disastrously unhealthy from everything I've read and seen.

My daughter (6) loves them (sadly for her, we have the extreme opposite - a greyhound!) but I have told her we will never have one as the vets' bills would be sky high.

Frank - I think pugs are ugly buts that's just me, I'm used to to greyhounds which are a lot more elegant looking.

I think the point of this thread is that's it's upsetting seeing a dog that is struggling to breathe because it's been overbred to look a certain way. I'm not saying that applies to your dogs but any animal that is struggling upsets me.

Pugs really are so ugly. And they absolutely stink too...

Pugly dogs! Who shouldn't exist as basically in permanent respiratory distress, what a lovely state to keep an animal in!

Frank - fair point, I remember a couple of travellers eyeing up my boy whilst walking, said he was shit at running and had chronic kidney problems - they soon wandered off 😏. I love all dogs, no matter how they look.

I’m no pug fan both from an aesthetic pov and also because that cute snoring noise that people find so cute is actually them being unable to breathe properly 😏

However to those boasting proudly about how rude you are to other dog owners - just who the fuck do you think you are?!

Pugs have been bred for again their looks but again have serious health problems with breathing
I’m my opinion it is cruel to breed them due to the health conditions accociated with pugs
