I've only ever had big dogs up until now, but DD wanted a small one. So a mini-dachshund X joined the pack recently and OMG I'm overwhelmed with how brill it is to have the sprat!

He can:

  • be picked up when needed rather than herded and cajoled
  • sit on your lap (although the big ones also think they can and always seem surprised that bits of them fall over the edge)
  • be walked by DD
  • and cutest of all, he doesn't have an elegant lope like the other 2 he just waddles along

I knew I'd love him but I didn't know how much I'd love having such a small fellow around the place. When you stroke him you run out of dog Smile

Aw! Pic? We've always had medium sized dogs but I love smaller ones too. Big dogs freak me out with how much space they need!

Pombliboo123 · 04/08/2017 11:54

I love all dogs from tiny to medium to big to ginormous.

BUT I have a special place in my heart for the teeny ones.

My little one is a Pomeranian and she weighs 2 kilos. She's like a precious dainty little delicate flower and I can pick her up and put her on my knee and stroke her and when she gives "paw" it feels like a teeny little flower has been placed on your hand rather than the bigger one (still only 8 kilos but still) who slams his paw onto your hand full force.

I love small dogs

I don't have the strength to battle a large dog so small is perfect for me

I have a chihuahua and she may be small but she's got enough energy to be counted as a big dog!

She walks for miles, plays for hours and when tired can snuggle on my knee.

She's very obedient too and has lots of off lead play

I will never go for a large dog after having tinies

I've always had bigger dogs (Springers, labs, retrievers) until I got my wee lass 9 months ago - she weighs 8 kilos and I pick her up for the escalators. She's so adorable and bouncy, and she swishes along when she walks.

I luffs her so much. I even let her on the bed as she's so clean and doesn't fart. My last dog was a massive farter.

Gorgeous OP!

SPARKS17 · 04/08/2017 12:06

So cute!

You missed off your list the crucial.....small dog, small poos! So much easier to pick up and dispose of!

LinoleumBlownapart · 04/08/2017 12:07

I love little dogs. We fostered two mini pinschers in a row and I was taken in. Now we have a yorkie-pinscher puppy (for keeps), he's my little teddy bear. I was used to big dogs. But now I'm converted.

We've been saying exactly the same this week!
I am very much a big dog person ( and capable of picking up a 30kg retriever to sit on my knee) but for the last few weeks we've fostered a teeny working cocker. She's so portable, I have to resist the urge to carry her everywhere like a teddy bear 😬

Rebecca - lovely little dog. Another dishwasher sitter! Ours does this too, waiting for all those yummy dirty dishes she hopes to get a chance to lick.

mistlethrush · 04/08/2017 12:52

I knew a norfolk terrier / pom cross who was delightful (and used to run round in miny circles when she got excited). Too many small dogs are not taught that they shouldn't yap though which tends to put me off a bit!

Iamblossom · 04/08/2017 16:59

I could have written your post. And I have one that looks exactly the same!

Iamblossom · 04/08/2017 17:00

completely in love with her

Iamblossom · 04/08/2017 17:01

have you found a harness that fits? The one I have is too big round her neck

Floralnomad · 04/08/2017 17:15

What is she crossed with , she's very cute .

Floralnomad · 04/08/2017 17:16

Not sure you should put her through the dishwasher though .

Soubriquet · 04/08/2017 17:18

Blossom
I found one that fitted my 12 week old pup with no problem. It is very teeny tiny though

Hazelnutwhirls · 04/08/2017 17:26

Mine is a shih Tzu poodle cross weighs 5kgs and the perfect fit harness is perfect!!!!

Mrskeats · 04/08/2017 17:31

I've always had big dogs and now have a big loopy lurcher and tiny puppy
It's brilliant

FloralNomad his dad was a mini-dachshund, mother a normal one crossed with a JRT so he's a bit of a mix!

Blossom it's a Doodlebone - one of those soft ones that go around the chest. He looks very smart in it - and then he starts waddling Smile

I've always had big cross bred muscly staffies, and still have a mastiff staffy cross, and always said I didn't want a little dog. But we got a french bulldog this year and I have fallen completely in love! He walks with me when we're out (only because his little legs don't get him much further), and he is a complete cuddle MONSTER and loves being picked up! I've been convinced - I love a little dog Grin
