Hope you are ok. Have they given a diagnosis yet? Is there any improvement today?

It depends on the skills of the vets in your practice - but if they don't have a medicine specialist and there is still no diagnosis, you may be best with referral, if you can afford it. Alternatively have a proper discussion with the vet about the plans and prognosis. Try and stay calm and if possible take someone along to discuss it with. Euthanasia is often the kindest option so don't feel bad if that ends up being the outcome.

Hi Vegan just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and your poor old boy Flowers

Vegansnake · 09/03/2017 19:13

Hi carefree and violet....so yesterday they insisted he needed a scan.i said I didn't want him messed with,he's been in a cage on a drip 3 days and nights now..I said I want to let him go...the scan didn't show anything.but the vet and I agreed we would pts if he worsened.so they phoned me this morning to say some things were slightly better, one thing much worse.and could I come in to discuss.i assumed this meant pts,got myself in a right state ,spoke to mum pil and bf.all said let him go,he's suffered enough..so I went to the vets asked to see my dog and held him and said my good byes..then waited for a free vet...however vet says no to pts.and he must have 2 more days on the drip ,then come home to see if kidneys can function, then go back in for more tests. Then he has to start treatment for Cushing disease, but that is steroids and can't be given to a dog in renal failure...so how can he ever be well with two illnesses, where the medication for one ,makes the other worse.vet says no guarantees and I must wait till Saturday..now I'm furious with myself for listening to friends ,in laws and mum,and feel like a shit, for trying to pts ..we have full insurance of up to £4000 for every illness.we have 3 claims in and on going for 3 different illnesses...I can't see how this is going to end other than pts..but vet wants to keep trying.

Oh Snake! My heart goes out to you.

Don't feel bad. It's your and only your decision. Don't feel bad for trying to PTS a dog in this condition, it really can be the best for them.

Violetcharlotte · 09/03/2017 20:17

Ah this is all so sad, my heart goes out to you as you must be feeling absolutely awful. There's nothing anyone can say that will make you feel better, but I think you have to trust your gut and do what you think is right. I'm so sorry x

Vegansnake · 09/03/2017 20:23

Thanks both of you..just waiting for Saturday now...maybe he will recover as the vet hopes ,and he can come home..the vet said hes not had a dog with renal failure and Cushing before..so it's all a bit up in the air..

So sorry to read you have lost him. One of the hardest decisions we have to make. My thoughts are with you.

Vegansnake · 13/03/2017 13:41

Thankyou shambolica,I keep crying all the time, all sorts of things remind me of him..he was nearly ,10 the day I brought him home as a puppy was just like each time I brought a child home from hospital,he was wrapped in a blanket all skinny and small on my lap.how quick he learnt that hurry up meant to wee,not once did we see an ounce of aggression in him.he was the best family pet a family could wish for...rest in peace my boy x
