Just wondering whether anyone else has got a puppy recently and in the same boat as us? Interested to hear how how others are getting on.

We've had our 8 week old puppy for a few days now and things are okay... he's a complete cross of lots of different breeds so enjoying trying to work out what in him!

House training seems to go great and then at night he just sits there in the middle of the grass not wanting to even walk around! Never mind wee!

Our older dog isn't particularly impressed but has been good with him so far. Just looking forward to him sleeping through the night without needing a wee. Completely forgot how having a puppy completely takes over your life for a little while!

totallyliterally gorgeous puppy! Bet you can't wait - they grow up so fast!

Sorted all the puppy stuff today, so crate set up in kitchen and another in the car. And the labels cut off all the toys.

SO. MANY. TOYS.

bag packed for collecting her.

bluetongue · 15/05/2017 10:04

Good luck totally Smile

Bluepuppy is getting bigger and playing rougher. He's gone from shy puppy to the other extreme. It seems he doesn't realise that he's smaller than most dogs. On Sunday I had to stop him playing with a fully grown cocker spaniel. The other dog wasn't being over the top with bluepuppy but I was worried about the size difference.

ANyone else got a rain hating pup?

I get the puppy eyes stared up at me whilst she stands and shivers as she gets wet and tries to hide where ever she can.

She's being very stubborn with her toileting today

She must be weeing somewhere in the house because she can't be holding it for this long but I can't see any wee spots

BiteyShark · 15/05/2017 12:27

Mine used to hate the rain and tip toe round puddles as a puppy. So much I stopped waking him in the rain as he was miserable. Unfortunately he now likes the hurl himself into any river or stream :(

Soubriquet · 15/05/2017 14:54

I left Lexa puppy at home today whilst I popped Ds to nursery

Only gone a maximum of 10 mins but I left her loose again instead of locking in the crate. Came Home to her fast asleep and I got a half arsed tail wag when I walked through.

Pretty chuffed with that

SkeletonSkins · 15/05/2017 18:39

Awwww what a lovely result Soubriquet! And my puppy hates the rain too - in fact I was so annoyed before because I let him out TWICE and he wouldn't go, just kept running inside. Then he ran inside and pooed in my living room!!! He's not had an accident for agesssss but he hates the rain.

Puppy class for me tonight. Exhausted and could do without it!

PuppyDog has regularly been waking at 430 am, going out for the toilet and being WIDE awake, it takes about an hour to settle him, only for him to wake at 6am - so a 30 minutes snooze when my husbands alarm goes off. Last night we moved his crate into the bedroom so I could at least be in a warm bed whilst having my hand near his crate to settle him, and he slept through (yay)
only for my poo head of a husbands alarm to go off at 6am again. PuppyDog woke up, full of beans wanting the toilet and a play
I should point out, whilst his alarm goes off at 6am, he doesn't get up at 6am, it goes off every 10 minutes until around 7am.
PuppyDogs first sleep through (that wasn't induced because of his jabs) and I am shattered!
Is it wrong for me to put PuppyDogs poo in my husbands side of the bed for revenge???

MrsWineasaurus · 16/05/2017 08:30

Had a hard day with Chase yesterday, accidents galore indoors despite taking him out. I'm guessing he also has a problem with rain!

He's gonna have to get used to it if not I'm moving to Spain!! 😂

Soubriquet · 16/05/2017 08:42

Where's my nice calm pup gone?! Hmm

She's a complete loon now. Gets everything she knows she's not supposed to have and then legs it. And she's bloody quick too.

bluetongue · 16/05/2017 08:47

I'm going through a challenging stage with Bluepuppy. He is WILD and has seemingly boundless reserves of energy. He's taken to leaping into the air towards me in play and in all honestly I find it a bit intimidating.

There is also the issue that I thought long and hard before I got him as to whether to get a dog for the first time or stick with cats. I know cats and I'm familiar with them but I'm stuck in a bit of a rut with my life and decided that having a more social pet would be a good thing for me.

I'm sure we'll be fine but I'm feeling like I'm going through a bit of an 'OMG what have I done' stage with him.

bluetongue · 16/05/2017 09:22

Before anyone asks, yes, I am feeling depressed at the moment. Not sure if it's my chronic depression flaring up, being pre menstrual or a bit of both. Guess I a,do really just miss my dearly departed kitty curling up my lap and purring away Sad

It doesn't help that my work is fucking chaos at the moment either.

