Used two towels to dry hairy giant pup yesterday. I have seen a coat that works as a towel in wet weather and cooling coat in hot weather. May add it to the list of things to buy.
When we got her I thought of stuff like lead and collar and tag and food and bowls.
Now I have dog bedroom blackout curtains, chews galore, a dog toy bucket (overflowing) treats hidden in most cupboards, dog walking bags (plural) and water bottles (the same), clickers (I don't use anymore) and a whistle (hmmm recall), a bloody great cage, mats for the floor (slip hazard), a poo bin in the garden, chair and fishing umbrella for shows, ringclip for same, grooming brush, towels, vet fleece galore, ramp for the car, new sat nav for shows and days out oh and a bloody expensive new mahoosive car to fit giant pup.
Can a dog be more expensive than a child? At least she doesn't wear shoes! Grin

Also today: pup threw up this morning, and First Dog smeared poo into the carpet [rubbed his bum on it]. First Dog still has that rash - it seems to be permanent now.

And I've discovered pup has incredibly waxy itchy ears. Doesn't seem quite normal. I do sometimes wonder what the hell we've done...

wolfie actually, you can get shoes for dogs Smile

Wolfiefan · 05/06/2017 23:14

Nooooo! Don't add to the shopping list alias!
Had a vet check of ears and itchy? Any chance of an infection?

BiteyShark · 06/06/2017 06:14

Thanks Wolf for reminding me that I haven't bought any dog toys for ages (off to browse Amazon)

Soubriquet · 06/06/2017 06:23

What breed is your pup alias?

I only ask because some breeds with floppy ears need their ears plucking from the inside to stop the build up of wax and infection.

By plucking I mean some dogs get hair growing inside the ear and it has to be removed

Wolf, do you have a brand name/link for that dog coat. Cocopup would get too hot for a coat generally but in teeming rain situations would be good. Does anyone use the dog dry bag things?

Cocobananas · 06/06/2017 07:25

While I'm on, are we too old for puppy thread now or can we still hover....Cocopup 1 year old today

Awww happy birthday cocopup Cake

AmIAWeed · 06/06/2017 09:12

Happy Birthday Cocopup!
We still need regular updates to assure us the puppy stage will pass!!

aliasjoey · 06/06/2017 09:17

Happy birthday cocopup!

soubriquet they are both poodles, and I do pluck their ears but don't remember First Dogs ever being that waxy.

Pup still limping but seems happy to go up and down stairs etc. Took a flying leap off the sofa without a whimper. I've got a really busy day with appointments so will have to postpone vets. Due to pick up flea treatment tomorrow, so if he's still not right I can take him then.

And I'll have to buy a bigger bed, because pup really likes to sleep with First Dog, and there's not quite room for both (he tries anyway, and clambers on top of poor FD)

bluetongue · 06/06/2017 09:59

All pups welcome here. Happy birthday lovely Cocopup Smile

Wolfiefan the money side of it is slightly painful for me. Have had to add TV remote control to the list of damaged items today. Hope I can actually find a replacement one to buy!

Daycare have informed be he gets his pricey new coat off so will need to buy some kind of doggy jumper he can't ditch. I swear he's had more money spent on his clothes than mine lately Shock

Soubriquet · 06/06/2017 10:18

If you was a toddler shoe...where would your puppy hide you? Hmm

Puppy's first experience of walking in the rain today.. She virtually refused to walk, digging her heels into the pavement! I ended up only doing half the normal route as was almost dragging her along. Should I force her? Or is that doing more harm than good?

Soubriquet · 06/06/2017 12:04

Ah I'm not sure

I've started being firmer with Lexa and making her walk when she starts digging her heels in.

It does work and she gets lots of praise when she walks.

But I can also tell when she really doesn't want to walk usually the first 10 minutes so I'll carry her for that. Then I expect her to walk and giving her a pull every now and then works. But on some more delicate dogs, they mind find it traumatic. I know my JRT would have found it disturbing and he was too heavy for me to carry all the time which is why I bought him the dog buggy

@Cocobananas
I'm afraid the one I have in mind is on a wolfhound merchandise page! Bit specific!!
Lots of them on Amazon that seem to get good reviews.
So glad you found that shoe!
Daisy. Mine will walk in rain but was petrified of the wind today.

AmIAWeed · 06/06/2017 13:25

Oh for goodness sake - it would appear I am an idiot.
Just been round spraying the house with flea spray, despite Daniel having his flea treatment I still find the odd one, cat is highly allergic and showing no signs so whilst I don't think we've an infestation I still thought I should spray to be on the safe side....except I sprayed in my office, hall, bathroom, kitchen, utility....most rooms, thought my chest was getting tight and read ALL the instructions...not just the hold 30cm away and spray. Realised I'm supposed to ventilate the property for at least one hour. Thank god I didn't spray the lounge, we're all now hiding in the lounge and left windows open everywhere else.

Soubriquet · 06/06/2017 14:07

Just managed to get Lexa to eat a good handful of biscuits.

In a bowl? No
From my hand? No
Scattering them one at a time on the floor? Must be the new trendy way to eat

Cocobananas · 06/06/2017 14:57

Thanks for birthday good wishes. Was going to take her on her favourite walk this morning but it is hilly and I didn't fancy battling the wind so decided to stay local. Did go to PAH though for a couple of new balls including a motorised one, this will either be brilliant fun or a complete let down. She doesn't seem to mind the wind but didn't want to be out in the garden without me.

SkeletonSkins · 06/06/2017 16:45

Soub scattering them on the floor works for my puppy too!!

Happy birthday Cocopup! You have reached the other side - tell they suddenly switch to perfect adult dog mode?

Blue we don't know, people have fun guessing though. I think terrier x a bit of whippet. He walks very like a whippet and his nature is whippet like.

BiteyShark · 06/06/2017 16:50

Soubriquet mine went through a long period of only eating his kibble from a kong wobbler. However, the last week or so he had decided he will now just eat from his bowl. He is forever changing the goal posts.

Everyone's dogs look lovely in their pictures.

DaisyChainsForever · 06/06/2017 20:56

Wolfiefan - i think you might be right, wasn't raining this eve but really windy and she was still a nightmare!
