Just wondering whether anyone else has got a puppy recently and in the same boat as us? Interested to hear how how others are getting on.

We've had our 8 week old puppy for a few days now and things are okay... he's a complete cross of lots of different breeds so enjoying trying to work out what in him!

House training seems to go great and then at night he just sits there in the middle of the grass not wanting to even walk around! Never mind wee!

Our older dog isn't particularly impressed but has been good with him so far. Just looking forward to him sleeping through the night without needing a wee. Completely forgot how having a puppy completely takes over your life for a little while!

Skeleton sounds like your puppy just has found his confidence at the puppy parties. Mine was very confident in those situations but outside would still do the submissive greetings to other dogs.

I think I am hitting the next stage in growth. Wonder if he is having a hormone surge as to put it bluntly with tmi his balls seem to have developed and he is more defiant and I am having to be very clear with commands as he seems to have deliberately forgotten them. Seems a bit too early for teenager strop and he hasn't cocked his leg yet to scentmark but not looking forward to the next few months if this is a taster of things to come Grin Think I will need lots of Gin when he gets to teenager stroppy stage.

To make you all feel better this has been my morning so far

Dog has been looming about since 7.30. Went down the garden with him. He managed to find the dead frog 🐸 I took off him yesterday. ran away from me when I told him to drop it. Into the house. Finally dropped it when I grabbed him. I trod on it. In the lounge. Have mopped all through. Dog chased the mop as I was mopping. Nightmare. He has finally calmed down. Going out in bit to get grout to try and finish my bathroom.
Wish me luck. I'm going to need it today!

BiteyShark · 01/04/2017 08:45

Oh no Funky, hope you managed to clear up all remains of the frog [boak]. I have to put DDog away in the crate when I mop otherwise I would not have a mop left :(

Catdogcat · 01/04/2017 08:50

Please can I join??

Getting a 3 month old French bulldog puppy today.

I'm a first time dog owner but my husband isn't.

Feeling nervous as I want to do the best for him.

BiteyShark · 01/04/2017 08:56

Catdogcat it's both exciting and terrifying at the same time isn't it Grin

Funkymoover · 01/04/2017 10:07

Honestly I don't know how I didn't Vom. All gone now.
If he liked the crate more I would have put him in there while I mopped. He got bonked on the head a few times as he got in the way (not intentionally) so I'm hoping that will put him off next time!

BiteyShark · 01/04/2017 10:10

Haha I love hoovering as mine starts stalking the hoover and pouncing on it but then doesn't know what to do next so runs away. They are so funny (when they aren't being naughty) Grin

SkeletonSkins · 01/04/2017 10:33

Well it's very rainy this morning and Toby did not particularly enjoy his trip to the beach ha! He was great with the other dogs and had a good run around but happy to be back in the car and now in front of the fire!

Good luck getting your puppy today catcatdog, pictures are compulsory!

RIP mr frog ha they do test us don't they.

Skeletons shame about the weather, its been raining on and off all day here too. At least summer is coming :)

Apart from a morning walk we have not been out. DDog has spent all day trying to chew a 'beef neck tendon' which I am hoping does not cause any tummy issues as it didn't seem fatty and kept him quiet all day (the poor boy must have jaw ache he was at it for so long).

LionSock · 02/04/2017 21:02

Hi catdog how did your first day with your puppy go?

Aw skin, is your puppy still scared of your dad? Hopefully your puppy will like the beach next time if it's a nice day.

Bitey, I'm sure I remember reading earlier on in the thread that you managed to get your vet to give your puppy his second vaccinations earlier? My puppy is wriggling and whining every time we go out because he wants to get down. We've still got another 3 weeks yet. I don't know if I can wait that long!

We are starting to get proper puppy zoomies here. He goes absolutely mental I love watching him but not the crazy biting that goes with it.

We've now had 3 days without any accidents in the house! Yay!

Dottymum2 · 02/04/2017 21:16

She's gorgeous love the name, cockapoo?

