He's gone to the vets for X-rays

He ran out on to the lane by our house and a pick up with a trailer hit him

I am devestated. The dc are quiet and asking when he is coming home

Vet just rang to say it's his back end and they will know more once he he had tests done.

Hand hold please while we wait....

Fingers crossed!

BillyDaveysDaughter · 19/10/2017 15:53

Gosh I'm sorry. Sad

Dogs are more resilient than they look, and the pelvis is surrounded by muscle, so repairing it ought to be a possibility. My cat broke her pelvis and actually knocked the top off her femur so her leg was dangling - she ended up right as rain.

Stay positive, but be prepared. Sending all good wishes your way. Flowers

Wolfiefan · 19/10/2017 16:00

I'm so sorry. Hoping for better news. Especially in such a young dog.

noitsnotteatimeyet · 19/10/2017 16:31

Fingers crossed the referral vet can help - our cat shattered his pelvis when he was hit by a car three years ago and I’ve just watched him charging around the garden chasing leaves. It cost a LOT to get him fixed (thank goodness we had insurance but even so we maxed that out and still had more to pay) and the recovery took three months but to look at him now you wouldn’t know he’s held together with bits of metal. Flowers for you and dog Biscuit for your invalid

onemorecakeplease · 19/10/2017 19:56

Okay update time

Horrible day waiting to hear from the vets but he has been referred for surgery to a specialist clinic down south.

We collect him tomorrow morning and drive there and he'll stay all weekend after having two pelvic fractures and one leg repaired.

The vet warned us he might need two surgeries but we will see.

Thankfully we have platinum cover insurance which will cover the fees.

I haven't been able to see him yet as the vet said he tries to get up when the nurses go in so not to excite him. but I went over and left my tshirt I wore today and his teddy.

I'm researching physio and hydro therapy for when he is better.

Fingers crossed all goes well and thanks for all the lovely comments and hearing success
Stories has really helped today x

Bless you.. In tears reading this. It if they thought no hope they wouldn't try. Fingers crossed he's young and bouncy enough to survive this surgery. Xxxx

JonSnowsWhore · 19/10/2017 19:59

Sounds like he’s in the best possible hands, and I mean yours as well as the vets! Best of luck for his travels tomorrow & his recovery x

PandorasXbox · 19/10/2017 20:01

Fingers crossed for him OP.

BillyDaveysDaughter · 19/10/2017 20:07

Oh his teddy made me cry Sad

Are you seeing an orthopaedic surgeon - is it Ralph Abercromby in Surrey? My dog saw him before she went to Noel Fitzpatrick for her spinal op.

All the best for the trip. X

onemorecakeplease · 19/10/2017 20:31

No we live in Scotland so it's a borders vet called east neuk of fife which is where all the vets here send their ortho cases.

I met some people on the road while I was out scouting for the vehicle who hit him and their dog was taken there and they said it's wonderful. And the farmer told me his dog has been too.

I've had a visit tonight from the employer of the man who hit him and he has been lovely - offering to help etc.

The lady from the clinic was lovely on the phone and said try not to worry they do this all the time and my insurance will be more than Enough. So that was very reassuring.

He's 11 months and he is a mixed breed. I'll post a photo now that I know there is hope.

Paws crossed. A young dog getting the best treatment. Certainly sounds like hope.
Hydrotherapy is great for after surgery. Not immediately I know. Really hoping for good news.
Take care of yourself OP. Hope he's back in your arms and bouncing around soon.

Aww he's lovely. Oh when you said down south, I thought you meant way, way down south! Yes I guess Surrey would be a stretch Grin

So glad there is a plan. Good luck. Flowers

Therealslimshady1 · 19/10/2017 21:05

Oh those eyes !

Hope he recovers soon

Poor dog, poor you!

tabulahrasa · 19/10/2017 21:13

I've used them... I'm pretty sure vet's refer to them because they're good - as in, they're a fair distance from me as well, but I'm in east distance to Edinburgh and Glasgow vet schools and have been referred to both of those for other conditions, but to that ortho for that.

Floralnomad · 19/10/2017 21:25

That all sounds very positive , and he looks lovely . Best wishes for a speedy recovery .
