Just wondering whether anyone else has got a puppy recently and in the same boat as us? Interested to hear how how others are getting on.

We've had our 8 week old puppy for a few days now and things are okay... he's a complete cross of lots of different breeds so enjoying trying to work out what in him!

House training seems to go great and then at night he just sits there in the middle of the grass not wanting to even walk around! Never mind wee!

Our older dog isn't particularly impressed but has been good with him so far. Just looking forward to him sleeping through the night without needing a wee. Completely forgot how having a puppy completely takes over your life for a little while!

Mine are 10 months and have only just got Potty training 🤞🏻. That said, the back door is always open and they get taken out every 10 mins when it's not. They aren't trusted alone in the house as they chew everything!! The grassy area of the garden looks like a pit as they are trying to dog to Australia!! I'm sure it will get better but there are times I just want to cry!!!

Hi all, I think I need this thread! Am the proud mum of a twelve week old french bulldog pup - his name is Pablo Smile

I am completely and utterly besotted - did NOT see that coming! I told the kids last week that I think I love him more than them (to be fair, they're 16 and 18 and don't really need me much anymore Grin )

He's pretty good at sleeping through the night, but toilet training is a horror. I am picking up poos left right and centre! It seems like it's raining ALL the time and he won't go out even if it's drizzling...

I can't wait for him to have his second set of jabs next week so I can take him out with Benson, our long-suffering 10 year old mastiff/staffy cross - he has taken to him really well, but just looks so weary all the time Sad I do feel a bit guilty. It's fab to see everyone else's babies on here and to read that I'm not the only one having difficulties!

Furrymuff he is beautiful!!

BiteyShark · 08/03/2017 18:25

I used to moan that I should have got a summer puppy after standing out in the cold and rain all the time but now I am glad it was over winter as by summer he should be much bigger and calmer and be more of a joy to sit with outside.

That said we don't really have much grass left with his running and peeing on it :(

sotiredbutworthit · 08/03/2017 19:41

We had summer pups! Swings and roundabouts really!

SkeletonSkins · 08/03/2017 23:26

Ahhhh lovely to see so many lovey pups, and definitely be reassured that everyone is finding it hard! I don't think anyone is on her saying it's been an easy ride at all so I'm just hoping that it all works out as most people seem happy with their adult dogs so it must do at some point!!

Definitely know the feeling of dismay when you leave them for ten mins and there's a level of destruction you hadn't even imagined could happen. Or when you realise they've been missing or out of sight for ten minutes and you just KNOW. It really is constant and I think that's hard.

Toilet training got to the point for me where If he didn't go outside but I knew he must need it, he was on a lead when he came back in and outside again every ten mins. It does feel like luck/chance but we found treats really helped us, even if not recommended.

Bitey our grass is a disgrace and I've had to buy a he mop for the kitchen floor as I wore the old one out.

furry know how you feel about the older dog looking weary but my two are really starting to bond which I NEVER expected as older dog not a huge fan of other dogs and thought it would take much longer for him to warm up.

This too shall pass guys! And at least they're cute when they're asleep... does anyone else's puppy go out like a light? Our older dog seems to doze and opens his eyes if he hears anything, but the pup is dead to the world once he's asleep!! And all cute and floppy.

If it weren't for puppy eyes and sleepy snuggles we'd probably all trade them in!!

For Molly, she will pee and poop outside, if we happen to be there. Occasionally she will take herself out through the dog door, but often sneaks to a quiet spot for a bit of relief.

LexieLulu it's that 10min of being busy they take SUCH advantage. Sneaky things.

Owlish · 09/03/2017 11:01

Had Tilly at puppy socialsation last night and spoke to one of the vets about the peeing thing. She said the umbilical cord I was using was probably far too long, so puppy was peeing because she could get too far away from me, but I'm to get a pee sample to take in for testing. Also, the restraining reaction was quite normal, especially for a JRT, as she isn't in any pain and was probably more to do with fear than aggression (I gave a demonstration!). This particular vet grew up with JRTs and has had her own. Vet said Tilly was particularly feisty for the breed, just my luck!

We had a breakthrough with toilet training yesterday. Tilly went to the door, came back, then when I asked if she wanted to go outside - which she understands - she went back to the door and pawed it, so I took her out and she pooed immediately!

The one asleep is the one who did the damage!!

It's days like this that make the puppy period all worth while in the end. Just been for a nice long walk in the forest and now he is back on his bed having a snooze.

Eliza22 · 09/03/2017 13:34

"This too shall pass...". Yep, and then you get this ...

Oh, and this ... 😊😊😊

Booboostwo · 09/03/2017 19:20

Well done Owlish! JRTs certainly feel like they wrote the rule book and you have to follow it. My chap (he's 9 now) lost his very reliable recall at 4yo! Four years old and on the long line, it was a disgrace!

What a cute face furry!

Monty is 80% thee with toilet training. He poos 4-5 times a day and pees a million which is not helping!

Owlish · 09/03/2017 20:36

There just aren't enough cute puppy pics on this thread. Please remedy this immediately! Here is my my contribution.

Owlish fab to hear you've had a break through with toilet training - you get to that point where you think it's never going to happen don't you.

We have had a little break through in toilet training in that he all of a sudden worked out hr can go to the door to be let out. He does do it sometimes when he wants attention as he has realised walking to the door gets an instant reaction!

Only did first sleep downstairs last night a week later than planned as poor thing has had a stinking ear infection and needed to be watched for scratching. He settled ok and just one massive wee to clean up this morning.
He has gone from 5.4 to 7.1kg in a week!

Owlish · 10/03/2017 09:45

That's more like it! Keep 'em coming! Flibbertigibbet, Tilly's started doing that too, although she's pooed in the house this morning. Given that we rarely see her doing it, it seems she just wants privacy to do the business Grin

sotiredbutworthit · 10/03/2017 19:52

My two. Still puppies but big ones!!!!

SoTired, Goldens....always puppies at heart!

Jenny70 · 12/03/2017 01:17

Very quiet in here, puppies are either being very good or very bad, keeping us busy either way.

Cute puppy pic for day:

The Heffalump is exhausted after both puppy class and visit from friends yesterday.

Owlish · 12/03/2017 17:14

Tilly has been on her first Official Walk. We went to the beach. She got a bit damp and sandy, as the tide was in.

I've been at crufts today and left OH taking care of the pup! Couldn't resist buying him a few presents. We have our first puppy class tomorrow so will see how that goes!