Dottymum2 · 02/04/2017 21:18

Sorry meant for Jenny70 didn't realise I was back on the first age of the thread d'oh Confused

Catdogcat · 02/04/2017 21:33

He's been brilliant. Walked on lead fine, not scared of other dogs.

Knows his name and responds.

Only had one accident in the house which I think is great.

Overall he's very chilled, but that might be a breed thing.

He didn't cry all night either which I was expecting.

Catdogcat · 02/04/2017 21:34

Oh, but he is terrified of the mop! So I've just been gradually moving it into the kitchen where his bed etc is so he can get used to it,

Is that the right thing to do?,

SkeletonSkins · 02/04/2017 23:17

Definitely the right thing to do catcatdog, and maybe occaisonalyl leave a sausage just waiting by the scary mop too!

Yes Lion still terrified of my dad. I asked the puppy class people about it and they suggested taking SkeletonPup round to his as the decorating equipment might have frightened him so he might be better in a different context. Going to try that this week as I've now got two weeks off.

Vaccinations - we were able to get one set at 8 weeks, second set at 10 weeks and then we were out and about. Definitely ring and see if they can do it any earlier.

Why is it always the moment you think 'wow, not had accident in ages, really thing we've cracked toilet training now' that you notice a secret poo in the corner.... how do they manage these stealth poos honestly.

OP posts:
LionSock · 03/04/2017 06:14

Skeleton why oh why did you say secret poo in the corner?! Because that's exactly what I found this morning Grin that's weird about your dad. But hopefully you'll sort it out soon.

Lionpup is 10 weeks only now so it's quite annoying to know that we could be out next week but we've got another 3 weeks to go. I'm definitely going to ring them today.

I'm pleased it's going well catdog. One accident is brilliant! Hopefully he will conquer his fear of the mop!

BiteyShark · 03/04/2017 07:12

Lion yes I managed to get the vets to split the vaccinations.

Puppy came at 8 weeks with 1st vaccination and vet said he would do the next lot at 12 weeks.

I asked if there was any way we could have them earlier as I would be bouncing off the walls not being able to go out. He then split it so we had one at 10 weeks which meant he could be walked on the road 1 week after.

The last one (l4) was given at 12 weeks which meant he could then he walked in the forest and boggy areas 2 weeks after that.

BiteyShark · 03/04/2017 08:35

Oh no I think I might have to start a 'adolescence stage puppy survival' thread soon. Googling suggests this is the time my dog (being small-medium breed) may regress and have 'issues' with his hormones and behaviour and it is happening. Think I need to order more wine and have a lie down Sad

BiteyShark · 03/04/2017 08:45

Laughing at the secret poo's ( just don't step in them Wink )

Jenny70 · 03/04/2017 10:24

Yes we got an early finish at 10w and then waited two weeks for vaccinations to work/respond... so we were on the streets at 12w. Been great, she's benefited greatly from being able to socialise.

Might have cracked the food situation, but waiting to see for few days before being completely confident etc.

LionSock · 03/04/2017 11:00

Thanks bitey. I rang the vets and spoke to the secretary. She said they could give them early but don't like to. She's going to speak to the vet and see what he says. I'm dreading the teenager stage already! What breed is your puppy again?

Sorry I've got another question! Did any of you go for the kennel cough vaccine? I get it free because of the monthly fee I pay to my vets for worming/vacs/flea stuff ect but is it worth it? I'm edging towards not giving it to him...

Luckily I've never stood in a secret poo, but now you've said it, I bet I do! Grin

LionSock · 03/04/2017 11:03

Sorry Jenny just seen your post too. Do different brands need to be given at different times or is it just down to individual vets does anyone know?

Fingers crossed your puppy stays okay with the new food.

BiteyShark · 03/04/2017 11:05

Lion my dog is a spaniel. I got kennel cough vaccination in case I needed to put him in kennels in an emergency. Apparently some kennels require you to have it at least 1-2 weeks before they will let you board with them.

LionSock · 03/04/2017 11:07

I love this picture. It's so hard to get a decent picture of him as he's so black! Sorry about the pjs Grin

Thanks bitey. That is actually a really good point. I don't have to decide yet so I still have time to think about it.