Bless Bluepuppy, he's now calmed down and curled up on my shoulder Smile

AmIAWeed · 16/05/2017 09:38

bluetongue I think everyone has a moment (or several) where they wonder if they've made a giant mistake...but it happens with most things and is totally natural, at least it shows you are thinking about the involvement and work involved as opposed to assuming it'll get better.
My current concerns that make me wonder if this will all be ok?
My husband is shorter tempered than I and useless at settling puppy
The kids are not listening to instructions, puppydog thinks its all a game and keeps nipping particularly my daughter.
But I know the things im worried about, and it means I dont let the kids watch puppydog (11 and 13 not toddlers) and make sure Im training not my husband.
Think about what worries you and im sure we can all offer possible solutions or at the very least a safe place to rant x

BiteyShark · 16/05/2017 09:50

blue I still have the omg what have I done moments. Mine is a pain in the arse when we take him out and has just got his own poo all over him as he had clearly ate something not organic and stringy so he kept leaping about whilst pooing as it scared him. Then he rolled around in some other poo requiring both him and I to take a shower on our return. It is days like this I think my pre dog life was so nice Sad

Keep posting and we will all get through it together Grin

bluetongue · 16/05/2017 09:51

Thanks for the reply AmIAWeed. Funny you should mention your husband because I've wondered if having a partner instead of being a 'single puppy mum' would make thing easier but I guess sometimes not. My parents gave been awesome helping with him though.

I'm so glad I've found a doggy day care to take him to. Shame it's on Friday though instead of the middle of the week. They also have their grounds available to club members on Sunday every week so I take him for a run and play with other vaccinated dogs.

Does anyone else have a book eating puppy? He must have grabbed it out of my bedroom bookshelf this morning. It has been shredded and spread around the backyard.

Soubriquet · 16/05/2017 09:54

Anything paper is potentially chewable here Hmm

We are dropping her food down now to 2 meals a day.

She's not fussed by breakfast anymore and barely touches tea so I'm going to stop giving her dinner and see I feed she starts eating proper meals again. So one at breakfast and one at tea time

bluetongue · 16/05/2017 09:54

Love the poo story Bitey Grin

Soubriquet · 16/05/2017 09:57

Oh god you've reminded me of when one of my old dogs rolled in a dead rotting fish...

Took 3!! Baths to get her smelling ok

AmIAWeed · 16/05/2017 10:01

No to the books but I did hand PuppyDog a pile of documents for shredding yesterday - I'd like to see someone piece it all back together now!!
Really though having a partner isn't always helpful - unless you are both totally in tune with what you want to do. A friend with a puppy is exasperated with her partner feeding the dog from his plate so he begs, then of course there was last night when my husband kindly 'watched ' puppy for half an hour for me.....whilst I cooked tea, I'd rather have sat on the sofa cuddling the puppy than the 'rest' he gave me.
Men smell worse than puppy farts and for me is an extra child.... Grin

bluetongue · 16/05/2017 10:01

Puppy school told us this week that anything that used to be a tree is irresistible so I can't say I wasn't warned Grin

At least I'm not like the woman at puppy school that is still spreading puppy pads all through the house for her small white fluffy puppy. I just wanted to shout at her 'throw out the fucking puppy pads stupid woman and put the effort into taking your puppy outside'!

Interesting about the meals Soubiquet. I've just cut down from 4 meals to three at 12 weeks but he'd eat all day given half a chance. His 12 week jabs are on Saturday so I'm going to ask the vet if Bluepuppy is looking a bit chubby for a Whippet puppy.

Soubriquet · 16/05/2017 10:04

She's a gannet for human food, but her food it's "I'll eat it if I must"

So at 12 weeks she wil very having 2 meals. If she still looks hungry around dinner time I'll slip her a meal but I think she will be fine.

This is the first dog I've not used puppy pads with actually and she's almost fully trained in 9 days. Amazing really

BiteyShark · 16/05/2017 10:14

I had to help him get the string thing from his bottom as well. Really, what has my life come to Confused

And he then ran off because we have lost recall. It's a good job he is lovely round the house Grin

My dog isn't a breakfast eater so I just give it him and if he doesn't want it he gets offered it again at dinner.

PetraDelphiki · 16/05/2017 10:57

Interesting that you are thinking down to 2 meals at 12 weeks / I thought that they needed 3 until 6 months but pup is definitely not a big eater and leaves half of his so wondering if 2 might be better (15 weeks)

BiteyShark · 16/05/2017 11:08

Think we are going to hit the 1000 post mark so someone with a young puppy might want to start another thread Grin

I used to do 3 meals a day until around the 6 month mark when I went to 2 but it was a struggle to get him to eat towards the end as he would prefer to play or sleep instead. Even now at 2 meals I sometimes wonder if 1 would be better.
